I want a shotgun for home defense and deciding between the Remington 870 Police model or Mossberg 590 A1.

I really liking the Mossberg but I heard it has eject issues, which will be a problem if Goblins are entering my home and the thing jams, should I just get the Remington instead?

Just get a fucking siaga, vepr, or DDI an shotgat and use high brass full power 00 buck
>>
>>29475767
Now hold on lad, I'm not made of money, how much would all that cost? I'm willing to spend up to 300

the 590A1 just has a thicker barrel, ghost rings, bayonet lug, and metal safety+trigger housing vs. the 500 and 590

Aluminium receiver is a plus in my opinion, it's the same as Remington's one but a tad lighter.
>>
>>29475754
>the Mossberg but I heard it has eject issues,
Mossberg has 3 extractors and each are easier to replace or n-rig if they break. I'm not sure if what you heard has any foundation, hopefully others have already weighed in on it
>>
>>29476048
Compare to the brittle-ass extractors and ejectors on a current day Remington, which you can't replace yourself.
>>
>>29476048
lol holy shit why did I say 3. The Mossy has 2 extractors. And you can replace them both with a Philips head. If one breaks though, you don't even have to do shit as the other will still fully complete the extraction every time.

On the Remington you have to punch out a rivet to remove the one brittle extractor then re-rivet to install a new one. So if your one extractor on the remmy is having issues, too fucking bad.

>want a shotgun for home defense
Really you want a weapon for home defense and you go for the inferior choice of home defense weapons just because mass plebs pick it?
>>
>>29476515
Go fuck yourself.

Get the 590A1 OP. I own both and the Mossy is just a better shotgun overall. Softer recoil, no hangups (personally), and it's built like a fucking tank.

Remington doesn't uses MIM shit extractors for the Police models, Anon. The ejectors on 870 Police models are also known for not breaking in decades of service.

Only the ejector is riveted in, the extractor (which has a higher chance of breaking than the ejector) is held in by a spring-loaded plunger, you can literally pry it out with a screwdriver and snap a new one in with your finger.

At that price range, buy a Maverick 88, a Hogue Tamer pistol grip, and some ammo.
>>
>>29475754
AA12 is enough

>pistol grip on a shotgun

Disgusting
>>
>>29475754
would advise a 590A1 if you have the extra money, otherwise either a 500 or an old-production Remington it doesn't really matter, whichever you find more comfortable to use
>>
590a1 Master Race.

The 870 police models are really good but the fact that you can service the 590a1 yourself makes it a no brainer to me.

Better safe than sorry.

My vote is the 590

Browning A-Bolt Shotgun.png

Hi guys,

I'm looking at my first shoitgun; primarily for hunting deer and turkey but I'm also planning to use it for home defense/camp defense. I found one by Browning that was, surprisingly, within my price range and wanted to ask you guys your opinion about it. Pic related.
>>
>>29478765
You're not going to do well trying to defend yourself with a bolt action
>>
>>29478765
I'd rather have a pump or lever, but some people prefer bolt shotguns.

Whatever floats your boat.
>>
>>29479033
I know I'll really only have one shot when somebody enters my home but I'm more concerned about hunting given my build not only has secure entry but my apartment has more locks than any other unit ( bolt, latch and chain with only the bolt being able to be opened from the outside ). How do you think a shotgun like this would do for turkey and how do you think it would handle deer slugs?

>>29479074
Yeah, I heard bolts were supposed to be more accurate and figured it might be nice if I were to use slugs when deer hunting. I won't be able to get a second firearm for a while ( lack of funds ) so for now I'm just looking for one that can do multiple things well.

Why not just get a 500. Also I've never heard of any Mossberg ejection issues and I've never had any.
>>
>>29478765
Well it has a rifled barrel so you're going to get weird patterns with anything that isn't a slug.
>>
>>29479364
Will that make it hard for using normal shot to hunt turkey and other fowl?
>>
>>29475754
I've put many rounds through my 500 and it has never failed to feed or eject. I've never heardof them having issues ejecting
>>
>>29479373
Impossible, actually. Doughnut shaped patterns, you'll throw shot away from the center of your aiming point.
>>
>>29479166
>that beautiful furniture

Fuck I need to replace the plastic shit show on my 500

Watch this video for reference. Honestly with a budget as large as yours I'd perhaps consider getting a shotgun with a smooth and a rifled barrel that you can swap. Though to be honest all of the shotguns I have are smoothbore and I haven't hunted a whole lot with them. Perhaps someone else can offer some more knowledge on rifled barrels, but as far as I now they're only really made for shooting slugs.

nigga its a shotgun bolt vs pump is irrelivent for accuracy
a rifled barrel is not a do all gun a smoothbore is
a rifled barrel will improve your accuracy with slugs but completely fuck your patterns with shoot giving you donut holes with all the shot on the outside and none in the middle
