Why does /k/ love pic related so much, and why is it still in use amongst professional militaries? It's a fifty-year-old bolt-action rifle made of wood for chrissakes. Surely there are better weapons that /k/ommandos can agree are fantastic?
Not bait, genuinely asking.
>>29461564
Because for a while they were dirt cheap, and decently accurate for the price. Plus, it's a neat gun if you like history. Mine's stamped as Tula from 1942. That plant got evacuated in 1941 during operation Barbarosa and the machines moved to a secondary site further east near the ivastek plant. There's a high likelyhood my rifle saw action on the eastern front and I can still fire it today.
>>29461751
1937 Tula here. Both the stock and receiver are covered in proof marks. Is there any way to tell where they're from or what they mean?
>>29461564
Was cheap, fires one hell of a round, there were millions made.
You can convert it to semi auto
>>29461564
it's actually a 125 year old rifle anon, just updated in 1930 and 1944 and utilized by the Finns in several variants.
>Y tho?
Because it works when it comes to utilization as a sniper rifle in Easter Blok countries
Because it's cheap as shit and works when it comes to middle Eastern rebel groups
Also because it's chambering became one of the most common machinegun calibers in the dune coon and Slavic world.
>>29461845
...how?
>>29461564
/k/ fucking hates these now
the mememagic wore off as soon as they cost over $150 and for good reason
>>29461857
I wish I knew, but I neither have the vodka, nor the skill to machine a semi auto mosin, take this instead.
>>29461857
Buy 5 when they were $50 each, sell them now and get an AR15.
>>29461564
Because it used to be that you could buy one and like 1000 rounds for less than 200 bucks.
>>29461564
People like milsurp typically because they like the history behind it.
Still one of the cheapest milsurp rifles available, and definitely the cheapest "good" milsurp rifle (accurate, ammo relatively easy to find, reliable)
I dont know any other milsurp rifle you can find unissued or in nearly unissued condition for under $400.
I'm not crazy about model 91's or 91/30's but I love the M39.

>implying wood is worse than aesthetic
The made millions, dirt cheap in price, and doesn't suck.
>>29461845
i remember an english book about soviet prototype firearms wich included a semi auto mosin, if i remember well the rifle was using a blow back action
>>29461865
>>le /K/ is one person
when will this meme die
>>29461774
I remember googling it and found a website that took you through an option list based on proofmarks, barrel type, length, and stock type. Got a rough estimate from that because my date stamp was so faint and rough. Only noticed it one day when cleaning it in the sunlight.

It's 7.62x54r.net
This is basic shit here. Get back in the kitchen Melody.

1933 here, love my nugget
Doesn't even have a proper bayonet holder. You just stick it on the barrel backwards
>>29461564
fucking Underwood and this 50 year bull shit
> Kill yourself my man
Off topic question,
How do I get a bayonet to fit on the rifle without dicking up the bluing? I'm thinking a long iron punch but I'm worried about dicking up the bluing on the bayonet.
>>29461564
Because they are Anthony Burch approved.
>>29461564
>he doesnt like wood stocks
what a pleb
>>29464064
I got a '33 as well out of tula, hex reciever and wut not.
>>29461564
>50 years old
its called a 91/30 because its a rifle originally made in 1891 and modified in 1930
>>29462105
>blow back action
It would have to be stupidly heavy to not burn your face off.
>>29464182
Is it just me, or do they shoot better with the bayonet on?
Also, running on the assumption that your pic is you, it's a great pose. Would you consider, however, having your nutsack hanging out of your shorts instead of your dong? I can't explain it but I just feel like that pic calls for a nutsack.
Why not post one of mine
>>29464159
Oh, I like the. They're aesthetically pleasing and could be used as a handy bludgeon in a pinch. But mass production means you're going to have to get machines specifically for cutting wood instead of more machines for the actual gun part.
>>29461751

I will take your words into consideration next time. this photo wasn't planned it just happen by fluke.
yeah I agree the bayonet makes a good counter weight.

Gud year 4 nuggets.
1927 Izhesk here.
The mosin is fun, reasonably accurate and reliable. It's low price tag means it's a good starting rifle, and the ammo is cheap and plentiful. It's got history and character. Finally, it has many side uses such as fishing pole, tent pole, oar, poking obnoxious low-flying drones, stopping a cavalry charge, splint for broken legs, skewering wooly mammoths with your cro-magnon bros and repel the wehrmacht from your rightful clay.
I think there's a poll that shows like 1/3rd of us have one.

Another one of mine
>>29469160
How did you manage to grab the first one ? Awesome find there.
Any place I can get one cheap these days?
>>29469212
Check gun shows but it'll be tough to find one for under $200, especially if you want matching serial numbers on all parts.
>>29469212
This is about as good as it gets these days.

Early Izhevesk
>>29472529
wow I just ordered some Izhevesk stripper clips how convenient, thanks
>>29472645
On the subject of stripper clips, anybody else have trouble using them?
Maybe I just got some shitty ones or something. I've got 10, and a few of them I can slide the rounds down into the magazine no problem. But the rest of them, the rounds are stuck hard when I try to push them down, even though they slide in and out easily when I don't have it positioned in the feeder.
