The only AKM you will see in service is AKMS with PBS-1 because they have a fuckhuge stockpile of them. 7.62x39 is an objectively inferior cartridge.

>>
>>29481712
>muh retarded strawman point
7.62x39 was much more common at the point when steel core was banned than 5.45 was when 7n6 was banned. Additionally, it wasn't the main source of 7.62 ammo whereas with 7n6 it was. Go ahead and meme away you in-denial cuck.
>>
>>29483314

I wish we had this test repeated with a more consistently manufactured barrier. Not because I expected the fatter bullets to penetrate more, but just because I want to understand why the 5.56 performed differently than the 5.45.

Both rounds are right around 900m/s, and 2% in bullet diameter should not result in that much different in resistance.
>>
>>29483280
Yes, by every objective measure except being able to use a huge range of bullet weights.
>>
>>29483453
my bet is pure lead core vs steel core. 7n6 steel core is very mild, but still much harder than the lead in the 5.56 he used
>>
Whats realistic is that my rifle will fire in any condition your slavaboo rifle will even mud.
>>
>>29483497

> 5.56 better in every objective measure

Except for the following:
> BC (.224 55gr = .25, .308 125gr = .32
> KE
> Performance out of SBRs
> Wound diameter

I get it. The 5.56 drops less, gets there quicker, and is much more available. But you and I both know the .300blk had a lot more thought put into it than shooting a large variety of bullet weights.
>>
>>29483562
All ammo was lead core. Though 5.45 was 5.45x39 FMJ 59 Grain Golden Tiger. IIRC it has steel jacket. Ammo of other calibers had copper jacket.
>>

why would Winchester market soft points like pic related for deer/wild boar but hollow points for "personal defense"?

they have 7.62x39 in 123g Super X "Power Point" proprietary SPs for hunting and then 120g g PDX1 Defender hollow points for personal defense.

is there any noticeable difference or is it just marketing? I'm not that versed in ammunition/ballistics yet, but from my limited knowledge it seems like hollow points and soft points are practically the same for expansion and penetration purposes
