I'm currently in the market for a pistol for home defense, I currently have a full-size 9mm, but I'm looking to branch out and get something in .40 S&W.
I'm poor as fuck and I've been looking at police trade-ins, my budget is right around 450-500 but I can't really afford much more than that. My current options are Glock 22, Glock 23 (both gen 3) and a Sig P226 and P229.
I'm leaning more towards the Glock 23 because I want something that I can carry since I'm average sized.

9mm is perfectly adequate for HD. Use that money on a defensive handgun class instead, and buy a couple boxes of high quality HD loads.

If you are a poorfag then you are probably not getting enough range time. Use that money to git gud with the weapon you have, if you can't defend your home with 9mm why would .40 be any better. At least get a .45 or 10mm if you just need a HD gun that you will never train with.

Not sure how you feel about HK stuff, but USPs and USPc can be found for dirt cheap as police trade ins. I got a full size USP40 police trade for $350 after transfer fees.

a pistol will work fine if that whats you want, but certainly looking into some kind of long gun. a shot gun or semi auto rifle. an advantage of HD over CC is you don't have to worry about hiding it. So Fuck it, go balls out and get a big ass rifle.
if you want a pistol get something duty sized with a flashlight. You can use the one you already have or get something else, but id rather get another gun specifically for cc'ing and keep that duty gun at your bedside. I wont et into a caliber war, shoot what you like. the 22 glock is good as is the M&P .40 I prefer the 22 glock to the 23 but that's just my taste

I already have a WASR as a long gun, the only reason I wanted a pistol is because the WASR is unwieldy as fuck and my halls and rooms are small enough to where I'd destroy my eardrums if I fired it.
I was looking into the M&P as well; my 9mm is the SD9VE so it would definitely feel comfortable in my hands, have you any experience with one?
