I want a single shot 12 gauge for my bushcraft/bug out kit. What is a good lightweight one?
If you don't mind used, there's the old Cooey 84 (or Winchester 370/37A). For new, Yildiz makes the TK-12. It folds up pretty nicely, and is light. On the other hand, it's light to the point where I'm not sure I'd like shooting it (under 5 lbs). Could you make due with a 20 gauge instead?

I would prefer a 12 gauge because I will also have a 12 gauge to ___ Short Lane conversion kit. I was thinking of buying the Winchester 101 Over/Under but it has an auto eject feature for the shells and I don't know how that would effect the Short Lane.

The Short lane has a little gap for where the ejector sits- just position the gap properly, and the ejector won't pop it out. I have the somewhat similar X-Caliber set, and I got it to work in my Mossberg 500 that way (You have to pop out one of the extractors in that case, however).

While not as available anymore, Baikal made an excellent single shot for under $600. Without getting into trap singles, it was one of the better singles available new and you occasionally still find new, old stock.
On the cheaper end, you have Rossi and H&R for the most part. There are others but availability varies, and they are usually rebranded Turkish guns (Yildiz and Huglo). Both Rossi and H&R are shit, but H&R is generally less terrible.
Another option is used, which varies too much from gun to gun to give general advice.
A new clays single is going to start at $1200 or so.

So I could go with an Over/Under?
I picked up a single shot made by Baikal for $80 at a pawn shop. Its one of the funnest guns I have. Its light and I chopped it down to 18.5 inches. Putting high brass in it is one of the funniest things on a range trip. If I ever find another one that cheap I'll make a mad max like single shot pistol from it.

Yes, I think it can work.

why not just get a bottombitch 590 or benelli nova?
literally gonna be in the same price range (+-$50) and also double as a SD bush gun.
+ benelli nova shoots all available loads for 12 ga, ranging from aguila minislugs to 3.5 high brass

I also have one of these. Breaks down into a backpack easily.
I also added a barrel adapter kit from self reliance outfitters for 12GA>20GA>.410>22LR so I can use scrounged ammo and a 12GA>45 ACP rifled adapter for shits and giggles

$1200 describes moving into a low end clays gun, something that may be wasted on you.

They originally could be ordered with a variety of features, including extra barrels and adjustable stocks. Get back to me when your seventeen constables clear you to buy a box of shells and a choke tube.
