Nigger, they shouldn't be that high If they aren't dated for Vietnam.
>>
>>29440406
Term "woobie" comes from the name commonly used by American children to refer to their security blanket.

As far as I go, I haven't picked one up yet, but I do have this Indian blanket I picked up going through New Mexico last year. Use it outside and is comfy as fuck.
>>
>>29440163
I actually just use a plain black one I picked up at a milsurp stores. The ladies love it, it doesn't look spergy

A woobie is the thermal liner for an issued poncho. It is lightweight, and relatively comfortable, like a normal blanket. Men have packed the woobie in their packs to provide a modicum of comfort and warmth in harsh conditions. When weight is major concern, and sleep is unreliably given the woobie can be deployed and used as a quick and ad hoc sleeping aid when the encumberance and extra weight of a sleeping bag is un-needed.

To the dirty and tired infantryman on the constant move, the ability to cuddle up to something, even for the briefest of sleep is something akin to nirvana.

It is called a woobie in a semi-mocking or "ironic" way to call back the ways a child might refer to their security blanket.

But they were. I'll check eBay tonight and see if I can find a not retarded price.

when I joined the US Army in the early 90s, we called them Ranger blankets too. Some time around 2000 it shifted and ppl started calling them woobies

Same. I think 'woobie' is more common with army cats. Still 10/10 though.

They actually aren't THAT great. A normal cotton blanket is VASTLY superior, they are made of some sort of synthetic material that is, hard to describe, but its almost "sticky" when its real humid out. Like it will stick to your exposed skin.

They also aren't that warm, or really anything. But they are really nice to have when you have nothing else. Full uniform on, boots still on. Head propped against the butt of your rucksack, rifle pressed against your side and your woobie draped over you. You punch your ruck to "dent" it so when you turn to your side your neck is at a comfortable angle. You pull your woobie up as you curl into the fetal position.

Your body aches, your feet hurt but you can't take off your boots, too slow to react to any contact, but you pull up your woobie and cuddle it. Its the only comfort you have, the only thing that isn't dirty, and sweaty, and disgusting. You clutch it like a baby, and the term "woobie" is no longer funny, it makes perfect sense.

You don't really need or want one, but like i said, curled up in the one comfortable position you can find with a woobie against your chin makes you feel like you are in the womb again.

I had one a long time ago back in the Boy Scouts during the 90's shit was cash but did not realize they were called woobies. We always called them poncho liners or bag liners
>>
>>29439222
Woobie is just a neverserved/POG meme.
>>
>>29442613
sell that shit somewhere else anon.
>>29442652
i did my time.
>>
>>29442652
Uhh no? I'm AD Infantry and everyone has a woobie and knows exactly what one is. I just did an NTC rotation and spent plenty of nights curled up under a woobie with 1-3 other people for hours on top of a mountain or freezing in a field. The woobie brings comfort and slight warmth, aurelty better than just a poncho but not as great as a sleep system.
>>
these things are such a hot item that most of my friend's ex-wives stole them in the divorce. This is a super common thing.

If your ex-wife stole yours too, then go buy one on amazon. I just re-coup'ed mine and feeling a tiny lace fall into my eye while trying to fall asleep is like receiving a butterfly kiss from heaven itself.

Love my poncho liner.

You have all confirmed yourselves as not infantrymen.

We all know it's called a "woobie" because:

You woo bie cold without it.

Fucking niggers.
>>
>>29439222
Funny thing is, I was looking up about this couple of days ago, using the poncho as shelter, and having this used as some sort of sleeping bag.
>>
>>29443401
MONICA

You don't know warmth until you and 6 other dudes have huddled together under one on a PZ at 0320 in the morning on a brisk afgan winter night.

I have two one UCP and the other was my original issue woodland one. Its been washed so many times its just OD green.
>>
>>29444510
I do know, nigger-lover. I eschewed away from Baghdad in my woodland woobie. It was stolen from me by fucking cocksucking 3BDE 10MTN FAGGOTS at FOB LOYALTY. I acquired back another woodland (albeit, faded) woobie. I carried that woobie with me all the way to Kandahar. In Kandahar it was blown to literal smithereens by 155mm rnds, 4 ea. I broke my back and almost lost an eye. After surgery and Phys Ther. I finished out the deployment strong. I remember huddling under my new UCPâ„¢ Woobie (freshly stolen from 2-Fury, 82nd) with my two cherry TL's on a PZ waiting for nightstalkers to pick us up from north of the Arghandab.

So, fuck off.

2 Marine Infantry units later, it's still called a "poncho liner." I think there may be a branch-gap in terms.
>>
>>29443401
not Infantry? Motherfucker, I bet you were still popping zits and wondering why your dick would get hard when you touched it while I was in the first wave onto the airport in Baghdad with 3/7 Inf. In the 90s we called them Ranger Blankets.
>>
New Marine here, we still call them poncho liners. We used them as our blanket in boot camp since we were only allowed to sleep on top of our made racks.

what does it matter after all what you call it.
i suspect that anyone calling it a poncho liner
might reason that others would think it too unmanly to call a woobie.
i'm the type that cares little what others might think.

Every infantryman imn the field has seen the woobie's cousin, the smoker's jacket.

>fits under ACU and stays hidden
>best pillow while woobie is used as blanket
>warms up fast as fuck

Gents, if you live on post or near post, run. Run fast to a surplus store and get a smokers jacket!

Retard, it gets so fucking cold on Afghanistan that I could wear my smokers jacket, waffles, polypros, a shemagh, beanie, 2 layers of gloves, cools winter boots, while sharing a woobie with the guy with me and still hate my life. IN A GUARD TOWER where the wind can't cut through everything.

As far as training goes, snivel gear is to use as a pillow and to throw on when you're conducting hygeine or guard duty.

Welcome to real life.
