Already own WASR-10 former owner of an SLR-106. Should I go 7.62x39 or 5.45x39?
>>
>>29487494
I want just like that in 7.62x39. Would be my innawoods gun and would make a great pair with my CZ-75b with cocobolo grips.
>>
>>29487514
I wouldn't mind suppressing 7.62x39. I haven't looked into it too much yet but I'm guessing there aren't a whole lot of soviet style suppressors in the US are there.
>>
>>29487509
I was planning on going 5.45 after my 7.62, just for variety

Bent a couple flats lately. AK builder flats are slightly longer than pre bent polish blanks. My top covers aren't long enough and I now have to build them up with weld to fit

Is there any practical reason to buy a semi automatic RPK when I already own an AKM clone? For me they'd simply be a range queen, and I may rig it up with an 1PN34 and use it to kill hogs or something at night.

A FFL who runs their business out of his or her home.
It's also know as a kitchen table FFL or home based FFL.

My FFL is a former state cop who I just call up, tell him I have a gun on the way, swing by fill out my 4473 and wait until it arrives.
$20 transfer for up to 5 guns, and I get a little time to talk guns with the old guy.
>>

That sounds pretty much exactly what I'll have to do, except I can't do it early, and I have that wait.

This happens fairly frequently, all with conservative or gun related pages
>>
>>29487509
I bought an SLR-107 after having another rifle in 7.62.

It seems like 5.45 magazines are hard to come by, and they usually cost not under 40 dollars per magazine.

I bought 20 AK mags for 200 bucks from AIM Surplus the other day. You won't find deals like this for AK-74 mags, at least right now.
>>
>>29489696
My yugo bayonet doesn't fit on the 107 muzzle break.
>>
>>29490777
I'm pretty sure this has to do with a new system FB has where you have to pay to make all your posts show up for people who like your page. When it happened a bunch of pages started requesting for people to go on their page and subscribe to their feed to make sure you see all their posts because otherwise you won't. I think it's a money thing, not a politics thing.
>>
>>29488900
PROTIP: CNCWarror sells the same thing (Galil-style stock instead of triangle though) for $200 less.

Admittedly the triangle's way better looking.

But it also wouldn't be TOO tough to build one yourself and save some money if you had the tools.
>~$450 for the M92
>another ~$250 for the stock, hinge, and barrel extension of your choice
>thread on barrel extension, blind pin and weld it
>drill and thread rear tang
>bolt on hinge and stock

The Atlantic M92 carbine is nice but it's almost the same price as an SLR-107FR.
>>
>>29490750
Facebook uses algorithms based on what you post, like, comment on and look at to decide what shows up in your feed, as well as how popular said content is with other users.

You can also tweak settings for it to show you more stuff by certain pages.

Personally I see a lot of gun shit show up in my feed. Not conservative shit because I'm not a reactionary fucktard but plenty of pro-gun content.
>>
>>29487509

Manticore triangles are disgusting. Very heavy for what they are and I was not impressed with the machining or finish on the one I handled.

>>
>>29493735
There are 3 lengths, Warsaw, which is the shortest, NATO, which is the longest, and intermediate which is uncommon but is the middle ground. Its a real pain in the ass to find woodstocks in any size but Warsaw length but I think a few shops do them (Ironwood Designs does if I remember right.)

I just kept the stock bakelite grip that it came with because I hated the hogue grip I picked up. I also picked up a bakelite and blue force ak sling. I probably spent too much but it was a well used AK that needed a few things and just decided to go all out on it.

Alright /akg/,

I've got a few questions.

>What's the very best way to go about mounting this ACOG to my AK

Preferably keeping it as low to the bore axis as possible. TWS Dogleg? RS Regulate?

>What's the best available AK trigger?

Single or two stage, as long as it's better than the Tapco G2 I have in it right now. It's so fucking long and there's no indication at all of when it's going to break. Is it the ALG AKT, or is there something even better?

>Are bolt on hand guard retainers acceptable?

I want to ditch the Saiga fore end once and for all, and I don't want or need any extra accessory mounting options on the front of the rifle, so I was looking at standard black polymer AK-74 furniture. I don't really want to fuck with having to install a regular retainer though.
>>
>>29495012
I love World Market.
>>
>>29494866
Made by Century=Pass
Imported by Century=Inspect, but should be OK

That's my policy.
>>
>>29495012
>What's the very best way to go about mounting this ACOG to my AK
Probably the RS, though you're probably going to end up with a chin-weld situation unless you add a pad to your stock

>What's the best available AK trigger?
AKT is the best for the money right now

>Are bolt on hand guard retainers acceptable?
If you don't want to pay a competent shop to put the proper retainer on, and you know it's not the proper part, and it still works for you, then why not? It's your money.

Worst case scenario, you hate it and pay someone to install the proper one and you're not out much money.
>>
>>29495012
What the fuck is on that AR
>>
>>29495103
I'm relatively new to the AK world. I know it's Bulgarian, and it had CAI laser stenciled on the receiver. How do you tell if it's been made with original Bulgarian parts or new parts manufactured by Century?
>>
>>29495175
That was the problem.

They were assembled by Century using mostly original Bulgarian parts, but with US-made barrels that are 1. not chrome-lined and 2. at least some examples appear to have been modified from 5.56mm barrels with a 1:9" twist, which is not only oversize for 5.45mm by about .003" but also much too slow to stabilize the milsurp ammo with its extremely long steel-core bullet.

Weren't these the same barrels Century used to build Tantals? The Tantals were nice rifles, if you liked the wire sidefolder, but most of them were unserviceable and borderline dangerous.
>>
>>29495250
So do all the Bulgarian Century rifles have shit barrels?
>>
>>29495072

Me too! It's where I buy most of my wine and coffee.

>>29495107

>Probably the RS

I was kind of afraid of that answer. I know they're well made, but I'm just really not a fan of side-rail mounts. They add more bulk and weight than they should, and properly stripping the rifle requires you to remove it and they never quite return to zero. I have a BP-02 mount and a PSO from Kalinka and I'm probably going to sell both of them.

The TWS covers are nice, I've installed a couple for other people, but I have no idea how well they hold zero. They make me nervous.

>AKT

Best for the money, or best in general? Cost isn't really an object. I have an SSA-E in my AR and it's kind of spoiled me. I also see the Red Star Arms come up a lot in searches, and I see references to the Elftmann AK trigger but they apparently aren't actually being sold anywhere.

Point taken on the retainer though. I'll give it a whirl, and if I hate it I'll just send it off to be done proper.

>>29495149

Some poorly home-dyed medical tape. Makes the gun more comfortable when it's cold as fuck outside / rifle gets really hot.
>>
>>29495409
As far as your mounting, I'm not really sure what would be best. RS is the route I'd go if I wanted to mount an optic that couldn't already go on the side mount. The TWS should keep a decent zero and keep it relatively low, but it's still an ACOG, so it'll sit high no matter what you put it on.

Personally I'd get a PO 3.5x21 for authenticity's sake (even these sit a little high) and put the ACOG on an AR.

>Best for the money, or best in general?
Right now I'd say both. At some point there's diminishing returns, and the next "best" option would be a $285 ELF trigger.

At that point a $285 ELF trigger in your $600 Saiga, with your $900-1200 ACOG sitting on top, with your $20 bolt on handguard retainer up front, because you wouldn't spend the extra $200 for someone to press the correct parts, seems like your priorities are a little askew to me.

But again, it's your money.
>>
>>29495409
>>29495711
Forgot to mention, if price is no issue, and you want a low mounting 4x optic, WOLF imports the 1-4X32MM PSU. It's about $1500 but offers a variable zoom
>>
>>29495711

But a bolt on handguard retainer is perfectly functional. If not incorrect. But I don't think he's looking to build a replica AK.
>>
>>29495711

Alright, I'll probably grab an ALG AKT on my next round of firearm spending. I've used ELF's AR triggers and they're great, I wouldn't have much problem dropping the money for one of their AK triggers except for the fact that they don't actually appear to be for sale anywhere.

>seems like your priorities are a little askew to me

Truth is, I'm trying to give this rifle a fair shake. It was my first rifle (that wasn't a mosin) and I converted it myself. As I got other rifles, its shortcomings started to become painfully obvious and it just fell out of use. As stupid as it is, I have something of a sentimental attachment to it or I would just sell it. Considering I have something like $3k in my AR, it didn't seem unreasonable to invest some money in it.

So this weekend I took a range trip and brought only those two rifles along, so I could get an objective idea of what specific things I didn't like about the AK as opposed to the AR. A few hundred rounds later I was totally convinced that all it really needed was a good optic, and a good trigger.

I had the extra ACOG already and I love the optic, and since I don't plan on building another AR any time soon so I figured the AK would be a good home for it as long as I were able to work out an effective mounting solution.

The extra shit like hand guards isn't that important to me, and the only reason I'm not ready to send the gun to a proper smith for real hand guard retainers is that I'm not yet convinced I want AK74 handguards as opposed to some of the other options on the market, I want to try em out first.

I've never heard of one with the original milspec chrome-lined barrel. I've heard of people getting them rebuilt with a chromed or nitrided barrel, but unless you came into the rifle really cheap, that can end up costing almost as much as an Arsenal.

>>

thanks

Would an AKMS74 be an underfolder in 5.45mm, then? I've seen some semiautos built in this configuration though they are, I suppose one-offs, and no one ever mass-produced such a configuration for issue to troops. Right?
>>
>>29496569

The M stands for Modernized, as in AKM.

The S is the addition that denotes the folding stock on the AKM. In this case it was usually an under folder. The exception are the "Khyber Pass" side folding AKMs.

AK-74s were never made with an underfolding stock, they had transitioned to side-folders. You might get the rare underfolding AK-74 but it is usually home built.

Well it's here /k/, my first rifle.

There are a few kinks to work out; the front sight is canted, the bolt carrier won't close when a round is chambered, but Im pretty happy overall. It even came with the little black capsule parts kit, without the correct kind of stock
>>
>>29498216

Cast parts as opposed to forge, bad quality control, lacks pre-ban features like bayonet lug.

It's a bad AK for the price you pay. Not as bad as an IO AK but still pretty bad.
>>
>>29497999
What is your reasoning for wanting a RAS47 with Magpul over an Atlantic Firearms checked WASR?

The WASR is better in everyway and is cheaper. You can always add magpul furniture later.

DDI AKs are only $100 more as well.
>>
>>29498250
If your point of aim and point of impact are the same at the correct distances leave your sight where it is, lube your AK with engine break in oil and work the action a lot if you do not know how to do the fine fitting the right way, it smells terrible but works great; it should stop sticking at any point except the hammer hump but that takes some actual fitting in most cases.

Go look up AKOU's 5000 round RAS-47 test.
>at 2500 rounds
>non-functional sights
>internals starting to look like plastic melted in a microwave
>rivets working their way out of the receiver

WASRs and NPAPs are the best entry-level price-point AKs on the market.

NPAP if you want beefier build and slightly better fit and finish.

WASR if you want Chrome-lined barrel, standardized parts and ergos with most AKMs.

I own both and would recommend a WASR over an NPAP as an intro to AKs, though both are solid fucking guns.

Don't get an RAS-47. AKfags will always mock you.
>>
>>29498600
You got it. I'll try that tomorrow. Also the guy at the gun store told me to fix my canted sights with a hammer, what are your thoughts on that?
>>
>>29498638
if I remember correctly, you might have to remove some pins on the front sight post. Not so sure though.
>>
>>29498638
It's certainly POSSIBLE.

But you also DEFINITELY don't know what the fuck you're doing.

At the end of the day it's your gun and not my business what you do with it. But to me part of the appeal of slavshit is that it can be 100% functional despite visual imperfections.

So just squat, roundhouse some cheap vodka, and stop sperging.
>>
>>29498638
A plastic or rubber mallet, not a hammer, brace the barrel as well when you're doing it IF it is even necessary, as I said earlier if it is properly zeroed with the canted sights then straightening them will mean you need to re-zero your rifle.
>>
>>29498333
I can't tell if it is canted or not.
Try setting it on a table with the pistol grip and mag release hanging off, and the receiver bottom flat on the table. Then use two squares, one on each side, check the side of the receiver and the front sight base to see if you have the same distance on each side. You could also recenter the front sight post and run a string line to the rear to see if you have the same amount of barrel on each side.

Jesus fuck I hope nobody listens to this stupid asshole.

Your extractor might be fucked up. Those tooling marks on the front are unacceptable, and if they're letting that get to the point where it looks like that I can't imagine how few fucks they give about the tools gutting the rim relief. The case probably isn't sitting fully in the bolt face. Take the extractor out and try it again with a variety of (ideally inert) cartridges. If you still can't get it closed maybe see if you can rent a GO gauge or find a local gunsmith with one. It should close with roughly 30lbs of pressure on the carrier on the GO gauge.

I'm willing to bet that the headspace is set too tight though. It could also be an improperly cut turning guide, or it could be missing a small chamfer on the bolt that interacts with the turning guide.

Although honestly the best advice you could get for a RAS47 that isn't working NIB is to return it or send it in for repair then sell it to anyone stupid enough to pay near retail for it.

anyone else see the arms captured by the Navy off of a ship? Wonder if you can start a company that can pay the military to strip parts off of captured guns, sort of like a junkyard, before they get destroyed.

I've already got around two dozen surplus 5.45 mags and new production ((10)) 5.45 mags, and I'm all for getting more and keeping the sanitized mags I picked up, but i don't want or need the Tapco mags.

What can I do to get rid of them without throwing them in the trash? If I listed them for sale on AK files for like $15 for all three would they sell?

They work well enough for range mags but i just don't need them as I have enough better mags.

Is it normal for a brand new AK with 0 mag wobble to have a a tiny bit after putting 60 rounds through it? I was expecting mag wobble eventually, just didn't think it would be practically instant

i'd buy em

its prob the mags fault
but mag wobble isn't bad, unless it wont feed

Where to find laminated takeoff wood, from a WASR or otherwise, to fit a stamped AK?

I've been lurking (lurk lurk lurk) on Armslist locally but not seeing much, nor much current on Armslist, the Arfcom EE, Gunbroker, etc.

Alternately I am wondering about takeoff polymer, as long as it's AKM pattern, to paint green to make my very own Border Guard Presentation Avtomat. And a couple Tapco slabside 7.62 mags to paint to match, of course.
