I'm diagnosed bipolar, which doesn't technically disqualify me from carrying a gun in Indiana. However, during the application process they ask you if you've ever sought any kind of psychological treatment, which I have. If you answer yes to that question, they require a vague amount of paperwork to be submitted via mail to the government from your doctor that basically says "yeah this guy is all good to carry a gun."
Which obviously almost no doctor would do because they don't want to be on the hook legally if their patient DOES do something reckless with a gun.
So even though I am completely stable and medicated and was never any kind of violent when I wasn't, and even though I can buy guns and I own several, and even though technically there is no legal reason I can't get a permit... I will probably never be able to carry.
