Because single shots from carbines can still suppress people just fine. Specialized weapons are a supplement to a squad of people carrying all purpose weapons.
People carry carbines so they can carry other shit like rockets,Anti ied shit, first aid, commo, grenadier, breach equipment.
Because everyone carrying full-auto weapons would be a poor decision resulting in an necessary waste of money and resources, kind of like your mothers decision not to abort you. They're heavy, too.

You still have to clear buildings and city, and doing it with an open bolt system is too unreliable. Urban operations are defined successful with a 50% expected casualty rate. Machine guns are also too big to be clearing rooms with. P90s are not reliable at range. Modern military doctrine is not to suppress until artillery. Those are just support assests that may not be available. Modern military doctrine is to fire and maneuver on the enemy, something best accomplished with machine guns in a support by fire role and rifleman assaulting through the objective

Yeah, but it takes soldiers on the ground to decide if that 5-story building has nothing but 5 assholes in it that need to die, or 5 assholes in it that need to die and 30 civilians. You can't just bomb every building because the enemy is in it

Now IF you have overwhelming air superiority and the first and second largest airforces in the world (the USAF and the USN) and you CAN call in an airstrike, you sure as fuck will. But modern military doctrine is to suppress and MANEUVER to close and destroy the enemy. Its easier to maneuver with an M4 than a 249
2) There would be massive logistical issues with EVERY GODDAMN SOLDIER having a 249. As it is we load down one poor fucker per team with a shit load of ammo, and everyone else too. Supplying one 249 per team is a struggle.
3) Suppressive fire is defined as a shot every 3-5 seconds. Seriously. It isn't continuous machine gun fire, a single shot from four rifle men staggered along 3-5 seconds WILL keep your head down, no one wants to get shot.
So, I get this is bait making fun of the US armed forces, but even without that it is flawed.
Every soldier is issuedcan F35 now.
Marine loadout is still the same.
Sailors are still smart enough to stay off shore and fling explodong volkswagon sized projectiles until things stop moving or there is nothing left to burn.
With current doctrine how it is, why don't we all just arm the troops with fucking a 10/22. Just replace 5.56 with .22 and you've got every reason for current muntions.
