Alright.

I'm looking to buy one of theses from surplus shops online.

Not sure if the speakers will work considering the plug is something that i don't recognize.
>>
>>29434365
FYI. If you do buy one. Don't wear it with the flaps down.
>>
cable is mono, I believe its suppose to be speaker and microphone then power.
>>
>>29434365
What's with people wanting to buy theses all a sudden.
>>
>>29434376
Why not?
>>
>>29434376
Isn't it flaps down your gay and flaps up your straight? makes no fucking sense in the dead of winter to lose your ears to that bullshit.
>>
>>29434442
>Isn't it flaps down your gay and flaps up your straight?
that applies to ushankas, tanker/VDV helmets aren't designed to be worn flaps up
>>
I've been trying to convert this shlemofon into a gaming headset but the cable is weird.. I think it's only for vehicle radio plugs.
>>
>>29434365
I was looking into getting one of there recently, but they seemed quite expensive.

what price range are you looking at
>>
>>29434521
Ive been running one of these for gaming for a couple years now, honestly youre better off pulling the old earpieces out, pulling some headphones apart and putting them in there.

Would it be too hipster gay to walk in the street with one of these while listen to music?

I want to put my senheiser HD25's capsules on one of these.
>>
>>29434527
They sell for about 90 to 50 dollars depending on where you shop.

Not that much considering what somethings are..
>>
>>29434543

Yes, but don't let that stop you. I get the feeling you crossed that bridge a long time ago.

I want one of these badboys to listen to Nightcall while cruising through the Afghan countryside in an open top BTR.
>>
>>29434543
You're already gay.
>>
>>29434550
ah.

I was looking at originals, not reproductions, and they are a lot more expensive

I want to wear one while skiing
>>
>>29434563
Theyre not real warm to be honest, there are winter ones around though, with fur lining.
>>
>>29434563
I was under the impression the stuff on the surplus sites were originals as some date back to 1989.

>>

can i use one of these to make gaming videos, like Pewdipie does?
Would i be considered cool if i did?
Playing world of tanks while wearing it, have me playing it in the corner like Pewdipie and can i get a history lesson about german or russian tanks so that i can fake the accent to get more views?
Thanks /k/, you will get a shoutout when im famous.

I thought flaps down just ment you were Canadian.
>>
>>29434539
agreed with this guy, not only do you get better sounds but its also a lot easier then figuring out the wiring (the poles, russians and czech have different plugs)

Hey OP, I have one of these, an unissued Czech winter version in really good condition. Here's my thoughts:

Its warm. Quite warm in fact, but unless you remove the speakers (which I have only done part way) it's difficult to hear anything. If you do want to remove the speakers, keep in mind that (at least, in the kind I have) it's permanent. You have to cut open a portion of the helmet to remove the speakers. You can take then out of the earpieces (which is a flap attached by buttons) but to completely remove them you have to cut the helmet open. The throat mics and speakers are in good condition, but I had similar problems finding a way to get them to work. I usually just put in some earbuds and put the helmet on top.

Also, there's an Australian audio/tech forum where a guy rigged his to work as a gaming headset but I wasn't able to figure out how. If you want I can post some pics and the link to the forum post later today if you want.

Sure thing, I'll be home in about 4 or 5 hours. If they prune the thread I'll make a new one.

Also edit to my previous comment, you don't HAVE to cut open the headset, you could also cut up the wiring/cords to get then out. I wasn't able to find headphone speakers that would fit though, so I'd someone else knows it would be good to hear.

cant be any worse than the other massive tumors like pewdiepie who do it.

you could even splurge on a throat mic one, or get an assortment of ushankas, budanovkas, pilotkas, and berets to wear for fun.
>>
>>29434365
Heeeey I have one of these made in 83, its the warmest fuckin hat ive ever owned, you can usually find a good price on ebay, if youre willing to gamble on if it works or not also prepare to not have it fit any gasmask or any googles, that and dont expect to hear anyone talking at a normal volume

Someone else mentioned, each country had their own proprietary plugs. Not sure if that's true or not, I only have one to go off of.

Here's the throat mics and the inside of the helmet.

Inside the cloth cover on each ear is a rubber socket/mold that holds the actual speaker. The speaker can be removed as shown (though it's really stuck in there), but the rubber mold piece is attached to the helmet itself.

Under the name/back of the neck there's a piece of cloth that holds down all the wires.

The plug is taped/glued to the cloth, and the strip of cloth is down to the back of the helmet. If you were careful, and didn't care about saving the electronics, you could cut the strip off and no one would be the wiser.

Could you mesure the diameter and height in metric if possible?

Sure thing. I've kind of shown all the electronics though, it's a very simple setup. Was there something specific you're looking for?

In the meantime here's the stamp from the factory. It's hard to tell, but the mark on the right is the Czech military's crossed swords symbol. I believe this helmet was manufactured in the 80's but I don't know how to read the factory stamp :/

I'll give you the dimensions of the speaker itself, if that's alright. Its hard to measure inside the speaker 'cup'.

Measurements:

Width: 2 in (5.08cm) at its widest (picture for reference)
Height: 12/16ths of an inch (1.905cm)

Oh I forgot to mention, the speaker comes in two pieces, a rubber cap and the speaker itself. The back of the speaker says "TA-56M / 50 Ohms"

I don't know what the 'TA-56M' means...
>>
>>29441598
No problem.

Just curious, would you seinnheisers fit? I've been looking for a solution for a while lol
>>
>>29441639
i'm not sure. http://www.thomann.de/gb/sennheiser_hd25_70_ohm_capsule.htm

the diameter seems too small
>>
>>29441710
I didn't see any measurements listed on the website so I'm no help there. No one would see the inside, so if you wanted to use a knife and cut away some of the rubber I suppose you could.

Also, I found out what TA-56M means. Its the identifier number for a type of headset used with medium power transmission systems after the Warsaw Pact (according to google)
>>
>>29441790
Did it come with a mic?
>>
>>29442067

yes, they're called 'laryngophones' or something like that. they pick up the sound directly from your thoat. seen here:

>>29441125
>>
>>29442203
Noice
>>
>>29441090
This is pretty simple. 2 of the leads go to the speakers, 2 go to the mic. Take a double a battery with a little lead wire, tape 1 end to pos 1 end to neg. Jump these to 2 of the poles. When you get the speaker poles, the speaker will make a popping noise. Solder a 3.5mm plug to these 2 poles. Same process with the mic.

What about wiring it up to a 6.5 jack
>>
I kinda want to get one of these, but I don't know the official name. What are these tanks hats actually called?
>>
>>29444998
They are basically a Tanker helmet but i'd call them a Ushanka tanker.
>>
>>29445342
They are just a ushanka really.
>>
>>29434365
Anyone got one of theses?
>>
Fuck. Now I'm seriously considering dropping the cash to get one of these.
>>
>>29447375
As am i.

It looks like something that could be useful.
>>
>>29444998
they're called "tanker hats" or "tanker helmets"

>>29446076
they're not though. Only the winter versions are insulated, they have ridges on top to protect your head, and you can't wear the flaps up. The only similarity they share with ushankas is that you can button the flaps up under your chin.
>>
>>29446611

Right then slag features! The closer pins are for the throat mic and the other pins are your headphones! I did some nigger rigging with a set of plug connectors, wire and a old headphone jack. Works ok, just a bit quiet! Sorry about the shit photo, but hopefully you get the idea!
>>
>>29448438
It's a shame they don't have adpters for that. if they did you just buy an adpter plug it up and hack it until you find the headphones.
>>
>>29448438
>just a bit quiet!
Maybe you need a headphone amp; isn't 50ohms mid range for head phones? I know there are 320ohms cans out there those don't even use 3.5mm jacks.
>>
>>29449189
>>29448438

wow, really cool. for an electronics noob, could you give me a step by step?

also, I use a fiio mini-amp that works great for my pilot headset, maybe it would work here?
>>
>>29448196

IIRC the helmet size is 58 cm, could be 57. it fits well, if a little snug around the forehead. not uncomfortable by any means, but it is noticeable after long periods.

I got mine from epicmilitaria, and it looks like they still have the winter issue in stock. someone else posted this link

https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/polish-pnw-57-tank-helmet-with-infrared-goggles-surplus/24667

which is honestly a really good price considering I've seen the NVG's by themselves go for $200. These helmets are polish though (one difference cosmetically being they have only 3 ridges going front-to-back on the head, mine has 4 smaller ones).
