I'd recommend Asolo Fugitives. I've had a pair for a few years and they are comfy and durable as fuck. Only real complaint is that the laces they come with can't hold a knot for shit and come untied all the god damned time.
I dip the laces in Parafin wax to fix that
For SHTF, would it be recommended to have something like a cowboy boot? I am thinking that the lack of any moving parts and the durability of it would make it perfect for a situation where a replacement or repair may not be possible.

1980s USGI boots are nice, keep them oiled and polished and they'll take care of you. The GI insoles are fine if you wear thick socks too.

Also Altama got bought out by a SWAT boot company and they're remaking all the jungle boots, some in coyote tan too, just go to altama.com if you are interested. Get some saddle soap, apply that, wait a while like about a day after, then apply Kiwi shoe polish, you should be fine. I would recommend new insoles, maybe memory foam ones. Because when you do this regularly, they could last a while

Boots in theory will provide better all round protection for your feet, are better suited for long distance and perhaps most pertinently will last longer.
They are far from ideal but they provide a hard-wearing, waterproof shoe which will protect you from most things you'll encounter in a SHTF scenario.

These are probably the most popular non-issued boots used in the Canadian Army. Pretty reasonable price too, just remember you want boots that are light and comfortable not 'combat boots' meant to last 50 years.

No, boots help prevent you from rolling your ankles and spraining/breaking them.
Only drawback is that you use those muscles less, supposedly, and those muscles get weak, but I don't believe it cos I've worn boots for years.
Op has returned from my local REI and after trying the Soloman quest and the lowa zephyrs, I'm going with the zephyrs because they just feel like heaven on my feet :D
