Can you find a good modern reproduction of a winchester 1887 and a good barrel for skeet and trap?

Or would you be able to use modern loadings in an old 1887 if you could actually find one for sale?

I've always wanted one and think it would be a fun gun for taking to the shotgun club to have something different.

Not sure if the repro's are any good but they are affordable.

I think it's advised that you use pretty light loads in them.

My buddy has gone back and forth about selling his 12 gauge model. His grandpa owned it, then his dad, now him. He has considered getting rid of it because his dad was/is an alcoholic and beat his mom and him. His dad also took out a bunch of loans under my friends name so that really fucked my friend over and he has to file for bankruptcy. So yeah, hates his dad and I don't blame him. But he's never fired the thing so I can't comment on how awesome it shoots.

In only the orginal 1887s, or does that apply to the reproductions too?

Should be fine with AA low brass low recoil target loads.

Originals.

I need to find out more about the shotgun club's rounds. They load them theirselves and sell them for the cost it takes to make them, so it's like $2.50 for a box.

Are the Chiapa reproductions any good?

There are a ton of antique shotguns from the early 1900's originally designed for smokeless powder. I think you will have a much better time with this option. The 1887, as you know already, was designed for black powder and the reproductions often aren't true to form or feel very authentic. Look for a Winchester m1897 or a Stevens 520. Both are classic designs and very well built. I regularly shoot in the 20s in trap with my 1897 so despite being old they are still very capable.

not even light loads, Blackpowder loads only.

My Pw87 has never gave me any trouble. It has shot fine with any load ive put in it.Although you still want to really put some effort on the lever, cause you are the ejector.
Around 900 shells thru it as of now.

Are they still rolling block action?

>Winchester m1897 or a Stevens 520
Oh, they aren't lever action at all.
>>
>>29573881
I heard their action is kind of rough. Does it get smoother as you work it more and lube it?

Are they better than the Norinco ones?

Is it 4+1 or 5+1 magazine? I get a lot of conflicting answers for that question.

Would it be good for skeet and trap?
>>
>>29577220
The action was alright when i got it.But i still worked the fuck out of it for a bit and that smoothed it up.The tube holds 5+1 one the lifter and + 1 in the chamber.

Can you actually load seven shots like that practically? Where did you buy yours? Trying to find a good place online.

Would you do clay shooting with it?
>>
>>29577657

Can you work an 1887 like a single barrel shotgun?

Just open it up and push a round into the chamber, close it and shoot?
>>
>>29578306
Yea i dont see why not.It may be a little hard on the extractors tho.
>>
>>29570481
If you're interested in skeet and trap, you would be a lot happier with a double barreled over-and-under, a double barreled side-by-side, or a semi-automatic. You don't want to have to work an action in between shooting the first and second clays in skeet. Most people use an over-and-under, so a long-barreled side-by-side double-barreled gun is different and old school cool.
>>
>>29577220
Pretty sure the IAC and PW prefixes are actually all still just made by Norinco.
>>
>>29578591
Every factory made weapon from China is a Norinco. They are the marketing and sales company for the gov. and not just a factory.
>>
>>29578573
Is there any disadvantage to exposed hammers other than an extra step in reloading?
