seriously though.. i found it in the desert was just trying to confirm if its a blasting cap or not because it looks like one and inside of the gray wire coming from it is two wires one is black and one is red.

It looks like one, I would contact your sheriff to have it properly disposed of. Those things are extremely dangerous, especially one that has been around for God knows how long. I would not mess around with it OP.

That's a detonator, it's shocktube.
It's a tube full of explosives that is used to set off bigger explosives at distance. I wouldn't hold it in your hands or put it anywhere it might be exposed to heat or shocks.

There's only only one real way to find out. Stick it on a flat surface and smack it really hard with a hammer. If it makes kind of a "ping" noise, then it's a blasting cap, but if it goes "pong" then it's nothing special and you can just throw it away.
