Tom Deeb, founder of Hi-Point firearms, died today at 65.

Let's have a moment of silence for him designing reliable, low-cost guns for people who needed them but didn't have a lot to spend.

>>29416062
You can always rely on hi points to be pieces of shit
>>
>>29416062
hey man I had 2 they just would not quit never jammed and lasted 5k-6k rounds before they took a shit and even then I just need a new recoil spring and they would run fine again and surprisingly they are fairly accurate
>>
>>29416044
I heard a rumor his daughter was killed because she didn't have the money to buy a reliable firearm which led him to make the company.

Is this bullshit? Am I full of shit? Judy Hopps is best waifu.
>>
>>29416044

On a serious note: my Hi-point carbine was a great little gun. Never had an issue.

On another note: Why didn't Hi-Point ever branch off into making higher tier weaponry? Surely they sold enough to make some prototype pistols or carbines that were actually good looking and useful? I just can't imagine why they consistently settle for less.

Jesus you really know nothing about business models do you? No matter how nice the gun is they can't charge a premium for it because it's "still a hi point". This is why Kia doesn't make super cars or why timed doesn't try to make luxury timepieces
>>
>>29416348
It would be pointless. They already established themselves as a maker of affordable, decent quality guns. Anything they try to sell will be looked at as such, so even if there was a quality, $500-800 Hi-Point, it would flop because the name tied to it is known for cheap stuff. It's like Toyota (NOT Lexus) trying to sell you a $100,000 luxury sport sedan. Anyone willing to spend that much is going to go for a brand with some acclaim to it.
>>
>>29416348
They have the market for inexpensive bang-sticks.

Why compete with the flooded AR and AK market, or why try to be keltec?

If they DID expand I wouldn't be surprised if it was just pump-action shotguns and higher capacity magazines, things that are relatively hard to fuck up too bad and can still appeal to the less wealthy customer.
>>
>>29416372
>>29416376
Kek, we had the same reasoning and similar analogies.
>>
>>29416044
Not going to lie, my first handgun was a Hi-Point JCP. That gun never gave me any shit for the five years I had it.
>>
>>29416348
I dunno. Just making random assumptions here with zero evidence, but R&D costs money so maybe they wanted to keep costs as low as possible? I agree though. They could easily streamline the look of their firearms, make them more useful, and still keep them cheap, I think. Make a carbine that takes Glock double stack mags, give their pistols picatinny rails and make the mags double stack, etc.

Then again, why bother? They're not competing with higher end guns. People who could afford better, buy better. I respect Hi Point for at least not trying to pretend that they're competing with Glock or Smith or Sig or something.
>>
>>29416372
>>29416376
>>29416383

I get it. But I also think it wouldn't have been very harmful to release a limited production run of some nice guns.

You talked about average car companies not making supercars...Well, some actually do. And they sell very well due to the exclusivity. Every rich guy has a Ferarri or Lambo, but how many have a Honda NSX?

That's the kind of mentality I was thinking of.
>>
>>29416044
Fuck, that makes me sad.

If we return him to the factory, will they give us another one to keep supplying good, cheap guns?
>>
Okay, let's be honest here: People don't hate Hi-Point because they aren't reliable. They hate them because they're ugly. Period. Whats the big deal about lying about it? It worked, it just wasnt easy to look at.
>>
I just realized that Hi-point only makes pistol caliber firearms, do you think they could make a rifle caliber firearm.

Not many have NSXs because there's not a lot of demand for an expensive car made buy a company that builds minivans for soccer moms and FF DDs for unhappy, middle-aged men who need a commuter. Sure, some people will buy them, and sure, some people will buy a $700 Hi-Point. Not many will, though. Also, Honda has their acclaimed motorsports division with a good reputation behind them. Last time I checked, the big names in IPSC and IDPA aren't running Hi-Points.

Hey guys, do you think these carbines could ( realistically ) be used in hunting deer? They look like neat little, inexpensive yet high quality firearms. The problem is I'm new to guns and am not sure if any of those rounds, consisting of 9mm/40 S&W/45 ACP/380 ACP, are deer-capable

Why stick to pistol caliber weapons?

I've wondered that too. It might have to do with keeping things simple for the warranty. Having some interchangeability of parts with 4 pistol calibers would be easier than branching out into completely different designs. Same with making a .22 hipoint, the fuckhuge slide used on the pistols might be too much for the round to cycle.

the difference between the K900 and an Acura NSX is that the NSX was a no frills supercar that lived up to the performance standards of a supercar, but the K900 is a luxury car that although offering luxury, js competing against the big name Beemers and ad mercedes that have the branding that rich people recognize.

Kia could sell high end cars for high end prices, but it would take them either 30 years of marketing or some phenomenal break though in performance or luxury that no one else has.

>>
>>29421219
Well for one, killing them slowly or messily ruins the meat. Nothing should go to waste when you kill an animal.
Second, its more humane than penning them their entire life and frying them alive when the time comes.
>>

>>
>>29417900
There's actually a legitimate reason for the K900 to exist, but not much of a reason to sell them in the US. The car's whole point is to provide a domestic option for rich Koreans.

>>29421549

>>
>>29416348
Their supply chain, processes and expertise were all from the auto parts industry. Zinc and cheap steel.
>>
>>29420386
The gun relies on mass for the zinc slide to not blow up in your hand. I wouldn't want anything that reduces that mass.
>>
>>29421180
For that much why not just buy a Corvette and not have to deal with the dogshit weight distribution?
>>
They could always market a better quality gun under a different brand name.

Tweak the original design and make it out of good steel. Casting steel can't me that much harder than casting pot metal.

You morons need to get your perspective straight.

This man created a weapon that will probably kill more niggers in the US than any other.

Its unreliable, so if you have a white mans gun, youll probably be fine.

A note on its unreliability to eject brass, usually caused by lower grain carts.

>Tom Deeb, owner and CEO of Hi-Point Firearms was dead in his home earlier today. Friends close to the family stated that he is believed to have died of zinc poisoning, but are awaiting results of an autopsy.
>Mr Deebs was known for profiting from the deaths of minorities as his cheap military grade assault carbines and easily concealable handguns proliferated impoverished areas.
>Jared Forger, of the Texas Pot Metal Association stated that he and Mr had become close friends over years of working together. Mr Forger said that Mr Deebs was directly responsible for saving several Zinc, Lead, and Tin mines in Texas. Forger said that Deebs had a knack for finding the cheapest sources of materials to manufacture his products, "hell, I remember one time Tom and I were fishing and and he caught a catfish, he was going to keep it and I told him to throw it back because the catfish was a bottom feeder and we were right downstream from mine runoff and the fish likely had heavy metals contamination, Tom just looked at me and said, "Oh really?" and put the catfish in his bucket, a few months later he bought a dredge and went to work digging up that part of the river, that was the same year his company started producing the C-9".
>Condolences were pouring into the Deebs home from all over the firearms industry, from such notables as Tim Kelgren, who claimed that "now that Deebs is gone I guess Im the new defacto king of shitty gun makers". Gaston Glock, the creator of the ubiquitous Glock handgun, stated now that deebs is gone he expects Deebs company to be shuttered and sales of his own "problem solvers" to increase. "Its a good thing for us because we need the revenue to offset the cost of buying former Glock customers prosthetic hands".
>Condolences also came in from outside the firearms industry, with Al Sharpton reacting to the news of Deebs passing with just one word, "Sheeeeeiit".
>>
>>29423583
>Deebs will be laid to rest Wednesday, where in accordance with his will, he will be placed in a Tin and Copper alloy casket and smelted down to be made into one of his own firearms. "Ive got a Magneseum hip implant and 2 artificial aluminum knees, Id hate to see that valuable metal go to waste" he stated several years ago.
