I'm trying to decide between buying a VZ 58 or a AR-15. The VZ seems kind of outdated, but I love the fact that it's non restricted and ammo is cheap. The AR-15 is my favorite rifle, but I personally don't see the point of buying a semi auto if you can't run around and have fun with it. Can anyone that has owned either help me out?
>>
>>29547090
Outdated how? Vz58 is fun and simple to use. If you get the CSA model it is pre-tapped for a scope rail+mount so you can slap a scope or RDS on top.

Unless you really, really, really want to attach whole bunch of stuff to your gun the vz58 will be fine.

Note it will never fill the desire in your heart for an AR-15. Still haven't bought one...
>>
>>29546899
Yeah the names are confusing.
The ARX-100 5.56 is the civie version of the ARX-160 select fire 5.56 and the ARX-160 22LR is a military trainer so they kept the 160 designation.

My vz58 is my favourite owned rifle. I couldn't care any less about some dumb stress tests people do like shoveling mud into the rifle and being surprised it doesn't fire.

I've never had a misfire on mine and the sidemount is outstandingly high tolerance. I can take my comp off and mount it back on without having to worry about my zero.

Remember that the biggest pro to the rifle is that it is non restricted so you don't have to shit your pants if you meet someone in the woods while carrying it.
>>
>>29547179
Outdated mostly in terms of ergonomics, or it least it seems that way. The safety switch is weird, the charging handle is on the right side, there's no bolt release (I know you can get a kit). All your options for mounting optics have some kind of compromise to them. They either don't hold zero, don't co witness, necessitate removal every time the gun is cleaned, some combination of. Changing the stock to be inline with the barrel makes it awkward to use irons. I know a lot of this stuff is nitpicky, I tend to read too much and over analyze all my purchases.
>>
>>29547313
There's nothing wrong with being picky about your purchases.
You have to understand that our options are very limited so we have to deal with the inconveniences.

You're correct, I have to take the side mount off to get the cover off my vz58 but thankfully it holds zero when I put it back after cleaning.

That's very true. The fact that it's a very reasonably priced non restricted rifle is such a plus I think I'll probably go for it.

That's gorgeous. Another problem I have with the VZ 58 is that I'd feel bad for when I inevitably put a bunch of tactical shit on it. It's a a beautiful rifle.

I plan on heading to jasper this summer but don't drive, what's the legality of transporting a rifle or two in a duffel bag with my other stuff on a bus? I don't really want to be carrying rifle cases with me on a greyhound bus.
>>
>>29547931
Remove the bolt and lock it up and you should be good I think? go above and beyond the call of the transportation laws just to cover your own ass...
>>
>>29547954
The law says it's illegal to conceal a firearm, does that mean I should open carry?
>>
>>29547931
You are not allowed to bring firearms on a greyhound. A quick Google search shows a PDF that clearly states this.
>>
>>29548059

>>
>>29548141
You can bring firearms to national parks as long as it's locked and unloaded in your car or something similar. It says so in that link. National Parks generally have a "no firearms" policy but it doesn't hold any water if you have it out of sight.
>>
>>29549538
I plan on carrying while hiking for animal defense and target shooting.
>>
>>29549553
You'll definitely have some issues with conservation officers. They might think that you are poaching if you don't have a hunting license on you. It also really depends on your location and province.

For target shooting on crown land you obviously won't have much trouble if you just carry it in a soft case and/or a car. I've been stopped by cops carrying a long gun in a case for the purpose of target shooting and all they asked was my PAL. They didn't even check the gun and serial number despite the fact that I was walking around in the bush with it. However, if I was openly carrying it they would have questioned if I was hunting.

Bear mace is always a viable option for animal defense. You'll probably prefer to use guns though because ammo is cheaper than a 40-50 dollar mace not to mention how deadly force speaks "louder" than a minor inconvenience.

Honestly, when it comes to carrying a firearm for wilderness protection without being called a poacher it is really a blurry line. A random pussy lefty hiker might just call the conservation service on you for carrying a gun if they think you are killing those poor innocent non-slaughterhouse animals illegally and then you'll have your hands full. I live in BC and I've seen uuh wait no I mean I heard that a lot of people illegally carry here. I've never seen anything like that at all of course. I don't recommend doing this. The risk of getting caught is bigger than the risk of a bear rekking you.

tl:dr always carry bear mace and a large knife in the bush. It is safer to have a hunting license on you when you are carrying non-res while hiking in crown land.
>>
>>29549665
I'll be in a forest land use are in the kootenay region, as far as I'm aware youre allowed to carry a gun. Not that I give a fuck, if I'm heading into the mountains by myself I'm carrying a rifle regardless of what anyone says, itd be uncanadian to not have a firearm in the wilderness.
>>
>>29549732
Just don't walk into the Kootenay National Park or any national park for that matter. You'll definitely be charged. Otherwise, what you're doing shouldn't be illegal. Have fun and bring booze.

Most (all?) forms of public transportation ban firearms, knives, etc. except airlines when they are checked and secured below deck. I think it is just a way of fucking with poor people who want to legally transport their guns.

Sorry, linked to wrong post. Good to know that they don't discriminate against us unlike Toronto's TTC. Do keep ammo & guns out of sight in a case though, so that they don't pull any "offenses against public order" BS.
>>
>>29550423
Just because they don't say anything about it, doesn't mean they won't call the police and press charges. It's not like ammo can do anything without a gun but skytrain police can freak out.

I feel it's more of a "don't ask, don't tell" kind of policy. They won't bother you as long as you don't show it off. Regardless, bringing long guns will most likely get you in trouble because of how obvious it is. Ammunition seems kinda sketchy.

I'm looking for a .22

A Ruger 10/22
the RIA 10/22 clone
or a Norinco JW25A

Any recommendations?
>>
>>29550975
The Ruger 10/22, but bear in mind that finding ammo isn't always going to be an enjoyable experience. They're usually either sold out or available above ideal price.

Ideal price for .22 ammunition is below 7 cents per round. Unfortunately, the best you'll find these days is 9-13 cents per round.
>>
>>29550975
I would stick with the Ruger one. You aren't saving money on a gun that cheap, and the original is already plenty good with lots of room to improve.
>>
>>29551033
It's still going to be the cheapest ammo. Also, 22lr semi auto rifles are non-restricted without a magazine capacity limit so you can go pew pew pew a little bit longer.
>>29550975
The Marlin 60 is also good if you don't mind a tube magazine. I own a Savage 64f that I bought for 170 dollars. The teardown is a pain but honestly the rifle performs fine.
>>

So I know that according to Canadian law, it is highly illegal to cut a barrel down to a certain length.

But what if your barrel got shortened by accident? Like, if you used faulty ammunition that blew up your barrel?

I remember that post. The T97s don't normally have issues with failing like that. That particular instance;
>Guy buys third-hand T97
-Complains rifle makes a "twang" noise (obviously the recoil spring right by your ear)
-Using factory reloads (Wartak ammo)
-Bolt won't ride all the way forward, tried multiple times
-"disassembles" gun, tries a new mag of Wartak, still the same issue
-Switches to Federal, bolt rides forward properly
-Rifle asplodes next shot

I'm no expert, but trying to force a gun to function seems like a bad idea.

You can get a $100 magwell adapter for the Vz 58 that will let you load 10 round XCR pistol magazines. The aftermarket from Zahal isn't bad either. On top of all this, it's non-restricted. For day to day plinking, the Vz 58 wins hands down.

My thoughts are that the AR-15 is only worth buying if you're going to participate in some sort of target shooting competition. Otherwise the process is more of a pain in the ass than it needs to be.

How does gun ownership work if you live in an RV?

Are the guns legally being transported or in storage if in a safe mounted to your RV wall? When the vehicle is moving, I would assume it's transport. When the vehicle is parked, I am unsure. If the vehicle was parked and had a killswitch activated, I wonder if it might be storage.

In Canada, a man's home is his castle, yes? If you live in an RV, then wouldn't it have the same protections as a home?

If you're using W7, W8, or W10 you can open the "snipping tool" which is a more precise screen cap tool.

Crossing my fingers.

Well right now I'm shopping around for everything but the lower receiver because I won't have a membership any time soon but once I do I'd complete it so you might as well just put it up on CGN.

That feeling when you out shoot fudds using scoped hunting rifles and a guy using an ar with an acog with your pu sniper and sks. Ar dick would get like 5-6 out of 10 and I'd get 5/5 every time with my sks even double tapping a couple times. Heard the fudds talking about sks's after.

BD44's are no longer being brought in and were $3k last time

H&K UMP (and real G36) are no longer available to civilians, USC has replaced it for civies

FG42 clones cost $10k and just don't fucking work at all (Only 10 were brought in)

Type 97 Sniper Were also limited batch Tact Imports brought them in and they were also around $3k

and on a side note Masterkey's even when non restricted length are classed as restricted when attached to an AR-15. Don't ask me why it just is.

Anyone know of anyone selling some pump shotguns on the cheap?

I got a buddy who just got his PAL and everything I am seeing is $300-400 for a Mossberg or Remington.
>>
>>29562492
I won't claim to be knowledgeable on the subject, but from my understanding, grenade launchers are legal, it's just the grenades themselves that are illegal.
>>
>>29563966
That's typically how it goes, yes.

Those are generally considered cheap for pump-actions. Any cheaper, and you tread into break-action territory.

Grenade launchers are classed as smooth bore manual firearms (Think single shot shotguns.) Although explosives are regulated through MNR.

WA2000's are importable if you can find one i've heard reference to at least 2 in private collections here.

Would love to launch improvised dildos at shit

>WA2000's are importable if you can find one i've heard reference to at least 2 in private collections here.

There was a criminal in BC who got caught with one in addition to other contraband and it was destined to be smelted, but the cops realized this and donated it to a local club.

Explosive ammo is illegal, but if you make FMJ or shotshell type ammo then it's fine to shoot.

The explosive ones, yes.

The cheeto rounds are fine, and fun to shoot.

I sold my CZ-858 and vz-58s in favour of AR-15s. Infinitely better rifles. If I want to fuck about in the bush I'll just take an SKS.

No, they made 178 total. It was just to show that they are in Canada. Technically attainable, it's just not really feasible to do so.

I'm a Canuck who's just about to send in his PAL / RPAL and wanted to clarify a few things.

I only have to send in the 80 dollars for both of them correct ?

Also.. People online are talking about a special envelope they got from their instructor.
I didn't get one , that won't be an issue will it ?
>>
>>29569010
If you're applying for both, then it's just the cost of the RPAL application, so yeah, $80. You don't need a special envelope, some instructors give out little packages of the forms and pre-addressed envelopes to make applying easier.
>Once they charge you, make sure you call them once a week, at least, until it's issued. Don't be rude, just politely ask the status of it.
>>
>>29569060
What do you mean when you say they charge me ?
I was just going to get an 80 note from the bank
>>
>>29569245
Most people pay by check or credit card so there is a notification of when the funds are transfer. Generally this means your application is finished its waiting period and is being processed.

>>
>>29572666
Depends. Call them again tomorrow and ask to be transferred to them to check on it, or otherwise find the Ontario CFO's number and call directly. I applied for my RPAL in Quebec and the RCMP transferred to their CFO so when I called them, the day after they received my application, all my references got called.
>>
>>29572666
>transferred it to the CFO for final approval
>Ontario
I'm so sorry to hear that.

The only good CFOs are in BC and Alberta. Other provinces suck with CFOs, I'm afraid.

18 y/o having to Re apply for his PAL here. Am I better off Taking the RPAL course before I re apply and then buying an AR 15 or am I better off saving up for a Vz. 58 or a different .223 rifle?
Is it true that when you have an RPAL that the cops can just show up at your house to see if your guns are stored properly?
>>
>>29576455
Whoops, I guess I'm applying for one for the first time but I had my minor's license up until it expired on my birthday a few months ago.
>>
>>29576306
What's got you so worked up anon?
>>
>>29576455
>Is it true that when you have an RPAL that the cops can just show up at your house to see if your guns are stored properly?
Not true.

Even PAL holders without a Restricted endorsement can be subject to this type of visit.

The chances of it happening increase if at least one of these apply to you:
>you're selling firearms as a business (ie. your gun store can be paid a visit) or in a business-like manner (ie. you've been selling very frequently on CGN)
>you own more than 10 firearms
>you're registered as a Collector
>>
>>29576455
If you only ever intend on using the rifle as nothing but a range toy, get the AR-15.

Get a non-restricted .223 if you want to dick around with it innawoods.
>>
>>29576656
The fact that they're allowed to do it under any circumstances is really concerning honestly, like random searches is some pedophile treatment shit.
>>
>>29576222
>not realizing rivets accidentally go missing all the time

>>29576656
I don't think I'll ever fit the bill for any of those, Thanks for shedding some light on that for me.

>>29576673
The only decent range near me is Silverdale apparently, and that's an hour's drive out. Shooting my SKS is fun, but I don't think it's worth the drive.

Are there any decent .223 rifles that go for ~< $1000, even used? Are there some I should just steer clear of?
>>
>>29576758
It's not like they can just come in willy-nilly and do as they please.

They still have to give you advance notice.

Sun News actually covered a story where this exact shit happened. Some college guy who sold AR parts through CGN as a hobby actually got a letter from the RCMP saying that they were basically tracking his posts and wanted to search his home.

>tfw the whole thing was recorded
>tfw they didn't shoot his dog
So I guess that's one plus.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltncziv8AzQ

To be fair, most of this shit happens in the east. This rarely happens in the west.
>>
>>29551111

>>
>>29576812
>Not realizing the RCMP don't care and will charge you
>>
>>29576844

The best youre going to get at the $1000 range is probably the VZ or CZ
Otherwise if you want to roll the dice, theres the keltec su16 and Norinco T97. They're ok but some have their issues.
>>
>>29576812

They don't care in the slightest.
Even if it was a legitimate accident, they'll charge you anyways
>>
>>29576812
>Thinking that'll protect you from the RCMP.
>>
>>29553948
Putting a short barrel on a gun that has already had a long barrel is always a no-go.. Buuuut, if it came from the manufacturer with a short barrel or no barrel initially (and it isn't both semi-auto & centerfire), then it's cool. Examples include the Grizzly Arms (Rem870 clone) from Canada Ammo, the 14" Tactical Benelli Supernova from Cabelas, stuff from Corwin Arms. List goes on and on.

If you want something specific with a short barrel, order the receiver and barrel separately, KEEP THE MOTHERFUCKING RECEIPTS, and assemble it yourself.
>>
>>29576862
>They give you the courtesy of telling your their gonna tear apart your house because they don't like you in advanced and there's nothing you can do about it
That really doesn't make it any better
>>
>>29559905
Honestly, this question has come up before and I can't remember if there was a case that dealt with it or not. Maybe someone else will know.
>>
>>29577000
If your lucky enough to be stopped by fish and game you might get away with it by saying "what mag?" Worked for me, but then again we had a bunch of metal airsoft pistols and body armor so that probably threw him off
>>
>>29564164
The explosives act may have changed that when they completely revamped the regs in February 2014. I remember everything over .75 caliber no longer being classified as a small arms cartridge. This would also include 10 gauge shotshells so I don't know.
>>
>>29576758
There were a lot of questions raised regarding them circumventing due process for searches but I don't know if a court case has come up that challenges it yet.
>>
>>29577100
I'd assume that would only cover explosive ammo. Non-explosive ammo would be unaffected by that.
>>
>>29576812
>Not realizing legal gun owners dogs go missing all the time

>>29577100

ATRS is playing with the idea of a 20mm rifle
Pretty sure as long as it isnt explosive, its A OK
