I usually go to The Register for BOFH stories and datacenter junk, not patriotism.

SUCK IT EUROS

When you consider their role, and ignore the propaganda news attempting to sway the public opinion to buy new multi million dollar/euro foightas, they are fine for what they do. Dropping dumb bombs on pissfucks with LMGs and recking migs armed with Magellin GPSs and sidewinders at best flown by completely incompetent pilots.

Just like any other multinational project ever.
>>
>>29444847
Yes

Rafael is the only good Eurocanard but the gripe is good if you are a third world or small nation
>>
>>29445542
rafael is more expensive and less capable
>>
OP, that's full of lies. The Eurofighter does have stealth characteristics, but it's not a stealth fighter. And while it doesn't have thrust vectoring, F-22 pilots have declared in joint dogfighting exercises that it is extremely maneuvrable and a tough opponent. Also, even if they're ridiculously expensive, it's way better to buy them to maintain the know-how and manufacturing capabilities of the european air&space complex. Otherwise you end up like the russians, that can't build a new jet to save their life.
And to make matters worse, the article doesn't talk about the astonishing maintenance costs of the F-22 and its magic paint, or the fact that it can't drop anything other than dumb bombs.
>>
>>29445542
Can the Rafael already do BVR?
>>
>>29445602
and it's not like they're up against a bunch of people with any actual radars, or any significant intel network other than a screaming guy on a CB radio.
If it came down to fighting ruskies, which I highly doubt because that would be bad for business- I would say just use a stealthy a/f cruise missile to fuck their ground radar.
>>
>>29445619
duh.
>>
>>29444894
F-22 was more expensive during its production run.
>>
Guaranteed replies
>>
>buy 160 jets
>needlessly retire 53 of them
>put the price tag of 160 jets on the 107 you keep
>OMG SO EXPENSIVE!
that's some creative accounting right there.
>>
>>29445560
Rafale was designed as a multirole leaning towards fighter bomber.
Typhoon was designed as a multirole leaning towards interceptor
>>
Pretty sure the eurofighter can knock out its pilot just as well as the f22.

Maneuverability hasnt been an issue since fly by wire got sophisticated enough to make even a brick fly.
>>
>>29445747
We're actually not retiring all of the tranche 1 aircraft anymore either.
>>
>>29446167
Its an article from 2011, so this entire premise is irrelevant as fuck.
>>
>>29446167
Tranche 1 Aircraft only entered service in what? 2004?

It's only been 10 years and there's already talk of retirement...
>>
>>29446394
Prolly better to retire lots of military vehicles before the caliphate takes over.

Guy is wrong on it not carrying PGMs, but only GPS/INS, which is pitiful.

Its air superiority though, so using it as a bomb truck is pointless in the first place.

The F-35 is different in that the US controls it's development.

but typhoon can carry nearly as much weight and has far more planned munitions than rafael, including little things like brimstone, a weapon the french dont have a equal to

Let me guess, this is going to be Lewis Page.

Click.

OH LOOK, WHAT DO YOU KNOW

Lewis Page is literally Pierre Sprey tier, folks. Lower even, Pierre Sprey at least has a certain degree of skewed and purposefully inaccurate logic. Page is just a flat out idiot.

>>29445619

Nope, still only has MICA. Meteor should be in service in a couple years though, that'll give it a nice boost.

>>29448560
Typhoon is still shit at air to ground compared to the Rafale, as the Rafale is shit at BVR
>>
>>29448892
Theres little in it on A2G with T2+. The "shit air to ground" thing is from T1 Typhoons, which are only used for air policing.

Rafale isn't "shit" at BVR. It literally CAN'T do BVR.
>>
>>29448892

It isn't THAT far behind the Rafale now. Both use PGMs, but the Rafale's advantage is it has Storm Shadow cruise missiles (or SCALP as the French call it). But thats its only real "general A2G" bonus now. Typhoon has Paveway IV, Paveway II and a bunch of other PGMs already. The Typhoon has the advantage of better/more varied targeting pods, though.

Rafale is still better at A2G, but the gap isn't what it once was. Once Brimstone, Storm Shadow, Spear and Taurus come into service (3 of them by 2017/18) it will have overtaken the Rafale, which currently doesn't really have any future A2G munitions funded for integration at all right now.

Rafale is still vastly better at ASM though, given it has Exocet while Typhoon has nothing at current. However, the Rafale can only carry a single Exocet missile per plane (!) while the Typhoon has 6 MARTE-ER carry capacity in testing for when it's cleared.

WHAT IS THAT?! A COCKPIT FOR ANTS?! I NEEDS TO BE AT LEAST....THREE TIMES THAT BIG.

Or 3 Harpoons.

Albeit, this last one hasn't been airframe checked yet. Only windtunnel checks on scale models, as pictured. MARTE-ER is by far the furthest ahead, due to Italy and Kuwait's requirements.
>>
The "problem" is that pretty much all user nations bought and still want to use the Eurofigher as air superiorty fighter.
>>
>>29448667
>>29448697 was right about him being worse than Sprey, I don't think Sprey ever resorted to writing blatant clickbait.
>>
>>29449005

Less a problem, more just a focus. Many of its customers were nailed simple BECAUSE it focused on air to air, prioritising getting BVR missiles, a selection of SRAAMs (It can mount three modern types after all, thats god tier modularity) and systems to support such potential. Austria and Oman for example were wanting interceptors.

UK, Germany, Saudi and Italy all didn't need A2G replacements as rapidly, as the Tornados are still fantastic ground attack aircraft and could happily perform for many years still. So they took the oppurtunity to get some serious A2A power going in the meantime. It was a smart choice, giving all of the nations involved a huge A2A boost on top of existing A2G.

Once that was sorted, they moved onto A2G work. It was a smart, logical choice and it's seen the best Europlane sales by a massive margin because of it.
>>
>>29449005
Germany also pretty much confirmed again that they will not use the Eurofighter to fill the Tornado role after its retirement.
>>
>>29446394
We are replacing our Gripen C with Gripen E starting next year. And the last Gripen C was delivered last year in november.
>>
>>29448941
I actually heard something about Dassault considering adapting the Tiger rocket pod for the Rafale.

Seems like they really want to turn it into a kebab removal airframe.
