Anyone here ever had an idea for a firearm's operating system (either entirely new or a modification of an existing design) but didn't have any idea how to test it out to see if it's actually viable?

I'm in that situation right now. My idea isn't anything revolutionary and may (probably) has been done but I want to try it out and see if it would actually work. Any suggestions?

BTW I only have shitty sketches of the idea currently as it was kind a a eureka moment for me so I just drew something really quick to not let me forget it.

Are there computer programs that could do a preliminary function test on the design?

Pic unrelated.

Sketchup or blender
Describe it.

Basically it's just capturing the bcg within its buffer spring, you could throw it in an AR system and it would eliminate the need for the buffer tube, thus making bullpup ARs very possible.

Will skethup be able to function test the design at all?

I wish i had those problems.
My genious is....limited.
Plastic milk jug moon clips worked in my revolver long enough to shoot my wifes ammo.
I think i might make a slamgun for .22 and mount it as the tip of an atlatl some time.
Fucking firing systems...

Idk, I don't think my idea is genius. But I do wanna try it. I'm sure it's already been done.

someone needs to modernize the TKB-517

All eurekas are genious, friendo.
It's ok to be modest about it too.

Captcha, you want tea? Then show me tea.
You want tea cups, then say tea cups.

Better ways than keeping a buffer tube.
>>
>>29464594
do you mean sorta like pic related? (sks recoil sprong guide rod) but buffer spring sized? like the trow pdw stock buffer/bcg?

iirc sketchup is architecture type modelling, and blender would pretty much be like working with clay. solidworks is your best bet, autocad in a close second but they are rather expensive, I havent found out how to get SW for free yet.

try asking in /3/

I'd let her handle my glock

So where does the bolt go while it cycles?
>>
>>29464659
I don't know what you mean? The bolt can do exactly what it would do in an AR.

I'll take a picture of my shit drawing to give context.

Has anyone ever heard of an adaptable bolt/bcg/extractor? I've had an idea for a long time about an adjustable boltface/extractor that would reliably cycle different sizes of ammunition, similar to how a mechanical pencil grips lead,
but cant find anything remotely close through googling, I might end up asking Ian

There are bolt attachments.
>>
>>29464686
like shims? what do you mean?
>>
>>29464680
Interchangeable heads yes
Adjustable head, no
Wouldn't be strong enough
>>
>>29464674
Look at this bcg, notice how it's the entire length of the upper receiver? Without a buffer tube to cycle into, you wouldn't be able to cycle in a new round

Hey guys, was gonna start a new thread but this seems like a good thread to ask my question.

How do BCGs not fall out of line in a semi auto rifle? Like, why does the BCG stay going in the right direction on the AR 15? I know it's not floating I just don't know what it actually is doing.

the idea is to have a fat ass boltface say big enough for x54R, but you have an x39 barrel in the gun, so you just tighten down the extractor and the opposing wall to keep the cartridge centered. thinking along the lines of a semi-auto tilting block, not rotating like AR bolt lugs.
then if you need to install the x54R barrel, you dial the extractor back to hold the bigger cartridge

I see what you mean. I was operating under the assumption that they'd be dropping in a new bolt carrier/buffer system anyway to be fitted with the spring, but it could easily fit in the AR system.

Is there more of your pic?

Sorry I honestly don't know.
