Anyone know of a telltale way to identify original and reproduction Arisaka stripper clips apart? It's hard because as far as I can tell not all original clips have markings on them

I've got ten of them (all are normal brass while one is a late war steel) and so far I only know for sure that five are original (four brass and the one steel have the typical small Arsenal mark). I don't believe any of the others are repros because I've picked them all up as original from reputable militaria sites over the years (mainly IMA) but I want to be sure because I'm wanting to sell them and there's a big difference in price between original ones and reproductions.

Only thing really wrong with it was the cracked aftermarket stock with missing military stock hardware and an aftermarket Lyman peep site.
>>
>>29483222
I think he means in the fold out "always on" configuration. There weren't many rifles or carbines for that matter that had that feature. Most sensible people went with a detachable blade bayonet but I guess too many russian conscripts used their bayonets as tent stakes and the Commissars got fed up and had the manufacturers bolt the damn things on

I always sell my guns for WAY cheaper than the actual worth for two reasons. The first is because I don't have the patience to sell collectibles in the era of pawn stars and storage wars. Figure here is a good thread to ask this. What things should I look out for when buying milsurp? Pitted bore, cracked stock, loose mag, what else? I've found a k31 for sale at a local fun store, but it's $50 cheaper than other k31s there. I've looked it over, only thing it's missing compared to the others is a sling. The stock is also darker than the others, but it's supposedly a beech stock by the serial number. Any idea why they have it on sale?
>>
Can someone tell me how much a Yugo M48 Mauser should be bought for?

Stainless patina, parts are not matching, and the dude says it comes with a leather pouch and "some" rounds. No picture of the bore. Is $300 a fair price to buy?

It's actually not too bad. The burn area is only about an inch long on the stock along side the receiver.
I think I can pass it off as a cosmoline stain or something.
If only the unissued enfield stocks weren't so blonde.

Google is your friend. Not an issue I can help you with.

>grease or oil for lube?
I use oil. Use it in small quantities like on other guns, but never oil the bolt face, because oil actually attracts grit and other crap which will make your gun slam fire.

Clean the firing pin housing often, and dry it out after you do so. A spray can with a straw attachment will work fine

Well, PPU is the only place you'll find brass right now. Norma used to make it, dunno if they still do.

Bullets are the real sticking point. Have you slugged your bore? .327 bullets are not easy to find.

These guys might be able to help you, they do a fair amount of custom casting, but ordering from them blows.

http://www.montanabulletworks.com/8mm_or_32_40_Rifle.html

If nothing else, .324 might be as close as you can get. Pressures run about the same as .303 brit. The berthiers are a bit stronger than the lebels.
>>
>>29496455
I have about 25 bullets right now. I'll just pull them from the cases that wouldn't fire.

I've read that 8mm Mauser bullets can work in some guns. IIRC that's what PPU uses in their loadings.
>>
>>29496575
They'll work in that they go down the barrel, however, many the rifles have bore up to .329 in diameter. 6 thousandths is a great deal in bore diameter.

slug dat bitch.

Bubba hath not laid his filthy hands upon my 1942 Tikka. It has a Sako front sight, though, so maybe it's a frankenrifle. The magazine, bolt, and receiver match at any rate.

It was built at SAKO; Tikkakoski Oy only made barrels, never assembled rifles. All "Tikka" rifles were actually built elsewhere.
>>
>>29496575
8mm Mauser bullets will work safely but you won't get anything even close to accuracy. However Buffalo Arms makes a .327 bullet just for the Lebel/Berthier rifles. They also make .300 bullets for Carcanos and so on.

So, if they're using Finnish-made M91 barrels, is it safe to shoot standard 7.62x54R in them? I know the Finns stamped a lot of M39's with the "D" which meant they had .311 barrels as opposed to .308, but is the cut down M91 barrel .311 too? There is no "D" stamp on the rifle, so I'm a bit unsure.

Also, the barrel looks kinda purple when you hold it in the light. Kinda weird, the previous VKT M39's I've owned were all black.
>>
>>29490301
I'm not really sure, I'll ask him next time I'm in the shop. It came in on Tuesday last week, co-worker told me about it and I bought it on Saturday.
>>
>>29499676
>they had .311 barrels as opposed to .308, but is the cut down M91 barrel .311 too?

The "D" mark only means that the throat of the barrel was lengthened so that the longer 200gr .310" projectile of the D166 cartridge could fit into it without making contact with the lands, and causing excessive chamber pressure when fired. The barrels are still nominally .3095" (in the case of M91s, M27s, M28s) or .3085" (M28-30). Thing is, there was a lot of variance in actual manufacturing of barrels (for instance, the 1920s-made Tikka M91 barrels had groove diameters ranging from .3087" to .3106"), so the only reliable way to tell the bore diameter is to slug it.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it.

More importantly, anywhere with a better deal than classic firearms?
>>

Look out for funny stamps. VKT and SAKO produced comparable rifles, although SAKO is more expensive typically because of the brand name. Find em at gun shows if you don't want to deal with Classic.

Honestly if everything that you said is correct, about the rifle being in "excellent" (for what it is) condition, and is only missing a sling, I would go for it.

If you are unsure about whether or not you should buy it solely because of the price, (personally me) I would reevaluate my priorities in desire of next-on-my-list guns to get, and maybe even priorities in whether or not I even should buy the gun at this exact moment if I could buy it later anyways.

Just my opinion.
>>
>>29507768
The price of milsurp has been steadily rising. Better to buy now than later.
>>
>>29507028

Thanks, me not having too much of an abundance of shekels and the fact that the average price of these nice bayonets really makes me unsure on whether or not it's worth my shekels.
>>
>>29507534
Slings are easy to replace.

The varnish/shellac/oil finish or whatever the mountain cowards put on their wood just has dirt/detritus/old motor oil/assorted armory filth worked into it if it is darker. Don't worry about it.

The most important thing is metal condition. If the bore is good, and the action isn't corroding, you are pretty solid.
>>
>>29507794

If you are so inclined, then go all for the deal, I know that I would if the rifle was relevant to my immediate interests and desires.

bumpin with Hakim

I put a pen across the action earlier and cycled the bolt. It crushed the pen pretty good. There's a reason I always reload by removing the mag
>>
>>29509179

I'm sorry I have little knowledge of this rifle, firstly, the hakim and the original swedish variant have no charging handle, why is that? I try searching online maybe I have bad english or can't search correct thing. Secondly, why does it matter if the magazine is in or not?

Very nice looking rifle!

Hakim Receiver.jpg
822 KB, 2144x1424
>>29509250

Its just the way it was designed, instead of a charging handle, you grab onto the rear cover, slide it forward, then backwards and the bolt releases. I remove the magazine to prevent the bolt slamming shut on my thumb in the event that the lock didn't work. It's suppose to lock back on an empty mag, but it doesn't always work.

>>29509262

On the rear of the receiver, you have your stripper clip guide, which is the big box, which then has a brass deflector running down the side and back into the side of the cover. This can be uses as a charging handle but you're suppose to use the offset rectangular looking grips on each side to grab the whole cover.
>>
>>29509298
I've heard that thing slams forward really quickly. Probably 10x worse than a thumb in the SKS.

>>29509298

Thanks anon!

m1916 spanish mauser, still in it's original 7x57 chambering. most examples in the US seem to be the later .308 conversions which are kinda sketchy

Hopefully this isn't sideways. It's nothing special, really. Springfield, pretty nice and crisp bore, stock looks pretty good but has dings here and there, which is fine with me because if I accidently ding it a little bit it's no big deal. It's not gonna be a safe queen.
