Eeesh...I'd pass.

That's set up as a defensive/3-gun rifle. The DD stock is complete trash, the grip is meh, doesn't come with irons so there's a minimum extra $100-200.

The proprietary rail is hit or miss. Looks solid, and as long as you're not 100% committed to M-Lok I don't see any reason to ever change it. But...proprietary.

A 2-stage trigger is pretty ubiquitous in the AR world, pretty much the only ones that aren't are the GI trigger (which, depending on how you think about it is either a mushy creepy single stage or an ∞ stage) and some specialty single stage triggers from CMC and Geissele. Also pretty sure the DD 2-stage trigger is pretty meh overall and is basically a polished GI trigger.

Also you could build a Mega MATEN with premium cut-rifled barrel (Kreiger, Brux, Bartlein, Hart, Pac-Nor) and a Geissele HSNM for about $500 less than that.

Commiefornia too so ordering by parts might be the best thing.

AFAIK a non-bullet button lower is okay to import if it's just the lower, then I could turn it into a bullet button before doing anything evil to it, like attaching a pistol grip.

I can shoot it, just nowhere near as well as a decent trigger.

I don't have a single milspec trigger left in any of my AR's, I'm up to 4 Geissele's and 2 Chip McCormicks.
>b-but Geissele is better than CMC!
They are now. I like flat triggers and bought those two before the SD-series Geisseles came out. Also at the time they were the lightest total pull weight and the only true single stage triggers available.

I've heard very good things about the PSA AR15s. My friend got one, and he said for 500 bucks (think it mightve been on sale) its perfect. Of course you get what you pay for but thats the great thing about ARs and guns in general. Don't like a trigger? Change it out. Don't like the upper? Change it out. etc etc

Anyone care to weigh in on my next phase of AR upgrades?

Back story: Shot guns all my life, liked versatility, upgradeability, style of AR-15 platform. So I bought a basic S&W M&P-15 Sport II for like $500 (there was a sale).

I have been slowly upgrading components over the past few months. There 4 major components I am looking at maybe changing.

1) Barrel: The stock barrel was a 1:9 twist 4140 steel 5.56 16"carbine barrel. I am thinking I will get a 1:7 16" carbine barrel cause muh mil-specs. But I honestly don't know how much this really matters

2) Muzzle Device/ Flash Hider: I am still rocking A2 birdcage. Also dont think is necessary but everyone seems to have some after market one. No idea what I would get.

3) Trigger/Lower parts: Apparently the trigger is some cheap 7 lb trigger as well as cheap parts. I dont notice anything wrong with it but I have never really tried (knowingly) anything else so I don't have a comparison.

4) BCG: It comes with AR-15 variant. I was thinking at the very least I would get an m16 bolt carrier but then I was wondering whether I would need to or should get a different bolt and firing pin.

Any suggestions or advice very much welcomed.

1. Unless you intend to shoot 69gr and heavier match ammo out of it, it really doesn't matter. 1:8 will shoot everything that fits in the mag and is the "ideal" twist for an AR but is kinda scarce.
2. Unless you routinely shoot on indoor ranges or own NVG's, a brake is superior to any flash hider or compensator.
3. Geissele G2S is the best of the sub-$200 triggers. Geissele SSA-E or SD-E are the best of the >$200 triggers, and differ only between curved and flat trigger face.
4. No reason to dick with your current BCG unless you want a Cryptic, which comes complete. S&W BCG's are fine.
>>
>>29440951
honestly, sell the Sport II and start over from scratch

You'll probably be able to get your $500 back or more if you sell on armslist

For parts, I'd recommend a Gieselle trigger group and a Supercomp NT brake

Uh no.

The (US, UK, Canadian, and German) military does a 25/300m zero. Which puts a bullet in the torso of a 5'5" tall person anywhere from inches to 400m with no holdover.
>>
>>29441385
I'd go for the pistol since you know what you want.
Maybe get a lower too since if you want one later it'll be hard to find.
Also consider this >>29441424
>>
>>29441430
I was honestly just looking for thoughts as to whether or not I should replace those parts. From what I have gathered the only thing I really should replace of those is the trigger.

A trigger to a whole new rifle seems like a jump. Especially since I really dont want to deal with FFL transfer shit. Maybe I am alone in this but the few times I did it ( a few years back) it was a pain in the ass.

I probably will build a new one from scratch anyway simply because I already know I want 2 different designated rifles. This one is currently going to be my multi-purpose "combat" carbine. I just want something that is effective and versatile for that.

My sort of dream build will probably be a full size 20" rifle build. Probably .308 if I can do it cheap.

I Would love budget build advice though.

... When I was in the USAR we zeroed at 25 yds with iron sights, 50 yds with optics.
>>
>>29441553
Eh yeah.
>FM 3-22.9 chapter 5 paragraph 2
>a. The purpose of battlesight zeroing is to align the sights with the weapon's barrel given standard issue ammunition. When this is accomplished correctly, the point of aim and point of impact are the same at a given range such as 250 meters for the M16A1 and 300 meters for the M16A2/A3/A4 and M4-series weapons. This sight setting provides the highest hit probability for most combat targets with minimum adjustment to the aiming point.
>b. All soldiers should successfully group prior to zeroing. If the unit is proficient at grouping, then two shot groups should be fired to confirm proficiency prior to making any sight adjustments during zeroing procedures.

(1) The unit is divided into firing orders. The first order fires while the second order coaches. Firing points are reserved to conduct corrective instruction. When using smaller ranges, the unit should be divided into three or more orders.

(2) Sandbags should be provided at each firing point to accommodate supported firing positions.

(3) Each shot is fired using the same aiming point (center of mass of the target) from a supported firing position.

(4) Each soldier ensures his sights are set for 25-meter zeroing.

(5) The soldier fires a three-round shot group at the 25-meter zero target. The firing line is cleared, and he moves downrange to examine the shot group. The soldier examines the shot group for fundamental errors, triangulates the shot group and puts the number 1 in the center of the shot group.

(6) Initially the soldier should fire two individual shot groups before a sight change is considered. If the initial shot group is not on paper the weapon should be mechanically zeroed before the soldier fires this weapon again.

(7) The soldier returns to the firing line and fires a second three-round shot group.

They don't REQUIRE anything, but their BDC only really works (for M855) when zeroed at 100m.

Also yes he probably means the M68 CCO (Aimpoint), and his unit is still doing it wrong. CCO's are supposed to be zeroed the same as your irons, so still 25/300.

Then these are the upgrades I recommend:
Barrel: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-BFH-14-5-Mid-Length-Barrel-Stripped-p/bcm-brl-s-mid-14%20bfh.htm I know you said you wanted 16", but if this is your designated carbine, might as well go as short as you can before NFA territory.
Trigger: ALG makes some really nice triggers for the price, no suprise since it's geissele budget line.http://algdefense.com/alg-combat-trigger-act.html
Free float rail: http://algdefense.com/ergonomic-modular-rail-emr-v3-m-lok.html
This will increase accuracy, and reduce weight, but most importantly, it looks cool.
If you need work done, I recommend ADCO. https://www.adcofirearms.com/shopservices/
>>
>>29441746
>nonmilitary zeroing
so suddenly the 25m zero is non military?
>They don't REQUIRE anything, but their BDC only really works (for M855) when zeroed at 100m.
you don't say.
if you don't give a fuck just buy a scope with a duplex reticle.
it requires a 100m zero for the BDC to work with whatever the model requires.
>>

yea sorry I have dumb personal terminology. Anything medium to long range I call scopes. Anything up to medium I call optics.

Technically we zeroed our acogs at 100 yards which is like 90 meters.

>>
>>29441746
>his unit is still doing it wrong. CCO's
it was a pretty pog unit. But we switched to 50 yd zero because the ballistics were comparable and actually gave us a little better accuracy at farther distances. I always thought we did it because too many people in our unit were fucking horrendous shots and we wanted to make them look better.
>>
>>29441878
I'm not claiming to be right about that, I already said my bad.
you're the retard somehow claiming that a video about zeroing methods when talking to someone and criticizing their method to zero is unrelated, even though in the video it confirms what you said about a 25m zero being effective to 400m on a human torso.
like what if I zero my red dot at 25m and I dont use that 7 step program suddenly my zero isnt the same as a soldiers?

This leads me to one of two conclusions.
>1. You cannot follow a conversation that literally has hyperlinks to each part, and have continually COMPLETELY MISSED the points multiple people have been making
or
>2. You legitimately thought the military did something other than a 25/300m zero, and continue to refuse to admit you were wrong on that part

>>29441927
Still don't understand why your unit was zeroing in yards instead of meters, like seriously did you guys go to a civilian range to do it? Because every military range I've been on was set up in meters.

Anyway, at least in my unit we had absolute cowitness mounts for our Aimpoints so we could do a true 25/300m zero and they'd line up exactly with the iron sights' zero. If you had a lower-1/3rd mount, *maybe* a 50 yard zero would have been more appropriate, but honestly it sounds like your unit was just trying to cover for people who couldn't shoot.

Get told it would take 6 weeks to repair his suppressor at longest and it has been 8+weeks.

I would already sent inquiring and semi threating email then assblasted email with threat to tell multiple forum about how poor surefart CS is and solemnly swear to drive away every single potential customers you can for rest of your life.

Troy Folding Battlesights. People can talk shit on the company all they want but they're some nice BUIS. Plus I got the pair for $110 new ($50 front, $60 rear).

Got the SPARC 2 set up for a lower 1/3 co-witness but I don't know which I like better yet.

If I could find something that didn't look like absolute shit on me and was easy to manage I'd chop it off.
Usually I just grab it and cut at the base of my hand when summer comes around.
Did it before I went to quakecon last year.

Same here i would be mad and definitely inform them i will be telling my bad experience with surefart on multiple forums if the cost is any more than say $100 if suppressor is welded type and much less if its screw together say $50buck.

>>29443287
Nothing "fucktard" about how he damaged it. He basically only sis alot of rapid firing with 50 grainer polymer tipped ammo and tip melt causing round to destabilize as it leave muzzle and hit baffles in suppressor it was a simple oversight. Unless in manual it clearly stated polymer tipped ammo usage in hot gun is forbidden or will void warranty and potentially cause damage to suppressor he's in right.
