ITT: misconceptions we had about guns when we were younger.

>thought you threw away magazines after using them once
>thought shotguns worked like they usually work in video games, i.e. the most destructive thing in the universe under 10 feet but totally useless beyond that
>thought people who held pistols with both hands were weak
>thought bullets traveled in a laser-straight line until they hit something
>thought bulletproof vests made you totally impervious to all gunfire and you could just calmly walk through a rain of bullets without giving a shit
>>
>>29478590
I thought the mp-412 was real and not just vaporware.
I thought ak's literally never had to be cleaned.
I thought all gangbangers used gold deagle brand deagles.
I thought Russian guns instantly equals bad guys.
I thought American guns instantly equal good guys.
I thought lmgs were all comfortable to fire from the hip.
I thought all snipers could kill at like 5 miles away.

Holy fuck I was a baby autist as a kid.
>>
>>29478590
I thought war was cool, and that gunfire doesnt hurt your years

Does anyone remember the "The shotgun. An often misunderstood weapon" copypasta that finally got HM to leave this board?

So does the government. That's why a pistol made with intent to be held with two hands is actually a rifle.
>>
thought full-auto is more useful than semi-auto for riflemen.
thought 556 has no recoil.
underestimated the weight of everything.
had no idea ammo is expensive.

I used to think that "gas operated" meant that the rifle had a little Co2 cartridge in it, like an Airsoft gun.

Have you ever fired a gun nigger? Do you have any idea the type of hardware it takes to make sure a scope stays the fuck where you want it to? Even the slightest of shifts will make it completely off. This is why you have to zero your gun constantly.

I don't even know if the internals of binocs would handle the shock of a rifle. It's going to take more than just a bit of fucking duct tape and a sharpie for that to even work in the slightest.

Why do you think most early scopes were so tiny? Do you even know where you are right now faggot?

They still get fucked up easier than most modern rifles like the AR.

AR fares waaaaay better in the desert than the AK. AK has large open spaces for sand to ingress and fuck up the weapon.

Sealed systems do way better in mud or sand. Look up the abundant torture tests where the AK fares horribly.

Its a third world conscript's gun

To be honest, I thought it meant that certain calibers were filled with pressurized, explosive gas that the primer set off.

When I was young I thought all that was needed to make a "space gun" was to make the "gas" in the rifle a split case with fuel on one side and oxidizer on the other, down the centerline so the primer would go off and let them mix.

...I liked guns when I was little, but I knew more about how spaceships worked so I just kinda pushed the two things together.

Red blooded, meat eating, gun owning, pussy destroying American. That is correct.

I like all self contained cartridge guns. Muzzle loaders and cap and ball revolvers are a bit boring, but I don't care if other people enjoy them.

Case in point I probably own more guns than you.

1 nugget
1 shotgat
2 ARs
1 M1 Garand.
>>
>>29489889

I would even say the best rifle ever objectively made is the AR-15 or rather one of it's variants.
So an american rifle, but to say the M1 garand is objectively the best rifle ever made is just plain bullshit.

And yeah, you probably own more guns than me since I'm a eurofag and I can't own semi-rifles and handguns until I am 22.
I currently only own a Lee Enfield and a CZ455 Thumbhole, so nothing fancy.
However I've shot the SIG MCX and some Colt AR-15, so maybe my opinion on the gun is not as sophisticated as an american who has shot it countless times.

I pity your europoor status, but we're all going to make it someday man.

The AR is good, I really love both of the ones I own, I want to get a third one with a 11.5" barrel at some point. I'm also interested in the X95 Tavor.

But my Garand is definitely my favorite rifle. Is it the best rifle to fight a war with? Nope. Is it the best bench rest MOA queen? Nope. It's just a great rifle and I love shooting it. I'm thinking about getting a second one in .308.

Tell me about your Enfield. I really want to get a nice one before they all disappear.

Yea it's pretty okay, in one year I can get a handgun and a semi-automatic rifle (most preferably a Tavor, too).

Never shot a Garand, unfortunately. I'd really love to.

Pic related is my enfield, I'm not on my pc so this is the only pic available to me right now.
It's a No3 Mk1, was built in 1916 so it's 100 years old now, it was in India around 1950, because the receiver has an ishapore stamp on it, no idea how it got there, but seems like the metal parts were refinished or replaced there, but it wasnt rechambered to .308 like the ishapore rifles.

It is in very good shape, better than most enfields made in the 1950s, I was very surprised by that actually, I assume it didnt see much action, but I want to know what the fuck it did in India, and how it ended up here.
>>
>>29489860

Yes, I was.

The Garand is an awesome rifle don't get me wrong, and I'd even venture to say it was one of the best rifles of its time, but there are plenty of guns out there that fill the role once occupied by the M1 and do a better job of it
>>
>>29490088

Could have been involved in some "Kings Rifles" type BS. May have wound up there on the way to fight against the Japanese in Singapore and what not.

You have good taste friend.

My Garand was made in early 43. It's got a Springfield receiver, barrel, and trigger group. My elevation adjustment is HRA and my op rod is WRA.

If you ever get the chance, shoot a Garand. The ping is the most rewarding thing on the planet I swear.

Isn't it weird wondering about where these old rifles have been? About who carried them?

Nice, my Garand is a hodgepodge of 7 different rifles because my Grandfather forced his brothers and sons to go get CMP Garands with him so that he could assemble one very nice Garand and sell the other 6.
>>
>>29490242

Sounds like turned 7 good rifles into 1 great rifle and 6 mediocre ones. What a jerk.
>>
As mentioned already, I too thought Desert Eagles shot .50 BMG and couldn't figure out how the cartridges fit. I also thought .357 Magnum was the most powerful round in the world. I thought shotguns only shot birdshot and thats why it was completely ineffective on a person beyond 15 feet.
>>
I thought the calibers of larger guns like 25mm and 120mm was actually the range.

All worked out because I was drawing mobile suits and jotted down weapons like 300mm rifles, 250mm rockets, and shit like that.

Also believed for a time that all guns were fucking a billion tons after my dad handed me his Mossberg 500 and I was like 4 or 5 years old.

>>

Fair enough.

I'm debating getting a second one in .308 so I can just feed it M80 ball that I hope to also be feeding to other toys in the caliber. Makes more sense than needing a lot of 30-06 and M80.

I dunno if I should get a CMP or Fulton armory one though if I'm going .308.

I'm actually not on either side. I really like both systems. But to say the AK isn't reliable is stupid and to say that the tolerances that were built in by design ti make it reliable are just indicative of le shitty Soviet manufacturing is spouting bad history. It's made pretty clear in most researched histories of the AK pattern rifle that the tolerances are a feature of the design. The idea is to sacrifice accuracy for reliability. It generally works. As far as I've been able to tell, both systems work pretty damn well. People who feel the need to shit on either don't know much about guns.
