Some folks call it a sling blade
Because while it only rolls a crit on a natural 20 and has the lowest damage of all the two handed weapons, the x4 critical is insane. He probably has keen enchantment on there and took improved critical as a feat to augment his DPS.

This figures comes from the celtic "Ankou" from french britanny. He is related to the celtic god sucellos, the irish ones Ollathair, or Dagda, who are forces of life and death, giving or taking lives with their weapons, mallet or mace. The Ankou is a pan-brittanic figure for this function. Caleled Anghau in british whales or Ankow in english Cornwalls.
Later, his function was reduced to death only.
He is not death himself but one of its servants. His role is to gather the souls of those recently dead in his cart.
His scythe, however, is of a particular kind : the edge isn't in the interior but on the exterior of the blade. He doesn't brings the scythe back to him like a grain reaper would, but throws it in front of him.
This figure survived christianisation and kept being a part of local mythology for centuries while being accepted by the local christians. He can be found on some churches in french Britanny for example.
It is said every last person to die each year, in a specific catholic parish, becomes the Ankou for that year in that specific parish. So there are lots of potential Ankou. In fact, everyone could become the Ankou.
The Ankou is a tall, very thin old man with long white hairs and a curved back. He has no eyes, only two dark orbits.
