How does a piston driven AR15 work? What does it offer compared to a cheaper gas one? Still new to the world of AR15s.

>Pistol driven
everytime you pull the trigger a miniture texan shoots the primer with a miniture colt. and sings star spangled banner.
>>29564799
Fucking iPhone autocorrect. Either way I'm sold if that's how it works.
>>29564818
you know what? that is how it works anon
.
Well fuck you too, /k/.
>>29564787
just get a DI ar
>>29564787
piston ARs suck
it replaces the gas tube with a short stroke piston that smacks the gas key and pushes the carrier back.
it also causes the carrier to tilt and fuck up the receiver and buffer tube. It also torques the locking lugs on the bolt and they might shear off from it.
It's a shitty fucking solution to a problem that doesn't exist. DGI or Direct Gas Impingement is the operating method of normal AR-15s and it is absolutely amazing.
DGI is better than GP or Gas Piston essentially.
>>29564787
The gas moves the piston, is in turn pushes the bolt carrier rearward to handle the extraction and ejection process, and then is moved pushed forward to the closed position by a spring just as with direct impingement.
>>29564787
This is a long stroke piston system, where the piston is attached to the bolt carrier and moves rearward with it.
>>29564787
The "benefit" is that the BCG and receiver are kept cleaner and can operate without getting crudded up. The tradeoff is increased complexity and risk of failure.
>>29566475
>kept cleaner
I still don't believe this fucking tripe.
>>29566475
Specifically, when the bolt carrier gets pushed back by the piston, it is off of the center of mass and causes the BCG to torque. This causes greater wear and tear than the original Stoner design.
>>29566503
Dude calm down it's not fucking your daughter. The fouling is moved from the BCG/Bolt to the gas block/ports. In modern systems that are kept on a maintenance schedule this doesn't actually mean much unless you're suppressing it.
>>29566782
what happens when my daughter wants a pretty dress and i spent it all on piston AR parts, huh?
>>29566782
>>29566847
don't want the daughter to get a date with jamar instead of Adam then get knocked up by trashy folks because shitty piston ar parts took all my money to make her look respectable.
It could very well be fucking my daughter.
>>29566475
>increased complexity and risk of failure
it's a fucking metal rod
>>29566874
t. dumbass that doesnt know anything
>>29566874
Its really not.
>>29566874
that has to slide and smack into something and then return to a gas block hole
>>29566893
>>29566915
you're right, I had no idea the piston systems for ARs were that shit
>>29566427
They should make a long stroke AR15
The piston, while costly, allows you to operate the rifle despite the hazard of memes from the Vietnam war.
>>29568304
No. They shouldn't because there's nothing wrong with Stoners orginal gas system.
>>29568317
I know but it would be cool anyways
>>29566782
>this doesn't actually mean much unless you're suppressing it.
it means a lot less if you do suppress it, the amount of gas going into the receiver through the barrel is a hell of a lot more than the gas tube.
>>29568304
Primary Weapon systems makes them.
