You will not get sent to language school as a new officer, that route is only for enlisted. Very, very few officers go to language school.

Be aware that Army OCS is competitive to get in and to actually graduate. If you fail OCS you will remain enlisted in an MOS of the Army's choosing for the remainder of your contract.

I lied about not being diagnosed with ADHD, and I've signed my contract already. 74D.

How long do I have before they catch onto my shit and I get kicked the fuck out? My legal record is spotless, so do I have a chance that they MAY let me stay in if I do performed admirably in my work before they found out?
>>
>>29462913

>74D
>>
>>29462918
Seriously? I saw that 74D (Chemical specialist or whatever the acronym is, can't remember) requires SECRET clearance or whatever. You're telling me that they wouldn't find out about that diagnosis through a background check?

Or are you saying that my chances of being allowed to stay in are pretty much non-existant.
>>
>>29462944
secret is pretty basic clearance
i got one no biggie they wont probe too deep so youre probably in the clear with something as inane as ADHD
why would you pick 74D though? you dont do shit
>>
>>29462944
Nearly every MOS requires a secret clearance.

You'll be fine.

Well, no, you'll be a 74D, so you won't be fine. But you won't get caught.
>>
>>29462699
AF fusion analysts come to mind. 1N4 if I recall.
>>
>>29462965
It was either that or some water treatment MOS. Keep in mind that I'm enlisting in army reserves as a junior in high school, so my choices weren't exactly astounding. (Even with a 76 ASVAB and 110 line score). My plan is to transition to active duty once I finish my senior year, although I'm reading that it will be a bitch to do. (If you have any info on that or the split-op program, it would be greatly appreciated, by the way).

Anyway, chemical experience is actually pretty useful for me as I'm planning on doing firefighting after my contract is up. Got like 6 generations of firefighters in my family line. It's legitimately a family tradition at this point.
>>
>>29462982
Cancer isn't a biggie to me. I've already exposed myself to enough heavy metals and unhealthy substances that my cells are little ticking time bombs. And wearing charcoal suits and sweating my balls off while telling people to beware the smell of almonds sounds bretty fun.

Speaking of clearances, when I was going through ranger training, we had to fill out paperwork. Some bullshit about top secret nonsense. I entered my information and let it be. I assume I passed since six months later I was still a Ranger. Afterward, I entered the super secret world of LRS. Thank fuck I had security clearance.. They eye-balled me up and down. Eventually, I joined and became a team leader.

How difficult is it to get a Commander's Nomination to USMA?

I've got a pretty shit GPA in high school, so I'm thinking my best shot of going to West Point is Active Duty.

>Daily reminder to never become a grunt, an MP, navy NUKE, or AF SF.

Now that that's out of the way, I got diagnosed with chronic depression and anxiety a year and a half ago and got put on medication.

Only the diagnosis was bogus and my medication didn't even fit the initial diagnosis upon review. 1.5 years later with no symptoms of whatever the hell was happening, do you think a letter from my primary doctor explaining the screw up and vouching for my health will sway an AF recruiter to not immediately show me the trash when I talk about getting a background check intensive 1N related AFSC?

How would y'all suggest I approach this?
>>

if you can get your doctor to sign a note that says you are of fit mind and body and that the previous diagnosis was a mistake, you should be good

Is right. You can talk to your recruiter to see if you can change MOS, but if not you are under no obligation to show up for your ship date. You can bail during DEP, even without informing the recruiter.

You're not deploying in the NG unless we are going balls out against a target. However, if you get your wings and are Infantry your chances of seeing combat is greatly improved. Shoot for the 82nd or the 75th. Both units tend to deploy before everyone else. btdt

I guess you're right.

But It's not like I don't have strong opinions. I just find arguments a waste of energy.
For instance,
I like Trump, friends love Bernie. Cant convince them to like Trump. "Lets just agree to disagree, theres no reason to argue" Because there really isn't any. I hate arguments about politics. People are so stubborn.
I'm like, make sure people are doing their jobs around the house also, so I get people trying to weasel their way around responsibility. They argue with me all the time. "I already did this, I'm not going to be here that day, fuck you dude, *uninterpretable garble*
I dont really argue, because they know what their job is. I dont make mistakes either. So I tell them to do their jobs or get reprimanded later by leadership.

I guess I should say I'm not an angry person. Dont you need to be angry in the military?
Kasich is a nice guy, at least on tv. Which is what I was referring to.

First isn't more.

Because they normally have the responsibility for the GRF, they deploy much less, as they have to keep a brigade in reserve in case of a new conflict. That's why 10th MTN is the most deployed division to Afghanistan and 3ID the most deployed division to Iraq.

There are countless macros and screen shots that I don't have, but I'll summarize the best I can. Tech school is literally being stuck for weeks on end in bright fluorescent class rooms constantly learning and studying the intricacies of nuclear physics and power plant operation. Once in the fleet you are on the bottom of the totem poll, even though you have an important job. You will be dangerously over worked and under appreciated for the entire time of your service, assuming you don't an hero or suffer a psycho breakdown which occurs at an alarmingly higher rate among nukes. As one nuke put it only those with a special kind of autism makes it, and the other nukes that have been here all say your soul isn't worth the money.

It's a badge, not a ribbon. It's also a requirement as per your normal qualifications, so you are getting a shooting badge no matter what. And marksman is the lowest qual you can receive.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter for somebody right out of training what their qual is, it only affects promotion points or if you want to switch to a recon platoon (which as a new guy you will be denied). Your badge level changes every time you re-qual anyway.

I think it is even worse in the Marine Corps due to the promotion system. You not only have a mission critical job, but you have to run faster and shoot better than 99% of the Marine Corps just to be considered on the same level as your peers in other jobs.

There is a reason why 59xx retention is like 5% or whatever hilarious number it is at now.

>>
>>29467544
They do sometimes. They shouldn't tho.
>>
>>29467475

So what is "deployed qrf?"
>>
>>29467576
Basically you're on call in case some convoy/patrol gets into heavy contact or the fob gets attacked.

Usually rolling out of the gate within 10 minutes of the call
>>
>>29467576
Deployed QRF = Everyone is already deployed, you're a small element tasked with being able to throw your shoes on and get out the door to the fight in a few minutes.

Global QRF = Large stateside element (like a BDE) tasked with being able to deploy an entire fighting force to a hotspot in the globe within a day or two.

Same concept, vastly different scales.
>>
>>29467599

The only time I was on a fob was in Kandahar in 04, so I assume the Army convoys were the Army's responsibility; maybe "deployed qrf" was a thing when I was in also.

Cardio and bodyweight stuff will be the most relevant. If you're already in even mediocre shape, it probably doesn't matter what you do.

You can try and maintain during basic so long as you're creative about the lack of equipment. My battlebuddy would do handstand pushups against a wall locker at night, pullups on the door frame of the latrine, dips on the edge of a bunk, etc. Depending on your branch and unit, there may be kettle bells and the like available.

It's not the best, but it's better than only doing the mandatory PT stuff, which is varying levels of not challenging depending on your branch of service.
>>
>>29470214

Navy? Marine Corps?

If Marine Corps then you should be okay so long as you are good with your pull ups. You'll be doing a couple circuit courses with weights but all those muscle groups will get covered by pull/chin ups.

Hey guys, I want to join Army national guard to pay for college and to serve country, have a couple questions. If I go to out of state college, will the government pay for that school if I join the national guard of the state where the college is located? If everyone in the national guard is part time, who the fuck guards the bases and stays there? Who defends cities as riot guard? Military police or Infantry? What do Military Police do in National Guard? Also, I really want to join for good memories and shit, and if theres a war or something and if I live to be 70 I want to look back at me in those vintage war photos. I know that sounds gay and shit, but it would be cool. Anyway, thanks to whoever wants to answer.
>>
>>29471209
Usually multiple gyms on any post.

You can't have guns in barracks on post, you have to store them in your unit arms room or off post. You can shoot in your free time. Some posts have ranges on post that you can shoot private weapons on.
>>
>>29471209
Usually multiple gyms on large based, always at least one.

If you have guns and live in the barracks, they go in the arms room or off-post storage. If you live off post it's just normal laws for your area.
>>
>>29471281
Part time units usually have an Armory with a couple full time personnel. If there's an active duty post nearby then they'll just use a building on the post so they don't have to guard it.

The other stuff you mentioned (riots/disasters)are temporary activations.

I want the federal government to decriminalize marijuana so I can join the military without lying
:*(
>>
>>29472016
Even if the decriminalize or fully legalize it it doesn't mean the military will allow its members to.
>>
>>29472016
Just because marijuana is decriminalized doesn't mean that the military would want or accept people who used it.
>>
>>29472042
>even if it's fully legalized it doesn't mean the military will allow its members to

Literally why wouldn't they? What's the difference between an off-duty soldier drinking and an off-duty soldier smoking?

Oh, wait, I can name at least one difference: The one smoking is less likely to go out and rape a local.
>>
>>29472064
You can either stop smoking and wait till it is all out of your system and join the military, or you can accept that they dont want people who smoke weed and stay where you are and keep smoking to your hearts content. That is just the way it is.
>>
>>29472064
"people who smoked cannabis four or more days of the week over many years ended up in a lower social class than their parents, with lower-paying, less skilled and less prestigious jobs than those who were not regular cannabis smokers. These regular and persistent users also experienced more financial, work-related and relationship difficulties, which worsened as the number of years of regular cannabis use progressed."

“Our study found that regular cannabis users experienced downward social mobility and more financial problems such as troubles with debt and cash flow than those who did not report such persistent use,” she said. “Regular long-term users also had more antisocial behaviors at work, such as stealing money or lying to get a job, and experienced more relationship problems, such as intimate partner violence and controlling abuse.”

"While both heavy alcohol and cannabis use were similarly associated with declines in social class, antisocial behaviors in the work place and relationship problems, the authors found that those dependent on cannabis experienced more financial difficulties, such as paying for basic living expenses and food, than those who were alcohol dependent."

Because it's the military and they can tell you what the fuck their members can and cannot fucking do. If the Top Brass don't want their men and women to light up, then they will not allow it, and there is reason for it.

You would have to be retarded to think allowing marijuana is going to fix even one of the Militarys current issues.

>>
>>29472199
There is no reason to unban it, and they already have to deal with people drinking so it makes no sense to ad in another problem.
>>
>>29472064

One issue is that there isn't anything as reliable as the breathalyzer paradigm when it comes to marijuana. There's not a good way to quickly and effectively test if you've used marijuana within the last few hours. A piss test takes quite a while to come back and wouldn't really help determine if you were still impaired or simply smoked last weekend.
>>

Can you join the military if you have poor vision?

I'm nearsighted (can only see clearly for like 5~ inches in front of me).

I know someone who was former military that had even worse vision than that though.
>>
>>29472241
What is it correctable to?
>>
>>29472236

Most people who join the Army spend most of their career at one of a few giant stateside posts. A few will get to go to Korea/Hawaii, even fewer might get to go to Germany or Italy.

The Army, as a whole, does not do a lot of travel. Expect to see such great locales as "the middle of nowhere, Georgia", "the middle of nowhere, Texas", and everyone's favorite, "the middle of nowhere, Kansas".
>>
>>29472262
Ah, thanks.
What should I join of I just wanna travel around and shoot rag heads?
>>
>>29472364

Pretty much nobody is shooting ragheads right now. If you want to travel join a seagoing rate in the Navy or an Air Force AFSC that flies a lot.
>>
>>29472138
But I'm someone (I made the comment about decriminalizing marijuana) who has NOT smoked habitually. I would say I only smoked a couple of times per month throughout highschool and quit after I graduated.
And even still, I would have to lie about how many times I smoked or lie about smoking in the first place just to get into the military.
Weed is NOT a big deal unless you smoke an obscene amount, i.e daily.
>>
>>29472395

You wouldn't have to lie, you'd just have to get a waiver. The likelihood of getting that waiver depends on how badly they need people at the time.
>>
>>29472392
Different anon here, but how true is this >>29468820 ? Half the reason I want to join the Navy is for the travel, but I want to actually see things, even if it's just a week at port.
>>
>>29472537

You will definitely see more of the world if you actually deploy in the Navy. Just make sure you pick a rate that actually goes to sea.

There's a risk that you end up spending most of your contract assigned to a vessel that is under maintenance though.

Honestly, the best way to see the world regardless of branch is to save your money and use some of your 30 days of leave to go vacation somewhere. You might even be able to get a free flight with Space-A travel.

Anybody here a recruiter?

So I'm thinking about leaving USAR and going active duty after my deployment in 2017. I'll probably still be an E4 but I'll be very close to making E5.

1) Could I go active duty without any issues if I start the process while as an E4
2) Would I be allowed to see my likely duty station before fully committing? Basically I have a few places in mind but if I don't get one of them, I don't want to go active.
>>
>>29474334

1) No, you have to get a conditional release from your USAR unit, then talk to an active duty recruiter about getting into one of the few MOSs that allow prior service.

2) Best they're going to be able to do is see where students in that MOS are currently projected to go after AIT. That could completely change by the time you graduate. Unless you're going into an MOS with an extremely small pool of possible assignment locations, you probably won't have any idea where you're going to end up.

inb4 you are a massive weeb and want to go active duty just so you can get stationed in Japan.
>>
>>29474393

I've expressed interest in it to my unit and they've basically told me if I ever made that decision, they'd do everything in their power to make it happen. Thanks for the info, it sounds like too much work anyways. I suppose that line of thinking is what landed me in USAR anyways

>inb4 you are a massive weeb and want to go active duty just so you can get stationed in Japan.

I was recently told by a former active duty now reservist Army Sergeant that it would be better to go enlisted reserves instead of officer after I graduate for the security clearance and more hands on training as opposed to being "an administrator" as he called being an officer.

While I'm totally willing to believe that he was just buttmad and trolling you, he has a legitimate point depending on your goals.

If you're going reserves to pick up clearance and a little experience for a DOD contracting job, enlisting is definitely the better option. You can guarantee something like MI w/ a good clearance, unlike commissioning and getting your job picked for you (possibly only with a Secret).

Yes, officers get paid a lot better...but since you're only getting paid a couple of days a month the difference isn't going to be nearly as drastic as Active Duty.
