It really only works with ARs because the handguard is so small and the weapon is light, but if you had to carry a larger rifle all day or even m-16 all day you start to use more bone support when using it, which is why you'll see grunts using mag well and shit. No. C-Clamp is especially good on front heavy guns. Magwell grip is good for tight quarters. Magwell is easier to do for longer periods of time.

Pick any object hanging on your wall, then extend your arm out and point to it. That's basically what c-clamping does, and it's intuitively easier to get on target faster since humans are excellent at pointing their arms towards things.
It is tiring, and very few guns allow you to do it, but those don't really matter in competition shooting.
