I have to move all my crap to my office so I can have a "real" guest bedroom... Y'all stocked up for the election rush? I need to find some more Varget and 308 projectiles...
Varget is in plentiful supply around me. 4350 is hard to find, H4350 is impossible.
308 pills all over the place.
6.5 and creedmoor brass.... Impossible.

Fuggin cabelas has all their hodgdon powder on sale but doesn't have any varget in stock... I probably should have just bought a bunch of Imr4064...
fuck no, all i got is a pound of IMR4895 and a pound of autocomp, which i actually quite like. seems to work real nice in my .44.
need stuff for .308 now.
I reloaded for the first time, 45 and .380. I'm going to shoot them tomorrow.

I really need to get my hands on some more Varget... I've only got 1lb left.
Speaking of Varget, anyone have any experience with Varget and 77gr SMKs? I loaded some up the other day and I was surprised how quickly that combo becomes a compressed load. No pressure issues whatsoever, but hearing that crunch is always weird when working up a new load.

there is not panic.
there was after boston as reloaders though the feds would come down on powder sales. but that didnt happen.
now there is just a run on some powders because the competition seasons are starting.
h4350 is the gold standard for 6.5 creedmoor ( using 140gn bullets) so it has been wiped out.
varget is the goto for 556 in 62gn+ and a lot of 308 loads.
h110 is popular for 300blk.

i assume you are loading to 2.260 COL
in varget with the 77gr. limit your load to 23.8
other powders that work well with 77gr smk are:
TAC ( upto 24gr ) 2750fps at 2.260
AA2520
N540
N140
AA2230
RE15

TAC and a 77gr SMK is the military MK262 load.
the plus side is that TAC is $8-10 less than Varget

Sierra's manual lists the max load at 23.9, so I'll load up to that and watch for pressure... Most of that shit is usually conservative but I've heard of weird things happening with Varget and 77gr SMKs...
So neither of you have had any specific load work with Varget and 77gr SMKs? I've seen so many people post great results I can't help but see what it can do.
I'd like to try some RL15 but I haven't seen any in a while.

I hvae a load that i used with 77tmk and varget.
It was 23.8gr with cci 400 primer,
But i have since swiched to TAC and run it at 24.1 gr.

Get an RCBS or Hornady single stage kit.
It will have the press, powder measure, scales, miscellaneous parts. Then grab a reloading manual.
Next get the dies and shell holders for each caliber.
Read your manual for loads
Then buy your powder, primers, bullets to match your manual.
Initial investment with rcbs or hornady will be around $600
If you go with Lee it will be less
I use a hornady 75gr bthp with 24.1gr TAC to make 2785fps out of an 18" barrel with pretty good accuracy... Here it's only like $4 cheaper per pound and much less available.

Yeah, varget and 77s run hot are a compressed load. New varget is faster than old varget, so the 24.5gr max 77gr load is a no go, back down to 23.5 and work up to 24. Still crunchy crunchy.
4895 performed as well as varget for me in .223, but IMR4895 is long stick and throws like crap (so does varget) so I shoot 8208 or H4895.

Not the guy you were responding to but I as well as a friend are getting into reloading for 300 blackout. I have the Lyman AR reloading manual as well as Hodgedon's website bookmarked for reloading data but do you know of any more sources for 300 blackout load data?
