Where can I find a classic handguard for my sig 556 patrol? Would like to try something other than quad rail and fore grip, and sigs website appears to only have the full length hand guard.

I went to the range today and fired both a glock 26 and a glock 19, at a distance of maybe 15 meters at a 12x12 target, one of those ones with a large diamond in the middle and four smaller diamonds in the quadrants.

I didn't shoot very well at all, it was harder than I thought. I was consistently about four or five inches away from where I was aiming, usually low, and either right or left, there was no real consistency.

I understand basic pistol shooting posture and breathing, and I was switching up where I placed my finger on the trigger, but I just couldn't seem to get it. I shoot rifles plenty, so I get breathing and trigger control, but are there any other fundamental things I might be missing?

Hey guys, I have a Winchester model 94, it has a weird trigger mechanism, that I don't think is all that common, and I think I've managed to bungle it while putting it back together. Anyone with similar triggers like pic related know any solution? I can't just pull the trigger and release the hammer because I can't press the "safety" the gun has so it doesn't fire out of battery.

Do the hammers in break-barrel shotguns get cocked while opening or closing?

Do auto-ejecting break-barrel shotguns eject the rounds even if the havent been fired? Example:
>open
>load
>open again
Will the rounds eject or stay and eject only after firing? As in: is the ejection mechanism connected to the hammer mechanism or will they eject each time the gun is opened, regardless?
>>
>>29464212
Crossbow is far different than normal bows, and as such I don't really like it.l. I might as well use a gun over the crossbow. Also at least in California, they're stuck in the firearms season for deer, so they don't get the handicap the bow people have. I personally own a mission Craze, it's pretty good really, but I don't know much about other brands. One thing about bows is that every few years, yours is outdated. So it's best to just try them out if you can. Lastly the price can kinda jump out at you, as you'll probably see the price of the bow, and not the 50 dollar sights, the rest, and the trigger mechanism. Good luck to you!

>Aus fag here, can seppos own fully auto weaponry?
Yep.

>What restrictions are there on them?
It is illegal to manufacture or import new full-auto firearms outside some very specific circumstances (mostly dealer samples for registered dealers) as per the Hughes Amendment of 1986, so there is a limited number in circulation and they are very expensive. Additionally, they are regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934, which means you have to get a $200 tax stamp and permission from the federal ATF to buy one. Additionally, some states and cities prohibit them.

I'm trying to get my SO into shooting and asked for advice at LGS, the guy behind the counter said I should start her off with 9 mil hand gun. I brought up that I had heard 22 is better for complete noobs who are scared of firearms. He said 22 is no fun, and that if she shot 22, she might as well just shoot bb guns instead.

Was he just being a fag, or would 9 mil be a good starting point for a noob? I've never tried to introduce someone to guns before, and I started off with 5.56 in boot camp, and have limited experience with hand guns, so I feel like my view might be skewed.

I need a bolt action rifle for N. American game.

My father is very much into magnum loads and offered me his 700 BDL 7mm rem mag. I ofc can't say no to a free fun or my dad... But how fucked am I on recoil? I hate magnums. If he hadn't offered I'd have probably purchased a 6.5x55 Swede.
>>
>>29468176
Both. He was being a fag, but 9mm is far from a bad choice for beginners. In fact, most people choose 9mm as the next step up from .22LR.

To put it another way:
>.22LR = Tricycle
>9mm = Bicycle with training wheels
>Large calibers = Bicycle

If you want to fast-track your girlfriend's progress, starting with 9mm isn't going to to kill her, as long she is properly instructed.

The reason I ask is because I'm stocking up, I currently only have about 400 rounds give or take a few, and 70 of them are "practice rounds" and only fifty don't specify luger on the box.

Apparently it's after the Colt Commando or the CAR-15, they were the first M4 type rifles issued to the US Army in the latter part of Vietnam, after 'Nam they still issued it with various designations like smgs, open bolt saws. It was Colt trying to steal the shine from Armilite after Colt hado the rights for the AR name.

But this rifle was shorter than the modern M4 at 11.5 inches with a carbine length gas tube. But some of there other models like the Heavy Assault Rifle model used modified BAR bipods. My dick got pretty hard when they added this rifles cause I fletcher like it was such an over looked rifle of the Vietnam Era

buy a not $10 scope with a longer eye relief. seriously WTF, you bought a $400 .22 but won't splurge $60 on an offbrand 3-9x 40mm scope? Get your priorities in order, if that 20mm PoS fulfilled your purposes then you should have bought a 10/22 and spent the difference on a nikon prostaff 3-9x scope for it.
>>
>>29473066
It all depends on the rifle komrade, if you have a 5.56 barrel then you can safely shoot .223 and the same with a 7.62 AR can safely shoot .308. People will advise you to not shoot .223/.308 out of a 5.56/7.62 barrel and you probably should listen, there are slight differences with pressures and such that could harm you and your rifle over time and you dot want to risk that

Imaginary. They took a modern M4 style upper and made the rails flat to look more "old timey" and then they made the barrel closer to a 10.5 inch and filled in the birdcage (maybe because the artists based it off a picture with a dustcap).

It has a modern Troy iron sight (mounted backwards no less). That should be your clue they didn't give a fuck about making accurate models.

>>29474627
I don't even know what your half baked word salad is saying. The vidya rifle looks nothing like a classic style commando. It looks like an M4 that a nogunz artist tried to make "less advanced looking".
>>
I once talked to a guy who said he prefers to wax his gun over oiling it.

I can only assume that he means for the outer surface of his gun, and not the inner mechanics that make the gun work.

So two questions:
1. Is waxing your gun a good idea?
2. If it is, what kind of wax is good?

I would much rather ask him, but I only kind of met him in passing. Even if I could meet him again, for all I know he could be a quack.

Oil, boresnake or rod & patches, rags, q-tips, brass brush, cloth brush.

Look up YouTube for the specifics of what to disassemble and clean on your particular gun. Generally you want the barrel to be smooth and shiny when you look through it into light. And you want your extractor and not face especially clean.

I have a range date tomorrow with a qt3.14 Asian who's never been before.
I plan on bringing:
12 ga Maverick 88
7.62 Ak
Nugget
Sw model 17
Sw model 61
Walther P22
Mp shield 9mm
Ruger Blackhawk .45 LC

I'll be bringing both birdshot and buckshot for the shotgun, obviously starting her with the birdshot.
I plan on teaching her basics on the .22s and the AK, only going to bigger calibers if she likes it.
Any suggestions?

What's the big deal with the CMMG Mutant?

I thought it could switch between calibers and magazine types on the fly, but it just seems to be a AK made up like a modern AR. If that's what it is, well good, AKs need to modernize, but that name still doesn't make much sense to me.

I mean, why would you call a updated and modern version of so ething a mutant?

Any ideas what this is, exactly? I don't think it's a minie ball, it looks a little bit too big. I found it in one of my drawers this morning when cleaning, but I think it came from my great uncle who gave me a bag of them when I was younger. I measured it and it's 1 3/8" high and has a 15/32" diameter. Obviously it's a bullet, it's made of lead, and has crimp grooves. Not sure where to go from there.

Outers gun oil has proven time and time again it is literally the best rust preventative oil you can slather your guns in. Id suggest you buy the fat spray bottle off amazon for like $8. The oil bottle that comes with the kit will last you quite a while too. You dont want it dripping off, but you want it on there nice and thick. Dont fall for the expensive snake oil trick when it comes to cleaning supplies. A fuckhueg 16 or 20oz spray bottle of Breakfree CLP is like $24, and will literally last you a lifetime. The only real expense comes with buying bore brushes. fuckers are like $2-3 a piece, and you always buy one size up, and make sure you stroke it through and through before reversing direction. They only last as long as you can remember that. If you have a 9mm, a 38 chamber brush is great. it also tends to work in .40's but a .45 brush works as well. I usually see it as .223 brush, .38 chamber brush (it is a bit hard to push, however, and a bit long), and .45 brushes, oh, and a 12ga 'tornado' brush if you have a 12ga. Q-tips are your best friend when cleaning. Also, one of those stupid "You won a free car" keys they send you in the mail fits perfectly inside slide rails. Just make sure you wrap it in 2 layers of cloth, and dont grind through it pushing too hard. Brass toothbrush is your best friend. You really dont need a plastic one, bc most shit wipes right off. anything else you use the brass brush until it flakes off.

so to recap:
Outers universal cleaning kit
Pistol brushes in .38 chamber brush, .40 and .45
rifle brush in .223
12GA 'tornado' brush
And if you really wanna spend money on lube, buy a big tube of TW-25b, and use it sparingly.

Dont bother buying a USP in 9mm, compact or otherwise. you are literally nerf'ing yourself in capacity. USP45 or USP40C are the only two logical options. Best gun for 9mm is Glock19, followed by old 1st gen P99 with orange follower 16rd mags. I've heard the new gen p99 will not accept the old 16rd mags due to slightly different barrel feed ramp.

Thinking of buying a revolver as my first gun, I'm looking at a revolver chambering .38 Special.

Whats the difference between .38 Special and .357 magnum? Which is better?
>>
>>29483873
buy the .357, so you can shoot both ammo types. if you shoot .357 in a .38, you gonna blow your hand off.

although idk why you want a .38, it is less effective than 9x19
>>
>>29483873
38 special is a soft load and the 357 is a heavy load

I would suggest getting a revolver chambered in 357 that way you can safely fire the 38 special out of it meanwhile be able to fire the 357

The 38 special revolver is not safe to fire any calibers that isn't a 38 special due to the way the revolver was designed

It has a 656 style early flattop upper.Keep in midn these were not common at all.

the actual weapon is based on a mix of that and a colt CAR15 nicknamed commano for its short 10.5 inch barrel.

Keep in mind osme of these came in 14.5 inch barrels similar to the m4 as there were many models. There was not however a flat top car15 that i know of.
>>
I have a new 357 revolver, and I tried running a bore snake through it and found it to take a really large amount of strength to actually get it through. Is this normal? At one point it got stuck and I had to use a VERY large amount of force.
>>
>>29463505
I'm pretty confused by this. Near the chamber of my Ithaca 37s barrel, I discovered these somewhat deep scratches when I was cleaning the bore.

What's confusing was that the day I discovered them I had got done shooting 00 Buck through it a few hours earlier.

Does 00 Buck do this? I used the right type of ammunition through the gun, I can't see why 00 Buck would scratch the bore like that.

is it even a good idea to convert a pistol to a rifle if it's reloaded with a piston? say you want to convert a pap or other ak pistol to rifle length, won't the increased distance from the end of the barrel to the end of the muzzle device create a loss in energy? they sell knockoff optics and rails and shit, at really cheap prices.
like 4x acogs for 250 dollars or less.
are they a scam? i've seen their shit at a bunch of shows but I don't wanna bite the bullet yet.

Does a long stroke piston affect accuracy when firing on semi-auto? My understanding of the situation is that the mass of the piston as it travels shifts the rifle's center of gravity as it travels, which reduces accuracy. But does this matter on semi auto? Doesn't the round leave the barrel before the piston starts to move?

If you have any recommendations that'd be great. I want something inexpensive but not so cheap it's crap.

Free float? You lost me.
>>
>>29493845
No, it starts to move before the bullet leaves. Not much, but it does move
>>
>>29493848
Free float, like, the handguard doesn't touch the barrel. It's supposed to increase accuracy slightly. As for recommendations, I bought a cheap one off eBay, cause I didn't know I'd like one, spent $55. Wish I'd gone a little better. Utg is supposed to be okay. Midwest industries is nice for also being considered lower end

What caliber pistol should I bring into bear country?
>>
>>29493857
Does it move enough to appreciably affect accuracy?
>>
>>29493848
Also, if you go drop in, you'll have to change the barrel nut. Which means you'll need a tool, or have a gunsmith do it. If you do a drop in two piece quad rail, you'll be able to do everything at home.

Anyone?

Accuracy is really about consistency. So, it doesn't matter if it moves, it just has to move exactly the same way for ultimate accuracy. There are very accurate semi autos, but you have to spend a lot more on a semi auto to equal a single shot action, like bolt for example
>>
>>29493930
I didn't even know that was a thing, so I can't help you, or I would
>>
>>29493918
I took note about the free float.

But what do you mean by drop-in? Can I buy ones that I don't have to modify my barrel nut? Sorry if my questions are noobish. It's my uncertainty that has kept me from buying.

Is the AUG a worthwhile rifle to get? I'm looking for a bullpup and I like the aesthetic better than others. What model is generally the best and has the most afternarket parts?
>>
>>29494012
Hey, it's totally okay, and you're smart because you know you don't know, and are correcting it. And yes, drop in means no notifications needed. And jsyk, changing the barrel nut isn't hard if you have the tools, and follow the proper steps. That said, if you don't have the tool, it's probably better if you just have a gunsmith do it.

Honestly, the largest caliber you can comfortably shoot.
>>

500 magnum is only choice

>Is the AUG a worthwhile rifle to get?
Its a nice rifle, trigger can be improved with a trigger tamer as well
>What model is generally the best and has the most afternarket parts?
The one with all the rails, because you can put all sorts of shit on the rails. There really isnt an after market for augs other than the nato stock and caliber conversions

So, would .45 auto work?
What about 357 magnum?
>>
>>29494122
For bears, 45lc, 454 casull, 44 magnum.
>>
>>29494064

Alright.

Thanks for all the info anon, most appreciated. I posted that question once in the AR general thread and it was just ignored as they rubbed each other's boners.
>>
>>29494148
I don't have a .44 but I plan on purchasing one eventually. So I don't know if they make different types of tips

Is there anything specific I should load for bear defense? Fmj, HP, certain grain?

I need to clean out the cosmoline in this Yugo mauser bayonet. I can't get the frog off without damaging the leather. Is boiling water ok with leather or will it be deformed?

Ar threads make me regret buying ars. And you're welcome. Make sure you read specific reviews on the handguard you're looking at
