Unless you have 12+ rounds, 1911s are still capable of being outclassed

>Is there a better defensive pistol than the 1911?

Any of the dozens of double stack 9x19's on the market.

I love the 1911 as a historical piece. But that's what it is: a historical piece.
>>
>>29443915
Why are they better? What makes them better?
>>
The triggers and ergos are really the only thing the 1911 has over most modern service pistols...they're a horrible choice as an issue weapon these days, but still as viable a choice for individual users as anything else.
>>
>>29443940

There is no statistically significant different difference in wounding ability between common handgun chamberings. You have to step up to something like .44 Magnum before you see any real affect.

The obvious logical choice is to choose whichever offers the highest capacity.

The 1911 only holds 7 rounds, which is completely laughable compared to modern offerings.
>>
>>29444041
>There is no statistically significant different difference in wounding ability between common handgun chamberings
Says who? This assertion is counter-intuitive, as one would assume that larger bullets make larger holes in the target. If you want your audience to believe counter-intuitive assertions, you need to cite authoritative sources.

Fun fact: My dad's ex girlfriend's dad was a fag in LA and really into the Hollywood scene. Tom Sellek is gay. When it was about to hit the media, he got married. I think Tom Cruise is gay, too, but I don't remember.
Another one of her relatives rode freight trains and lived with Charles Manson for a while.

Oh what's the use, you're just a dumb fudd. If we see mass usage of laser firearms in our lifetime you will still probably be defending .45acp.
>>
>>29444221
>Says who?

Every single study or statistical analysis ever conducted on the subject.

Yes, and? Humans aren't water balloons. Bleeding out is rarely what ends the threat. Sucking chest wound? Now that's more like it.

>If you want your audience to believe counter-intuitive assertions, you need to cite authoritative sources.

I'm not going to spoonfeed you. Just fucking google it, last time I checked the FBI published their findings when they announcd they were dropping .40 S&W.
>>

Is this a serious post? Not only did you buy a REVOLVER, you bought a TAURUS revolver in .380. Imagine those numbers are capital so you can understand my WHY.
>>
>>29444544
i mean. It isnt a bad weapon. i obviously havent had to use it but i am pretty good at the range and i think with home defense weapon that is all you can ask for
>>
Personally for defense in a handgun situation i would have a 9x19mm HP or a .380 HP...and if you dont have HP make them HP...
>>
I always thought it funny how people defend lower capacity guns by yelling about muh shot placement

>what is darkness
>what is moving targets
>what are obstacles

More capacity = more chances to hit your target
Worst case scenario, more shooting noises to keep their heads down
>>
itt: mall ninjas who are mad they got conned into buying a cheaper product made of plastic instead of a true classic because that one time in Call of duty they used the 1911 and didn't deal enough DPS before having to reload.

>muh autoloaders
Revolvers are fine for purses and mai-first-gun, since there cheap, easy to understand, and durable enough for you to work out all the mistakes you're going to make, like forgetting to clean.
>.38
.45 to the knee < .38 to the chest, and since revolvers can't be forced out of battery by applying pinky finger pressure the muzzle, you can actually use the thing to fucking defend yourself properly.
.45 is for cardboard commandos that like to see the "biggar hoelz", without understanding algebra and the surface area of circles, and that about 80% of your profile is basically expendable dead space and extremities you're not going to be killed by a gunshot to, no matter the caliber of your pistol round, anyway. If anything 22 lr is ideal, because of unmatched controlability, and t5he highest capacity. If you doublestack 22lr, its still probably easier to CC than .45.

This guy probably doesn't own more than one or two guns

Then no not really. Somehow after 100 years people still can't angle the grip of a pistol.

If so, you done fucked up. But you'll want to be fucking up with a double stack 9mm.
>>
>>29444456
What force are you referring to? The force applied to the bullet or the force applied to the target?

If you can't see your target, it would be a violation of rule 4 to shoot it. Too many family members have died because someone shot at a shadow.

No because you're not going to listen to objectivity. These threads are pointless.
>>
>>29445102
Arguably. Heavy and a .45 so recoil isn't bad. Nice trigger. Ammo is more expensive. Pretty customizable. Fairly reliable.

I got a 1911 for my first and I regret nothing. You should try out a few guns in 9mm and .45 and see what you shoot best with and is comfortable. Don't get hung up on design so long as it is from a good company.
