If that's the case why not just have the head move and have eyes on the front? If you have to flip between each camera that's even dumber, for the same reason people don;t wear hoods in combat even if it's pissing it down.
Cant find the break down sheet but this getup is practical.
Not a real uniform in a sense, but I like to imagine that the first real forms of power armor fielded would be similar to Snake's Octocamo in appearance and function to an extent. More about regulating the soldier's body temperature in extreme environments and limited strength enhancements.

This is probably the most functional piece of armour that was in New Vegas besides the NCR Ranger shit.

The most you need until you start to figure out what you need would be a simple chest rig and a backpack, then go from there.

I mean, I love the show but it's a practical set up like Batman's uniform is practical. For one he doesn't carry any supplies other than what's on that belt, and in place of a backpack he has a giant grappling hook and winch system that looks like it would weigh as much as a gas generator. Then he's got a million weird gadgets and stuff, ammo, sometimes another long gun, etc. Then he puts a giant cape over all of it to make sure he's extra warm in the desert.

They're miners. The whole story arcs around taking an object off a planet that was holding the bad aliens in a container. They popped the lid off a xeno infestation. The obelisk was a mental fuck type of thing and the creatures are pacified by it. Which makes humans go mad over time.
They are surface/asteroid miners. Their tools get taken with them. Their tools can be used to cut rock or flesh. It's a clever story in some ways. The suit is a space suit, armored to take collapsing weight until they're found.

A still suit made from ballistic clothe fully sealed with moisture reclaim/filter. Not a lot of set ups have personal ac units. Cant argue about the winch much although its probably lighter than an atlas winch but will kill you irl, gravity sucks.
The helmet has night vision, coms and acoustic sensors/triangulation is filtered air and bullet resistant.
Two simple ammo pouches normal/special rounds wont get in the way, and hes too good to have to spam shots.
Poncho hides your goods.
Extra gear is hauled by your loli sidekick

...being semi scifi, maybe it's totally OP and can cut through an armored vehicle like a hot knife through butter and then detonate in side like a C4 charge... but his main target is APC's cause that's what the shield is rated for, machine gun fire and fragmentation from being close range and shooting an APC.

Ground-level Gamma radiation has likely gone down over twenty years. Assuming they keep flasks of Red Wine and take Iodine tablets before heading to the surface, they don't need HAZMAT suits.
Most of the lethal (Alpha, Beta, Gamma) radiation particles are attached to all forms of Water (Snow, Ice, Rain, Moisture, Condensation). Unless they strip to their underwear and start making Snow Angels, they're fine. Now if they go up there 24/7/365, they likely won't last very long. Charcoal filters only stop the MAJORITY of water vapor in the air from entering their bodies.

you can see where a lot of the kit is the same, but just mixed and matched. The boots all look similar, and the vests all look similar if not the same. obviously certain roles might demand certain kit like the elite shock trooper, but you can see where the assault infantry advanced, lmg trooper, and mounted gunner medium are the same uniform. Overall it doesn't actually look that complicated.

Never played the games but yeah I was going to say this, asides from the a lot of the headgear being different (7-9 different kinds of gas masks), the only odds one out in varying a lot from the base kit are the Elite Shock Trooper, Miner, Pyro Trooper, Shock Trooper, Scout Sniper and Support Trooper.
