Looking for a new molle capable bugout bag.
The stitching on the chest strap of my 50 dollar Midway USA bag ripped and I'm looking for a better one.
Is the 5.11 Tactical Rush pack worth $90?
Can anyone recommend a more cost-effective bugout bag?

Got my 5.11 24hour backpack a year ago, Love it, holds 50pounds of books (muh college) and still fun to ruck with it at night with weights in it, strong everywhere would recommend

There's your problem. You're buying this heavy poorly made tactifool shit. Really, get something from Kelty, Osprey, Deuter, or Lowe Alpine. They have internal frame, hold up for years of use, are lightweight, and they don't stick out.

Rather than a bug out bag I suggest a bug out bicycle or motorcycle. Though it all depends on what your goal is.

I had a Marine ILBE assault pack and loved it. Then I impulse-bought the MOLLE II salt pack and loved it more, even if the monochrome digital camo is uglier than petrified duck shit.

Milsurp, if it's still in decent shape, is quasi-indestructible for your purposes. Either sells for $50 on eBay.

I'll second the nod to the 24hr from 5.11. Ive used it as a everyday bag for school and some as a hiking pack and weekend pack. Its has held up good. If you are going to put over 30ish pounds in to plan on retrofitting a waist belt to help carry the load. It has tons of well placed pockets and will definitely help organize. My favorite feature is the full length side pockets that you can barely squeeze a Nalgene in.

I have the Rush 72, great, and well made, i love it and think its worth it, have taken it hiking and camping multiple times. Awesome pack

I would suggest you get your bug out stuff first, then buy a pack.

I got the maxpedition Falcon II on recommendation from someone here. It's specifically meant to be my bugout bag, which should basically be a 3-5 day bag at most.

I realized as I was building it that (barring cold weather) you don't really need a whole lot to live 3 days. If you want to make it 3 days, you need clean water, simple shelter, weather-proof clothing, fire, and 2 small meals per day. First Aid kits might be useful, and a few tools like a knife might come in handy. But really that's it.

I decided I'd try to stock mine up and aim for a 2 week - indefinite utility bag. The small-ish Falcon II wound up being overkill for a 3 day bag, so I was able to load it up with about 20lbs of stuff that could at least help me start a long term excursion innawoods. It'd be too small for an INCH bag. Way too small. But it's been a great little camping bag that doesn't let you overload.

I use a Camelbak Motherload, a great bag, plenty of MOLLE, and plenty of storage.

How much do all of these cost, anons? Let's do some cost-effectiveness comparisons here.

If your bug out bag is being used as an actual bug out bag, I don't see a reason to go all out on an assault pack like that. An Alice pack or jansport bag would do the same excact thing and be way more low key. Just my opinion. The rush packs are very much worth the money tho, super well made and tough as hell.
