Hello /k/, was thinking of picking up one of these pic related. For CC and home defense. Own a few Glocks (19G4,26G4) and was thinking of adding a .45 to the slowly growing collection. I'm ditching my first handgun, used XD45 Compact, and needing to replace the .45 for my bedside gun. Thoughts? Other suggestions.

I get penetration adequate to CNS disruption out of 9mm with the added benefit of a much more controllable gun, allowing for more rapid placement of an increased number of rounds. That counts orders of magnitude more than the razor-thin bumps in terminal ballistics you see with service cartridge cock-swinging. It's also cheaper, ergo I can practice more which improves the speed and accuracy of my shot placement.
Again, if you like 10mm, have at it. However, and as I've said before, the objectively and empirically sound choice for SD is 9mm.

If yes, your cartridge has everything it needs to kill someone. The rest is OVERWHELMINGLY on you to put as many rounds as you can where they need to be and as fast as you can. 10mm, or .40, or .357 makes this harder. I don't care if you can handle the recoil of it, that just means you would be even better with a 9mm. Again, that round has everything you need to kill someone.

Fair enough, follow up shots are an important factor, and it will be easier with round that generates less recoil, but in many situations the first shot could be the most important, also if you train with your firearm and are familiar with the recoil impulse it generates there is no reason you shouldn't be able to make follow up shots as fast as you need to.
My main point to OP was and is, if you don't mind the kick of a .45 why not have a look at 10mm?

I have one and I like it for CC. I carry it in pic related at 4-5 IWB and it's comfortable sitting/standing and driving.
Only (minor) complaint I could address is if you use mags like in my pic that have the extension, they have a tendency to pinch your pinky while firing. Other than that I'd recommend it.

Talk to me when 9mm can send a 180gr bullet 1500+ FPS (comparable to some .41 magnum loads)
If your going with a subcompact then 9mm is certainly the way to go, if your going for a full size HD or duty gun with magnum level performance than 10mm runs circles around your basic bitch round.

The 30SF is just a tad bit thinner grip.
I have below average hands (manlet) and its pretty neato. Then again, the regular 30 wasn't really THAT much more thicker.
Get it if you are able to and it doesn't have any additional cost over the regular 30. Or if you really need the thinner grip.
Also, note that the 30S is basically the SF frame + the thinner slide whereas the 30SF is just the thinner frame + regular fatfuck 30 slide.

also, to add. The 30 shoots real nice. The recoil is more a push than muzzle flip. The P-01 on the other hand, is a bit more temperamental in it's recoil. Then again I shoot a lot of +p on the P-01.
