Okay /k/, probably a stupid question, but how practical would the HF Blade from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance or a vibrosword from Star Wars be? Basically a sword whose blade vibrates at a high frequency with the intention of increasing cutting effectiveness.
This is much more practical and is actually mil-spec.
I want a giant Gillette Fusion Proglide Power now.

OP here.
Not really sure what this is. It looks cool, but what is it, other than just a blade?

No, vibration would fuck up the cut. And the screws in the middle of the blade, too.
I don't know about OP but I'm going to take the guts from picrelated

And use it to make me a picrelated.

I know the screws would fuck it up. I was thinking more of the concept of the weapon. which you answered in the first part of your reply.
>No, vibration would fuck up the cut.

I really, really hope this was one of their april fools pranks.

Not that practical unless you're A) a cyborg super soldier, B) a Jedi, or C) only using them as a covert melee weapon.

implying you wouldn't use one of these to behead your adulterous wife in the street, Mohamed

In the form of a scalpel or small knife, it works really well and is used in some surgical setups and hobby knives. In the form of a weapon, I think the speed at which you are swinging in will overide any other factors. Basicly what ultrasound and sonic cutting is doing is replacing the slicing motion you do with your hand.
Build one, an ultrasonic transducer is cheap. I placed a thin Be rod against the blade and mounted it tightly, and secured a US transducer to it. It cuts tomato like none other. You have to go slow though, and watch the power code, cuz it cuts that too.
