I am a massive CoD tacticool faggot that has recently been bitten by the fudd bug and wish to waste money in that direction.

>What are some quintessential high quality firearms to look at that are robust enough for the field but beautiful enough to hang over the mantle?

I think my first poor decision will be a Sako 85 bavarian carbine in .308

I'd look for one of the old pump shotguns. Winchester Model 97 and 12, Ithaca 37, Remington Model 31, Stevens 520.
All of these guns existed in both plain field types and high grade models, they all exhibit wonderful craftsmanship and are durable firearms, the Stevens 520 is a bit of a goober compared to the rest because of its odd receiver profile but it has an ingenious takedown mechanism and is a JMB design.
The FN/Browning Auto-5 and Remington Model 11 are two others that are classic firearms, one is just a license built version of the other but they are pretty iconic and if adjusted properly can take a remarkable amount of punishment.
As far as rifles I would actually look for one of the older FN commercial Mausers or even the Husqvarna 640/1640, all 98 pattern rifles with solid construction and pretty affordable still. If you don't mind looking around you could try to find a Mauser 'guild gun', these are 1890-1930's era European sporting rifles and are little treasure troves of nearly forgotten features. Not uncommon to find guild guns with ribbed barrels, double set triggers, express sights, and carved horn trigger guards.

Just remembered, a very good option for a sporting rifle if you don't want to shell out for a Model 70 is the Remington Model 30. Built off Model of 1917 Enfield receivers they are an incredibly robust rifle and actually quite stylish, if a bit bulkier than their counterparts. I have a 1940 production Model 30S Express with a Weaver 330 M.8 that is an absolute dream to shoot and quite accurate.

.357 and .44 magnum are great to pair with a revolver in the same caliber.
between 30-30 and 45-70 both are expensive and powerful, so you might as well get 45-70. it's just much more impressive to shoot.
>>
>>29451691
My first gun was a sbs 870 with an AR stock, then a XD.40 tactical then a MK23 and things just kept going like that...

thank you.
CoD was after my time but as a kid I did like tacticool guns and airshit. when I did start buying guns for myself I decided I preferred wood and steel, since the aluminum and plastic ones looked and felt too much like toys.

as for the leverguns, I like the smoothness of the 1873 action more than that of the 1892 and 1886. I also like the look of the case hardened finish. I like the crescent buttplate, semi pistol grip, and long octagon barrel of the 1886. 45-70 and 44 mag are more impressive to shoot, but 357/38 is much cheaper to shoot. plus while I love the tang peep sight, I'd hesitate to use one on a rifle with much kick.
pic related is pretty much my ideal. too bad it wasn't out yet when I was shopping for mine.

If you have shitloads of money you should buy a genuine safari double rifle in .375 H&H magnum or bigger from Holland and Holland or James Purdy and Sons.

Get them to cut you fancy pictures of Elephant Hunts or whatever you dream up on the metal work, which they do.

Cost you 80,000 or so but will be a jaw dropper show piece that can also be taken out to the bush.

More realistically, if you like .308 Winchester, you should be able to find a good repeater for 700 to 2000 USD just by typing '308 semi auto' on google.

I don't keep up with exchange rates.

A buddy of mine told me that a 1911 was like a sewing machine, every house needs to have one.

If you listen to Jeff Cooper, he would tell you that you at least need a Scout Rifle, Savage Scout is a good option, the Steyr is the only one that fits all of his criteria. He was the guy who really made 1911s popular.

I'm going to say the following are good choices

> bolt action rifle with a scope for big game and light fighting
Get something chambered in a "thirty" caliber, like 30-06, 300 blackout, or most preferably .308 Winchester

Savage Scout Model 11 308
Remington 700
Steyr 308

> A shotgun with a flashlight for home defense

Mossberg 500
Saiga 12

> A sidearm for when you can't get to the rifle or the shotgun

Opinions differ on caliber I'm going to say the following are decent choices

Some solid 1911 .45 ACP like the Springfield or Kimber
A basic no frills 9mm like the glock 19 or smith and wesson m&p
USP Compact 40 is a reliable carry gun
FNX 45 Tactical
Mark 23/HK45t/USP45

Some additional choices would be:

> Plinker/Small game rifle
Ruger 10/22

>Battle Rifle

SCAR 17S .308
Any solid AR platform you build yourself
AK-47

Baikal and century import a 45-70 double for around $1200-$2000. They also make 30-06.

Save your money and buy used. I bought a classic 112+ year old 9.4x74r double for $2400. It's in excellent shooting condition. At this point idgaf if it did shoot because I've had such a hard boner from researching.

There are also a number of custom gun makers that will convert a 12ga to a double in a number of calibers for $5000 give or take. Eventually ID like a 357 max double, 18 inch barrels. Oh baby to say the least. FYI not all shotguns are suited to this task.
