Not Combat Boots. "Combat Boots" are shit designed for extreme durability, not user comfort. The only people wearing "combat boots" are people forced to, mall goths, and mall ninjas.

Get yourself a pair of Oboz Wind River or Salomon Quest 4D II GTX

If you like those shitty boots like in your pic OP you must hate your feet really badly or you want them for looks

LOWA Zephyrs or these >>29540610

It was just a quick pic for the thread. And maybe "combat" wasn't the correct word. I just want a comfy boot that can take a beating. As mine are beginning to givevout :(

Does anyone know if the Adidas GSG-9 Desert boots are any good?
>>
>>29540696
I'd recommend Asolo Fugitives. I've had a pair for a few years and they are comfy and durable as fuck. Only real complaint is that the laces they come with can't hold a knot for shit and come untied all the god damned time.

I dip the laces in Parafin wax to fix that
>>
For SHTF, would it be recommended to have something like a cowboy boot? I am thinking that the lack of any moving parts and the durability of it would make it perfect for a situation where a replacement or repair may not be possible.
>>
Rocks S2V ftw
I'm a work/cowboy boot salesman after the military and its the best footwear I've ever worn

Yes, clearly. Why would you think that because I don't want someone (OP) to buy a shitty pair of boots I'm going to recommend an equally shitty pair of boots? Did I hurt your feelings? Is calling me a nigger by proxy make you feel like a big internet badass?
>>
>>29541027
actually I wear a pair of Timberland steel toe work boots with anti fatigue soles at my job. Best money I ever spent on a pair of boots.
>>
>>29541048

what's wrong with the Lowas? they're not the most heavy duty boots in the world, but they're a solid, lightweight hiking boots. and they're legitimately military boots now that they come in 8".

some of us wear combat boots because we're in the military, after all.

He may mean the speed lace full leather canvas combat boots, They look like cocoran jump boots but with a speedlace system, cushioned top, different full rubber sole, also no rigged toe cap.
>>
>>29542373
I have these bates combat hikers that look like the danner ones and they do kinda suck. I apparently have the winter ones so it has that goretex lining in them, comfy at first but a bitch after 8 hours of work, I prefer

>>29542231

>>
>>29542373

I don't know why anyone would come to /k/ for boot advice. All you've got here are unathletic gearqueers who don't actualy use them, just pose for pictures and infantrymen who wear nothing but issued crap and this it's great because dah gumbent.
>>
>>29542398
I use mine, I have 3 pairs of jungle boots, one repro ww2 paratrooper boots, bates mountain hikers and desert panama sole jungle boots. i use all of them hell i even polish the black/olive jungles and paratrooper boots.
>>
>>29542418

The fact that you're okay with owning a boot you need to polish, or that you think it's a good thing to have zero breathability tells me you have no idea what you're talking about. All leather, or even half-leather boots have been out for a long time and for good reason.

Again, almost no one on here is a serious hiker, they just select for aesthetic reasons. People would be much better on /out/
>>
>>29542442
Well for mine, I use for my job which is a hardware/warehouse store and I would use them for hiking, been wearing jungle boots for years and my feet are used to them. Also Altama got bought out by a SWAT boot company and they're remaking all the jungle boots, some in coyote tan too, just go to altama.com if you are interested. Im planning on buying more jungle boots
>>
>>29542477
do their new jungle boots still have a simply glued on sole?

the uppers are top notch, but my 2 pairs I had to reglue the heel every couple of months
>>
>>29542510
Yeah i believe the new ones that are being made are glued on, the Vietnam ones I have are stitched on. Goddamn that coyote jungle boot looks good. But yeah I asked them and said the earliest the olive/black ones or some of their models will come out around this July

Get some saddle soap, apply that, wait a while like about a day after, then apply Kiwi shoe polish, you should be fine. I would recommend new insoles, maybe memory foam ones. Because when you do this regularly, they could last a while

God tier comfort after I sized down and broke them in. My solomans didnt even feel the same.
They are now my dailies. Salomans for hiking, these for pretty much everything else.
>>
>>29542090
Boots in theory will provide better all round protection for your feet, are better suited for long distance and perhaps most pertinently will last longer.

They are far from ideal but they provide a hard-wearing, waterproof shoe which will protect you from most things you'll encounter in a SHTF scenario.
>>
>>29542617
Diet coke is better than regular coke for mixed drinks. This is an opinion, although a widely accepted one.

These are probably the most popular non-issued boots used in the Canadian Army. Pretty reasonable price too, just remember you want boots that are light and comfortable not 'combat boots' meant to last 50 years.

Aren't boots supposed to wreak havoc on your ankles?
>>
>>29540907
It means you don't know enough about what you're about to throw your money away on and you will severely injure yourself at the same time.
>>
>>29548313
Is it true that those old army boots fit like a pair of Chuck Taylors?
>>
>>29548350
No, boots help prevent you from rolling your ankles and spraining/breaking them.

Only drawback is that you use those muscles less, supposedly, and those muscles get weak, but I don't believe it cos I've worn boots for years.
>>
Op has returned from my local REI and after trying the Soloman quest and the lowa zephyrs, I'm going with the zephyrs because they just feel like heaven on my feet :D

issued 2 pair of speed laced boots in basic, was fortunate that i got these instead of the chevron tread boots that half of the recruits received (those wore out in no time). the lug pattern sucks on slick surfaces but is superior in mud. great boot.
