I'm a vet. It would feel weird not to have a kit.
Plus, America isn't as immune to internal strife as people like to think. So I view it as important to be prepared to respond to any events that may occur, with violence, if necessary.

I wear it when I'm shooting out in bumfuck nowhere, but not at the local range because that would be beyond faggy.

>>
>>29461439
I do reloading and transition drills at home. I also work on moving from a standing position to prone to kneeling and back. Getting used to the extra weight of gear is a big part of it. Also practice aiming from behind cover while leaning. For most people who don't train regulalry usually lose their balance due to the extra weight. You can also run in your gear to get used to that. There are plenty of things you can do at home to get better with your gear that don't involve actually having to fire your weapon.

Or Oper8n in an urban environment.

I used to play airsoft as a kid and I remember this one game where it was just this other guy and myself guy being hunted by everyone else around an old factory. Anyway, as you can imagine there was a lot of shootn'-n-scootn' and when we'd be spotted we had to bug out pretty sharpish.
Why am I telling you this? Well for me, being young and short, didn't have an issue when careering around unknown corners and down catwalks. The chap I was with however, ran straight into a low hanging industrial metal pipe at full pelt, his head stayed put and the rest of him kept travelling. Needless to say he knocked himself unconscious.

The point is that accidents happen, and we can't always be 100% aware of our surroundings. If you're running through doorways and up/down steps or uneven ground with hard places around, it's worth protecting your noggin.

Get a skate board helmet for like $30, save for a ballistic one if you can.

Depends if you have the money for gucci or not. Crye airframes are expensive but cool, team Wendy carbon or exfil. All those are high cut ones. If you want full some generic MICH or ACH, 6b7, 6b47, zsh1, zsh1-2, those, all full cut. I really like ruski helmets because they range from crye airframe tier weight and protection to heavy entry helmets like zsh or TIGs.

What do you want to do with it?

I want it for a SHTF kit and although I'm not expecting to get shot I'd like a bit more protection. I also live in a hurricane/tornado prone area and having a helmet can help protect from debris and shit.
>>
>>29462151
So to put it simply I want something that will offer protection while not weighing a metric ton if it has to be work for long periods.
>>
>>29462170
get an ACH and put some Team Wendy pads in it. that's what I did and sometimes I forget I'm wearing it.
whatever you do just don't get a protec, they're uncomfortable and provide poor protection.

It's a bitch-and-a-half to install a J-arm.

The fit is tight as fuck, there's no rattling around between the mount, shroud, and arm.

Only problem is the fit on any shroud is really fucking tight, so keep your shroud clean or it won't snap in like it's supposed to.
>>
>>29462351
yeah I noticed it was a bit tight on the shroud connection, I saw the helmet flexing because of how much force I needed to apply to snap it in. I put a little bit of gun oil in the spring loaded mechanism and it's much smoother now.

though I'm glad to hear they don't wobble like the original rhino. I'd hate to put bungees and shit on my helmet but we'll see.

Does anyone have experience with Tactical Tailor shit? Seems like good quality for a good price but I haven't been able to actually see any of it in person.
>>
Damn, I didn't even realize I needed a battle belt until now. I bought some mag pouches and a molle holster, thinking I could rig it on my Maxpedition pack.

Turns out there's nowhere to fit them on my pack. But the pack rides really high, so there's a perfect space on my lower back for a battle belt...

Do these battle belts attach easily to the bottom of a backpack? Is that what they're designed for? I don't want to do the suspenders attachments. I'd rather it strap to the bottom of my bag and rest on my waist.

Does this seem like an appropriate way to use one of these?

On mine, I have my mag pouches one link of webbing higher so they're more on my torso rather than sinking down into my abdomen, which leaves me with very little room above the pouches, so I keep it clear other than velcro patches. I also run a KDH Soldier Plate Carrier System, though, which doesn't velcro over the two normal flaps of the cummerbund, but instead attaches to two clips on each side of the front. Normally, one would want to keep the area above your mags clear so you have an unobstructed path for you to pull during reloads.
>>
>>29460570
I'm really digging that setup.

Got some info on that harness?
>>
>>29467459
I really like that rig. Is that just for mags and misc or is it also for a plate carrier? Sorry this is my first attempt at queering myself up. I just want to assemble a basic kit for shtf and I like utilitarian approach to it without bullshit that I don't need. I need something for mags, my pistol, water and first aid kit. I prefer non flashy things. I have a backpack and boots already. Would condor be acceptable for my minimal and limited needs?
>>
>>29467151
I have a few. It is well designed but some of the pouches are built to save weight at the cost of some durability. 500 d codura and the like. That said, even the lighter stuff has never failed on me.
>>29467375
Battle belts are designed to be worn as either a stand alone belt or linked with suspenders. They are not meant to replace a hip belt on a ruck. Eagle Industries makes very low profile suspenders designed to go under a PC.
>>
>>29467985
With this load out I'm going to keep the three central pouches but I'm undecided if I will get the velcro ones or the elasticated staps, on the sides, a medical pouch on my right, random utility on my left the two separate mag pouches, the one on the right I'm removing for a TQ pouch and on the left I'm thinking of swapping that for a suppressor pouch, with holster, pistol mags and dump pouch on my belt.

I would say don't get Condor mate, is awful quality stuff. Buy once, cry once.

as >>29467615 said the pic is a Warrior Assault Systems (usually referred to just as "Warrior" or "WAS") DCS.
It's a plate carrier and can hold both soft and hard armour front, back, and sides. Made and designed by a British company based in Hereford (UK), it should give you an idea who this gear is primarily meant for and made by. They also won the LAPD contract a year or two ago, so that's what LA cops are all using.

Condor will do the job on keeping plkates in place and giving you something to attach mag pouches on, but it will also fall apart on you pretty sharpish, I'd go with something more durable. I have an old Warrior PC, similar to the gladius I see being posted occasionally, it still looks new (minus some MOLLE stretching) after 6 years, and I bought it second hand.

Also if you're new to this, you may be tempted to purchase AR500 plates, don't. They're easily defeated by common rounds (5.56 for e.g.). Look around and you can get a decent pair of ceramics provided you're in the states

My experience with Tactical Tailor has always been positive. I was issued their MALICE pack at the time when the Army still used ALICE, and the pack was a well thought out and durable upgrade on the ALICE pack.

The split front MAV served me very solidly when I needed stand alone loadbearing gear.

Their pouches are similarly solid.

AR500 vs sapi? what's the word on this?

Real question is: SAPI, or level 4(standalone/ICW)?

SAPI it is then, where does one purchase quality plates?
>>
>>29468846
As they're *ahem* "acquired" military items, eBay might be your best bet.
Also check sites like gunbroker and any firearm forums. I've taken to scouring airsoft forums for gear, although non-buggered eSAPI's may be hard to come by on those

Haha, fair enough

Is there a common price point for a pair of plates?

they are okay.
however in today's industry they are neither innovative (Crye, Tyr, First Spear) nor timeless (LBT, Eagle) save for a select few of their designs that they were the first to get right, like their grenadier belt.

Can you gear queers tell me what would be like a good "Starter pack" of gear if you were just running a standard carbine and pistol? Whats the must have stuff?
>>
>>29467962
C-c-Condor!

Battle belt + h-harness.
>>
>>29469573
a good belt and a cheap chest rig.
>>
>>29469573
Ammo and water ultimately

Get a decent chest rig (ChiCom, M83, Other milsurp)
Something to put water in (Nalgene bottle, Hydration pack (Camelback is shit, go Source))
Maybe a belt for pistol mags
>>
>>29469419
Pistol belt and a battle belt?
>gee anon
>>
>>29469573
evaluate what you want to carry and how much of it
I'd start off with a nice, sturdy gunbelt
carry 2 pistol mags, 1 rifle mag, your FAK, and your pistol on it
I'd highly recommend having a signal mirror, flashlight and multitool on it as well
padded warbelts are not necessary, they are not any more comfortable.
I have a tyr tactical gunbelt and so does blucarpet, I highly recommend them.

only buy more kit than that if you feel it is neccessary
>>
I have back problems and can't carry much, probably 10-12kg on my shoulders is the limit. How fucked gear-wise am i?
>>
>>29470380
Belts and micro chest rigs for you. I fucked my shoulder up good and that's all I've been wearing. While the plate carrier causes flare-ups after 5 mins, I can wear the micro rig for hours.

The two are not meant to go together. The belt is general-use for range, innawoods or w/e. The vest is specifically for use at my cabin so I can carry more shit on me when out innawoods.

I was getting tired of dragging a loaded vest around everywhere. The belt can be stowed in a pack, while the vest cant.
>>
>>29472689
That would make a good SVD rig. Each of those holds 1 SVD mag.
