Hey i'd like to support the e111 petition, but i'm in the us, can i just bullshit info and sign it for you guys? part of the reason i'm hesitant to move to canada (love the area and industry) is because of these crazy gun laws, is it really as bad as most people paint it?

Even used ones are nearly double the price of a new Type 97.
>>29404895
Buy it. I've never seen one go up for sale, and that's a pretty decent price for an optic that might as well not exist in Canada.
>>
>>29405956
You can sign from out of the country I think.
The laws aren't great, but they are (IMO) better than NY or Cali. Magazine capacity limits, some models are prohibited, no chance of full auto or CCW, handguns require registration and are range toys only. It's certainly nowhere near as good as somewhere like Alaska, Vermont, or Arizona, but it's much better than the UK, Australia or France. If you have questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them.
>Heres a list of guns you won't get however
http://www.canlii.org/en/ca/laws/regu/sor-98-462/latest/sor-98-462.html
>>29405922
They aren't that bad. The trigger isn't outstanding, but that's true for all bullpups. Most people use the flat top upper and the upgraded lower so both that and the iron sights issues are solved. Reliability issues are primarily present in lemons and none other.
>>
>>29405922
Have you ever used the 97? The only thing correct in your post is the magwell.
>>
>>29406053
The one I own has a sear problem causing it to double tap and then FTE. It rips casings in half too.
I don't feel that it's even that durable, wouldn't want to drop it. If the chinks go to war with this thing they'll be so fucked.
I like that it's an NR scary salt weapon that takes AR mags but that's really all it has going for it.

Anyone have experience with antique guns?
I've been checking them out because they seem really fun and aren't as annoying to get as normal guns. I'm dirt poor and going to uni next year so the fact that I can save the $250 I'd spend on a PAL also looks promising.
Anyone have some advice on them?
>>
>>29407690
Don't bother, the few that are legal to own without a PAL are expensive. Flintlock and matchlock rifles would be the extent of what you would be able to reasonably afford.
>>
>>29407471
Typical North American hunting regulations state that if using a semi-automatic or pump-action firearm, you must restrict your firearm's capacity to 2+1.

The easiest way to do this on a firearm that uses detachable magazines is to not use a magazine at all. That way, you're now limited to 0+1. Some fudds find this more "fun," believe it or not.
>>
>>29407690
>250$ on a PAL

....how? I paid 30$ for an online hunters safety course, and did the exam for maybe 40$, and however much it cost to send the thing into the RCMP.

>quick google search later

Sucks to live in Ontario.
>>
>>29407954
Damn, just googled around and you're right. Quite a few antique revolvers but most ate in the thousands, with a few mystery/unknown single shot pistols and smooth bore rifles in the 500 range. Guess I'm better off waiting till I'm in the position to afford a PAL and a regular gun.
>>
>>29408181
You can't do the CFSC online.
>>29408185
PAL and SKS is roughly $500-600
>>
>>29408181
>online hunters course
I'll check this out. The gun store in my city is 200 plus tax for the PAL course and then they tack on some bullshit fees, although I've heard there's a way to circumvent their extra fees. I think they're for materials you can just print off yourself, haven't looked into it too much.

>>
>>29408253
Can't challenge the test anymore either. You have to take the full test now, as of C-42 coming into effect.
>>

As of June 2015, the CFSC exam can't be challenged. Courses are mandatory. And I mean the actual CFSC, not some hunting course.

The only international hunting regulation I am aware of that limits your capacity to 3 rounds is when hunting migratory birds. In that case they want to you to put a dowel in the tube of your shotgun to restrict it's capacity to 3.

My girlfriends dad just passed away. She's originally from Indiana and he had a few guns that she wants to bring back to Canada with her. I know they've got to go through an FFL, but one of them is a Chinese SKS with (obviously) an unpinned magazine. I've been told that once a magazine is disassembled it is technically "parts" and not a prohibited device. Is this true? I can pin the magazine for her here in Canada, which would obviously save some money - if it can't be brought across, how do we go about getting it pinned?
>>
>>29414574
Gray area, RCMP would definitely try to charge you, though you could fight it.

It's also not worth bringing a gun that cheap back, the import fees will be more than the gun is worth, but I can understand if it's for sentimental reasons.

Your safest bet is to pin the mag down there, or remove the mag and buy a new one in Canada.

There is also a 99% chance you'll do just fine with your original idea to bring the mag back separately
>>
>>29414574
>I've been told that once a magazine is disassembled it is technically "parts" and not a prohibited device. Is this true?
First I've heard of it. To stay on the safe side, I would have it pinned down in the States before trying to import it. Or buy a new mag in Canada, like the other anon said, which would save you a lot of hassle at the cost of being, well, more costly than having the old mag pinned.
>>
>>29414574
Easiest way to do it would be to contact an importation company like irunguns and see what they'd charge you to bring it across and pin the mag for you. It usually doesn't cost that much more in than you'd be paying in fees anyways, and they do all the work.
>>
>>29414450

>>29415528
