Does anyone here own a lever-action rifle? How do you like them compared to bolt action or semi-auto? Are there any obvious lemons besides pre-2015 Marlins?

I'm considering one in 30-30 myself. It seems like a decent round for plinking and shooting whitetail.
>>
I'd take a .243 over 30-30 any day of the week tbqh. Lever actions are neat though
>>
>>29488919
Yeah, but who sells lever-action .243? Remington and Marlin don't appear to.
>>
There is literally a thread up of this on the front page
Fucking kill yourself
>>
>>29488945
Did you reply to the wrong thread? There's no other thread on this topic in the catalog when I look.

I've got three. Winchesters 1873, 1886, and 1892, the last a Browning brand.
very fun to shoot
faster to cycle than bolt action but slower than semi auto
30-30 is still popular for deer but pricey for plinking
>>
>>29488932
browning
>>
>>29488976
Is there a better round for plinking? Sorry for the n00b questions, but google is failing me. The only lever gun pages I can find are durrhunters pretending to be cowboys, or old men buying $3/round .45-70 monsters and pretending they'll hunt bears with them.
>>
>>29488965
>>29478413

>>29488994
.22 obviously.
.357 magnum, which can also shoot .38 special
.45 Colt and .44 magnum are also cheaper than 30-30
>>
>>29489003
Fuck, I'm retarded. Abandon thread.
>>
>>29488901
Probably getting Grampa's 60's built Marlin 336 in .35 Remington soonish. I am generally happy about it, especially the decent cheapo scope on the flip-away mount.
>>
>>29488976
I want a .357 lever action so bad, I could throw a tantrum.
>>
>>29488901
Lever-actions, in my opinion, are the most fun to shoot. I'm not really a big plinker, but holy shit I'll murder some cans when I get my hands on my Henry.
>>
>>29488901
I love lever guns, and have 2 winchesters (30-30), an Uberti in 45lc and yes, the "tactical" railed Mossberg.

There's something neat about lever guns. I like the way all the parts slide and click into place. I dunno I just like 'em.

Also, I know the Mossberg is an abortion. It's why I bought it. In 20 years, it will be a great example of how retarded the gun world can be, and make an interesting conversation piece.
>>
>>29489484
Seconded
Super quick handling IMO too
Though my golden 39A is the heaviest .22 I've ever handled it's totally worth it. Still holding out hope for a .327 federal 1894 with an appropriate barrel profile
>>
>>29488901
I don't yet but I'm thinking of getting a Henry. They offer a lot of caliber rifles ( including some pistol caliber like .44 magnum ) and http://www.hinterlandoutfitters.com/ has the one I want for the lowest price I've seen.

>>29488919
One of this one in .243: https://www.henryrifles.com/rifles/the-long-ranger/
>>
>>29488994
Check out the Rossi R92 carbine. It's chambered in .357/.38s and it's one of the funnest guns I'll ever own. You can find them for about $450 sometimes up to $500 though.
>>
>>29490390
You know, if they went a ahead and did a BLR type, they need to stop docking around and work up a Volcanic style pistol. They could offer it in a .45auto or .45autorim to keep the action and throw short without needing special ammo

Gotcha, 16" version.
>>
>>29490623
You can go with the 20" as well but the wood with the blued steel looks the best. I have the 16" version and I love it. Super fun for plinking and the ammo is cheap.
>>
>>29490733
All the reviews seem to say it's a fun as hell gun, but that there are serious fit and finish issues. Is this more or less random, or are there particular manufacturing dates/ranges to avoid?
>>
>>29489315
Have owned a Marlin .357 for awhile now and it's a blast to shoot.
And my Browning .22 lever is my favorite rimfire rifle.

Nah it's a .30-30, a model 1894. The one you're thinking off is an 1895

This thread reminded me to check for levernuggets up for sale. I check every once in a while, and now I've found one for the first time.

Under slightly different circumstances, I'd be buying that right now.

Fug. I wish one of the modern 1895 makers would make these again. Levernuggets would be so fucking fun.
>>
>>29491674
those guns are so old and rare you're usually more likely to find them at rock island or james julia than gunbroker

who now?
>>
>>29491732
Its honestly not worth it anymore with current 7.62x54r prices, getting one in .308 would be more economic plus you wouldn't have to bother with cleaning corrosive primer crap out of a lever gun
>>
>>29491760
Marlin and Browning make leverguns big enough. Marlin's 1895 comes in .45-70 for fuck's sake.

>>29491761
True.
>>
>>29491783
>Marlin and Browning make leverguns big enough. Marlin's 1895 comes in .45-70 for fuck's sake.
Marlin's 1895 is a completely different rifle
Browning hasn't made 1895s in decades
>>
>>29491783
Marlin's 1895 has a tube mag, which is bad news with spitzer centerfire rounds. Mind you it could work but you'd need lever-revolution type rounds to fire out of it only.

is it possible to get 45-70 for cheap anywhere? i always see it for at least a dollar a round.

inb4 reloading

please no, i dont reload
>>
>>29494436
$1/round is the best you'll get without reloading

why is that surprising to you?
>>
>>29491826
You can use spitzers all day long with anything that ismr straight wall. The rim and case taper offsets the nose of the projectile so it doesn't touch the primer. Leverevolution is still great though.

I want a BLR .223 take down for no real reason

Got a Marlin 30-30 a while back, I like it. Things to keep in mind
>Safety blocks the hammer from hitting the firing pin, it does not stop the trigger from being pulled
>Sights use a dovetail for windage and you have to hit that bitch hard but you ain't gonna lose zero, that's for sure
>Your loading gate is %100 going to lose it's finish, but it does not impede function
>The lever is tight as fuck and beats the shit out of your fingers with the first couple hundred uses. You don't gotta shoot it to get it to smooth up, just lube up the gun and repeatedly cycle the action while you watch TV or something. It should only take like an hour and it'll be slick as butter.
>The recoil is about the same as an AKM
>The furniture looks nice, feels nice, and holds up really well
>The finish is very very wear-resistant for a $389 gun.

I would absolutely recommend the Marlin 336W in .30-30 Winchester.
>>
>>29496317
You forgot:
>Side eject and flat-top means scope mounting is easy
>>
>>29488901
First of all fuck john wayne... just a stupid racist piece of shit. Second 30-30 is kind of boring to shoot imo.
>>
>>29494919
nice swede bayo u got there, you should post pictures of his dad instead of that lame ass lever action
>>
I use a levergun in .357/.38 for cowboy action shooting, belongs to a mate of mine cuz im too poorfag to get one and tune it to hell and back like he did. Probably has around 2k eurobucks invested in it by now. Its fun though, blasting through 10 rounds in under 3 seconds.

I've owned two of the same gun and have had small issues with both. Nothing that ruins the day though. Occasionally when I cock it the spent cartridge is stuck in the chamber, or when I load a new round it somehow flips over and tries to go in backwards. But both of these issues are super rare.
>>
>>29488901
My first gun ever was a lever action, a pre-64 Winchester 94. Couldn't be prouder of it (came across a killer deal and jumped on it for 300$). Pretty light and easy to handle so they're great for carrying on a hunt for whitetail. If nothing else working the action is, I feel, a certain satisfaction you won't find in other actions. Pic related is my gun.
