Compact AR Project.jpg
266 KB, 1920x1080
Alright /k/, I've decided to make my summer project gun an AR pistol with home defense in mind. Below is an abbreviated list of significant components, thoughts?

Lower: forged
Upper: forged
BCG: TiNi or NiBr
Barrel: Daniels Defense 11.5 in, carbine length gas sytem.
Gas Block: PRI low profile aluminium block
Charging handle: AXTS ambi charging handle
Buffer: pistol tube with a heavy buffer and LAW tactical folding stock adapter (gen 3)
Handguard: Troy alpha rail (9 in)
Pistol Grip: MFT Engage, or Magpul K2
Trigger Group: Fostech Echo or Franklin Armory Binary Trigger
BUIS: Magpul MBUS or 45 degree canted XS Big Dots
White light: Streamlight TLR-1 HL
Foregrip: FAB Defense hand stop
Optic: Aimpoint T1-Micro
"Arm brace": SBX Pistol Brace
Muzzle Device: Kinitech muzzle brake with 13/16 x 16 thread to sound redirector sleeve
Bolt release: Troy Ambi bolt release
Sling: Botach Tactical single point

This is my first AR pistol build, if you've got advice on making one that doesn't suck, I'll take that too.

Get the Shockwave blade brace instead, it's better.

Don't get the Troy rail either, Troy is shit.

Also, the binary trigger is a meme and not practical.

Seems like the SBX because it offers a larger footprint on the butt would offer better recoil distribution, what makes the blade brace better?

I'm cannibalizing the alpha rail from another rifle so it's a free component, may as well use it, right?

Is there a better ambi bolt assist device out there? the troy seems to inspire more confidence than a magpul BAD because it's aluminium instead of plastic.

Their ambi device is fine and if you already have the rail that's okay. Troy are a bunch of statists, and shouldn't really be supported if you can avoid it. The Shockwave brace is more rigid which makes it function better as an "illegal SBR" but both are alright.
>>
>>29463921
huh, mind giving me a TL:DR on troy's statism? I hadn't heard of that before now.

Is the issue with their PAR or their NY/Cali compliant parts?
>>
>>29463921
"illegal SBR"
>"Arm brace"

does anyone actually use them as intended besides amputees?
>>
>>29463942
They hired one of the Ruby Ridge snipers and fully stand by him, in addition to hiring Jody Weis, a former CPD chucklefuck as an instructor.

>>29463975
You should never break the law, anon. It is illegal to use an arm brace as a stock, which is why the Shockwave brace is just a friction dependent brace and not a thin stock.
>>
>>29463991
wouldn't dream of breaking the law, anon. Not even in my wildest dreams.
>>
>>29463886
Got any advice on pistol grips with the steepest grip angle so it can be used effectively "secret service" style by pressing out against the sling for stability?
>>
>>29464029
The grips listed in the OP are both good.

Personally, I like both the MOE K and K2 but just about any steep grip will do.

use an a2 tube
perfectly legal to use and once youve tried it you realize you dont need any arm brace
works fine with any gas system no need to fuck around with buffer weights
less recoil nice lop

I do have a spare A2 buffer laying around, should be the same diameter so it can accept a brace, right?

Any input on the LAW side folding stock adapter? Seems like a good idea, but at the same time I worry about its effect on reliability.
>>
>>29464086
it wont take a brace unless you add a spacer the tubes slightly thinner
>>
>>29464121
alright, maybe some electrical tape or some closed cell foam would work for that.
