I have worked with Cav and Infantry. Cav has a few skills taught in training that the Infantry picks up at their unit. Honestly they are totally interchangable.
Hence in Iraq, Cav was given battle space to control and conducted patrols in it. They did Cav it up a bit by leaving LPs all over, but when I was sent to work for an Infantry unit I didnt notice they were different in any way.

Because they don't fill any real role that infantry can't do. My old scout platoon was almost all infantry, Stryker units used to be MTOEd Infantry for their scout platoons, LRS units are all infantry, etc. what the fuck is the point of an MOS that really doesn't fit into anywhere? It would be one thing if they as a whole filled all of these Recon slots all over the army, but they don't, so they are pointless.

I have a close friend who was Infantry in Afghanistan (2011-12) and according to him all they did was sit in their humvees, and the second they came into contact they left the area. He hates them because they always say "WE ARE BASICALLY INFANTRY". No clue if this is unique to his experiences though.
