What is the best 5.56 load for an 11.5" ar-15 sbr/pistol?

M855
62gr

You are welcome for the sage advice of an army infantryman of 10 years.

So don't listen to this guy.

OP, stick with M855 and be happy for the rest of your life.
>>
>>29525667
Any particular reason why?
>>
>>29525667
But I was an infantard for 6 years.

>>29525715
He has no idea, he just knows what M855 is and thinks it's the best.

10.5" barrel here

M855 is the best by far (besides special snowflake loads) that I've put through it
>>
>>29525570
Realistically it depends on the twist rate and what you mean by "best".

Most accurate, most powerful, longest range etc. (Probably not the latter on an 11 inch ar build) In theory, heavier grain will be your friend as long as you have a 1:9 or higher twist rate.
>>
>>29525768
Should say I'm working with 1:7

Would you stop posting this garbage infographic someone whipped up? The diagram for 1:7 is WAY off and the "red/yellow/green" is pointless and doesn't help at all.
>>
>>29525830
Tighter twist, heavier rounds.
The principle is there.
>>
>>29525853
And is also self-explanatory to anyone actually dabbling in the AR platform. The coloring is inaccurate and vague is what I'm getting at niggy.

25gr H335 under 55gr FMJ.
Winchester SRP, federal brass.

Good blasting ammo, easy to make.

Mass produce. Call it a day.
>>
>>29525570
>>29525601
For target shooting maybe. For shooting khat-chewing Somali militiamen, no
>>
Am i being trolled? Anything but 55 grain at 3000 fps is worthless. Get a 20 inch, fag.
>>
Not even going to bother with the mk262 morons anymore.

50gr TSX with the black hills exclusive loading is the best. I personally chose 62gr TSX which performs great too.
>>
>>29526102
kill yourself thanks
>>
>>29526107
>I personally chose 62gr
Gee, like the very first post suggested.
>>
If using a short-barreled weapon AND your rifle can stabilize them (1:9 minimum stwist rate):
70 gr Barnes TSX/TAC-X
75 gr Swift Scirroco
75 gr Hornady OTM
77 gr Nosler OTM
77 gr Sierra SMK

If using a short-barreled weapon AND your rifle can't stabilize the heavy 70+ grain bullets:
62 gr Federal bonded JSP Tactical (LE223T3)
55 gr Federal bonded JSP load (LE223T1 or P223T2)
60 gr Nosler Partition JSP
Barnes 55 gr TSX/TAC-X
>>
Just as an aside: I have a 16" 1/9 that performs much better with 62gr or 64gr then any 55gr. Any reason that might be?
>>
>>29525570
SOST or anything heavy

I bet you'd do well using SS109. Which is to say, I totally agree with everyone suggesting M855.
>>
>>29528104
Only one samefag is suggesting the shitty m855 you need a heavier 69+ grain bullet for it.
>>
I ran 62gr M855 through a 11.5 1:7 barrel all the time. pretty accurate.
>>
>>29527284
Could be twist, could be something specific to your barrel and the harmonics. Is it free-floated or running on a normal handguard?

Define "much better" cuz you got me curious. Is it like a shift from 5 MOA to 1 MOA or are we talking fractions of inches?
>>
>>29525570
I have a 13.7 in barrel with a 1/8 twist. It like the 62gr SS109 I feed it pretty well. From what little I know on optimum bullet weight to barrel length ratio twist rate has a lot to do with it too. 1/7 likes light grain bullets and 1/9 likes the heavier stuff.
>>
>>29529469
>1/7 likes light grain bullets and 1/9 likes the heavier stuff.
derp
reverse that
>>
>>29525768
10.5" 1:7 here. I kinda stocked up on M193 for my carbine (also 1:7).

What else should I get off I want optimal ballistics out of the 10.5 but also something I could use in the carbine? M855? MK 262?
>>
>>29529581
it's 10.5". what are you trying to do with it? pit the ace at 1000yrds?
>>
>>29525570
whatever it eats best. 1/7 twist is a MUST for a barrel that short. xm193 may not stabilize good enough, m855 probably would. 77gr otm might, but shits $1/shot. Maybe try some TAP rounds.

>>29529581
>What else should I get off I want optimal ballistics out of the 10.5
get an 11.5 like you should of.
>literally nerfing yourself 200fps for 1" of length.
>>
>>29525768
Piggybacking:

What are the differences in ballistics between a 10.5 and a 16"? Interested primarily in trajectories and zeroing

>>29529662
Dude that's why I have a carbine. I just want whatever will stabilize best
>>
>>29529736
optimal range for a shorty is about 200m. MAYBE 300m if you really want to try. so, use whatever that isn't el-cheapo tula-esc shit. m193, m855, 77gr black hills, etc. when you're trying to get the tightest group in a shorty, you're basically splitting hairs. carbines and full lengths really utilize the cartridge to it's full capability.

but, that's my opinion.

my rec.? just buy a box each of what you can find at your local supplier and shoot it to see what YOU like best. if you're into the whole ballistic gelatin thing, then shoot it and post vids=profit.

The difference between 10.5 and 11.5 is negligible.
>>
>>29531117
About 100 fps. Important if fragmentation is required. Which is at the least desirable in 5.56
