Will soldiers use full body armor like this in the future? Why or why not?

No. The direction personal protection is going is less is more. 40 years ago it was full nylon smocks, 30 it was nylon vests, then it was big fabric vests with plates, then it was Kevlar vests with plates, then it was tight waistcoats with plates and now its just plate carriers. Then next iteration would predictably be plates with pouches molded into them or something, but that would be a step back desu. Those bracers and hand armor don't do shit and nobody would wear them, the shoulders make sense but are huge so people would ditch them too at first opportunity.
>>
>>29448428
Not until they become lightweight and inexpensive enough to be practical while also being able to stop rifle fire and somehow not losing any situational awareness or ventalation from a full face helmet.

only plebeian "operators" pack a mere platecarrier these days. That shit wasn't even allowed by most units just few years ago.

The "hey, I at least want to die comfortably!" mentality is literal cancer.

Canadians are planning to adopt this kind of ballistic visor including helmets for their troops soon. So, we're getting there.

>>29448704
Nope, that's all Level IIIa kevlar, mate.
There's also a point-man version, which has Lv3 hard plates on each section of the body
>>
>>29448689
That armor provides less protection against the primary threats a soldier faces due to needing to stop knives and blunt objects. Most riot gear isn't even rated for bullets.

like said above, that's a full kevlar armor. The parts on the limbs are not likely to stop rifle rounds, but against explosive frag and handgun rounds, the thing's a total baller. Vehicle gunners on the overseas operations have used such sets for over a decade already, usually with a face-shield.

Couple reasons but mostly you're looking at a couple hundred dollars to sightly improve a soldier's chance of survival.

They only really apply if the enemy is shooting pistol grade rounds and they hit the face. Still, I'd tell soldiers to consider buying them if they're getting shot at a lot and want to preserve their beauty. Might also help with fragmentation.

I thought the Revision suit is supposed to have a spine to support the helmet? Or are those two bars wrapping around the mannequin's neck the "spine"? I would have imagined it to be something that sits just behind the neck.
>>
>>29455337
With the 2 bars, theoretically it would never touch your neck and it would have a great range of motion than if it were a single bar going straight up from the spine. It's not embedded inside your body like your real spine, so the pressure from the helmet would always be tipping forward if it were a single bar in back. Surgical neck braces work in a similar sort of way to take the weight off your neck

>>
>>29455835
Power storage tech needs to improve quite a bit to make it viable. 2800 watts isn't a hell of alot of range. You want it to last for years of daily use, and at least half the day.

>>
>>29455810
If the spine was powered, then it will make sense to have a main anchor point on the rear in the form of a spine plus additional servos going around the neck to help stabilize it.

Such a setup may not be necessary until we arrive at a helmet that is too heavy and bulky to rely only on passive weight relief systems; that will be for substantially heavier power armor designs than Revision's concept. My primary concern is the mobility of the wearer and whether those two bars will restrict his neck movement.

>>29455835
The guys above you have posted a modern rendition of the concept. It's progressing but not as fast as we'd all like.

>>29455932
The current exos have the option of using JP8 turbines, those are efficient enough for a full day of use plus whatever extra fuel will be carried in the transport vehicles. If we were to dip into strategy discussion; keep in mind that having modern knights with full body armor could result in a shift of doctrine towards more aggressive infantry moves and less reliance on vehicular support. Patrols will always be patrols, but offensive actions may become short enough that the fuel supply will never be a problem.

>>
>>29455982
Oh really? I haven't done much reading on the topic. Not too enthusiastic about carrying a gallon of gasoline or diesel on my back if it isn't sufficiently armored, but yeah, the tactical advantages of an armored soldier that can take several rounds from an AK and keep going is mind boggling. We'd likely see a shift to high powered rifles in the field though. It also begs the question: how easy is it to disable the exosuit? If that happens the operator would be pretty much trapped in place until he could take the suit off.

I should have worded it better. I know the current one seems to be unpowered, but if it was powered for the sake of supporting a really heavy helmet, a main spine to support its weight (along with the rest of the suit) might make sense.

>>29456083
I would assume that the gas tank would be placed behind the "backpack" armor. If we are talking about XSAPI plates, the chances of anyone with an intermediate rifle shooting a single plate enough times in the exact same spot is exceedingly low. Whoever wearing would essentially be near invulnerable to most contemporary infantry threats, with the biggest risk coming from anti-mat rifles and full-auto fire in close combat. Of course, we can go heavier than XSAPI if power sources continue to improve.

Being able to shrug off several hits of 7.62x39 to the head would be great for morale, I think.

Whatever objective improvements NV had to 3, it's still and unbearably ugly and unfitting western setting for a Fallout game. Not to mention how many unnecessary and illogical factions the game had.

I mean, I prefer the setting of Fallout 3, but it was still a departure from the other games, NV is far closer to Fallout lore than 3 was.

I still prefer the city as a setting mind you, there weren't enough raiders etc in NV for my taste.

The character driven stories were better. But they basically recycled 90% of all the resources to deliver a map 1/3rd the size that was mostly empty, with no ruins to explore.

The DLC made up for vanilla though -but the overall aesthetic was just bad, 3 had a lot more in common with the original 3 as far as setting go, and the story branched off of Tactics, making their BoS not a bunch of hoarder shitheads.

Where as NV was a continuation of 2's story.
