Enlisting in the Army.
What MOS for mad bucks after I'm out?
What MOS for best experience while in?
Aced the ASVAB last time I was processing through, so no worries about what I can get into.
Security clearance could be a problem.
>>
>>29386254
>Security clearance could be a problem.
Well that just about disqualifies you from any possible MOS's that you could expect as answers for your two questions.
>>
>>29386254
Why is security clearance a problem?
>>
>>29386264
Yea. Assumed as much. Would like to get opinions, though. Assume it's not an issue.

Otherwise:

Because despite what these cowards say, 99% of them didn't join so the military has worker bees to keep the cogs moving out of some sort of patriotism or sense of duty.

Medevac not withstanding, Aircrew in general is a "hard" MOS; even in garrison there's a chance we won't go home that day when we go fly.

Aviation is the only combat oriented MOS in the army who does their full job every day, deployed or not.

nothing wrong with being a POG. I just have little respect for anyone who didn't at least do their first few years as combat arms (infantry, tanker, cavalry, medic, artillery, etc)

Honestly I wish I had become a POG after my 3 years, but I decided to just get out.

they literally are completely useless I cant name a single data marine who knows his job. >>

pogue and pog are interchangeable at this point, the english language is dynamic, they said pogue in the 70's and 80's but it has changed to POG because americans almost always change a word with french/proper english ties because their lazy and dont like adding extra letters, thats why we call it armor and color instead of armour and colour
>>
>>29386898

>joining the military to be a POG
why not just "support" the military by helping the economy. Where do you draw the line of support? Just go to fucking college instead of being the "intelligent" military guy who gets paid practically nothing and wastes 4 years of his life for an experience of slavery.

Only an idiot would chose to be a slave to help logistics. Yes, logistics is important but you are just a cheap labor. Go help out in a different way.

Don't be naive. Everyone here knows you tell civilians you are military. When you tell some girl at the bar this you know what they "think" you do. I bet you don't tell them you're just some kid who sits in an AC building on some small city sized airbase far away from danger doing monotonous work that can be done by anyone else. Disingenuous faggot. This is the big problem with POGs. Whats with the chip on the shoulder. Do you really think working as a mechanic makes you somehow more intelligent than other MOS in the military. Why do POGs act as if they have some doctorate level knowledge that allows them, the "smart" ones, to perform their job when they are just bitches who got cold feet.
>>

>>
>>29391039
You're assuming too much, I never said anyone who joins as a mechanic is more smart than anyone in a combat role, just that other MOS's exist for a reason, that reason being that combat roles wouldn't exist without them in a modern military. Personally, because I know I don't speak for everyone else. I want them to realize what they are. Useful to the military but not spartan warriors. Cut the whole i'm just like you shit when its not the case. They technically fill a more important roll but its not combat oriented. I also don't see aviation, tankers, etc. as the same as a mechanic. I realize the risk they take. Nor do I see myself or my old unit as proficient as some Rangers or their unit. I know my job is easy to train anybody in as long as they have social skills and aren't completely incompetent.

Military is full of idealistic young men wanting to act macho.

The truth is that foreign policy is very heavily influenced by economic interests...the economic interests of large corporations that don't give a fuck about you or America but they give millions to congress and politician's reelection campaigns.

The army is at the disposal of a bunch of fat, balding short men in their 60s with pacemakers and short cocks banging young interns in viagra fuelled orgies. All of whom probably never even shot a gun or got into a fist fight.

They send you out there and risk your life so you can replace one dictator with another so that big corporations with offshore accounts in tax haven can get better contracts exploiting their ressources.

Honor...sacrifice...valor

Concepts that are totally alien to the female mind.

You might impress and earn the respect of fellow men with an infantry job but women will only feign interest without truly caring about what you do.

You could get your leg blown off trying to save your fellow squad members or getting third degree burns running into a foreign orphanage saving babies, or even get the medal of honor by taking on hordes of enemy combatants overrunning your outpost...

but none of it matters to women.

What matters to women is that, today, she saw the local TV weatherman in the lineup at the grocery store with his wife, and on the phone with her sister, she goes on and on about how she can't believe that a man like him could have married an overweight woman like her...etc

i am a POG. My first deployment was the initial push in 03 as water purification, spent 13 months performing water purification, convoy security, guarding the perimeter and a variety of other jobs. although i did not have a combat mos i still saw combat. my 2nd deployment i was supply and i was in charge of security of a retrograde yard and in charge of the shipping and demil process of military equipment. i saw ABSOLUTELY no action on the 2nd deployment. Funny thing is, most of the 101 i came across hadnt seen any either. in fact an nco from the 101 told me a cute story olabout his plt leader toss a flash out his mrap to try to claim he got attacked so he could earn a CIB. i legitimately earned my CAB. We worked closely with some SF teams in afghanistan getting them equipment when they werent able to order more through their normal supply chains. Now i dont have any grandiose belief that my 2nd deployment was glorious but when those SF teams came back and told my soldiers how the gear my soldiers provided directly impacted their mission and ultimately created a successful mission and correlated to lives saved, my soldiers felt GREAT. The military is a giant machine with many moving parts and we are all a part of that machine. i personally have never hidden or run from combat and at times i hate the MOS's that i hold, but i am still competent enough to know and understand that it takes all the MOS's to sustain warfare.

I had known a few tangos and uniforms who didn't have them, but they joined back in 05-06. I think once MH-60L and CH-47F came out it was altered that new enlisted required secrets. I know Sierra's and anything that had to do with OH-58's were required to have secrets, but them shits got phased out.
>>
>>29393112
We have a couple tangos that don't have clearances, I think one joined in '12, and we're working on mikes, so I dunno man.

You're going to become a douchebag with ego that cannot be backed up by competence. Then a PFC is going to make you suffer if you ever need a needle stick. You will get food poisoning with alarming frequency.

Go ROTC or just go straight to a commission once you have a degree. Academyfags are toxic.

Super smart decision. Sign up for the Navy. You'll get to wear the slick Navy white officer's uniform and remain on shore during your entire term of service.

Did you know officers maintain their rank until the day they die? They just retire. They don't give up their titles. If you leave the service as a Captain, you will always be a Captain.

>all this hate for POGs
>very little help answering OPs initial question
good job /k/

Op, if you want an enlisted MOS to make money after the army, do something like a mechanic or radar operator. Anything S-2 can pay off to, but nothing is a guarantee. Basically if you want a job after, then you have to learn a valuable skill and get a degree while you are in, even if its an online degree.

If you go officer, then the logistics branches will make you money. I am an 88A, and with my degree I am looking at 100k/year jobs in supply chain management when I get out.

Also, the infantry is cool and all, and they can wave their dicks around like we see in this thread, but in the real army you don't catch much shit for being a POG. Believe it or not if you act normal and understand that the warfighter is the main goal, then people will respect you. If you can outshoot and out PT them then that helps too

>line medic
>implying you can join as a "line medic"
Enjoy doing the most fucking high speed and coolest AIT's besides infantry, like real life calladooty and college all rolled into one, and then spending your service obligation filling out paperwork at sick call.

You join as a 68W. Some get maroon berets, fall out of planes, shoot pew pews, and get combat deployments. Most get barracks life, checking vitals, dealing with PFC's chasing PT profiles and medical discharges, and when they do deploy end up in Qatar at an Air Force hospital.
You will literally go from a training environment calling cadences about falling out of the sky into the jaws of Hell itself, carrying people on your back, loading stryker ambulances with "wounded" soldiers, doing IV's and learning all kinds of high speed medical shit to giving flu vaccinations and checking blood pressure.

O' hail-oh, o' hail-oh, o' hail-oh 68 whiskey! I think I tripped and sprained my knee! It really hurts to do PT! Permanent profile for me!

the tanker mos, 19k, is going through a major downsizing right now, so your chances are slim. Talk to your retention nco about an inter-branch transfer. if youre within 2 years of your ets date, good fucking luck. Your best bet at that point is to just finish your current contract, wait your 90 days, then enlist army via a recruiter.

I dont know if this thread is still alive, but

I know this guy who was supposedly a medic back during the OIF/Desert Storm days and he retired as a captain after doing his 20 and SUPPOSEDLY doing all kinds of operator shit as a medic even though "I wasn't special forces, I just was embedded with those guys"...Anyways

I have no familiarity with the military or how it works and I haven't taken the ASVAB yet but he said if he wrote me a letter of recommendation that I could "get in as an E-4". Is this true, or is that only for them college boys?

Fuck that guy.
You're enlisting not applying for a scholarship.
First, find which MOS you consider not to be useless.
2nd, find the required ASVAB score for said MOS
3rd, take ASVAB and pass with the score you need
Finally choose MOS

It's that simple anon.

Not him but I chose a POG job because it's the best I felt I could do. I qualified by doing pretty well on the ASVAB and went to a technical school.

Sure, like all young men I had GI Joe fantasies about saving the day with bravery and valor. I could have tried to be combat arms but I know, deep down, I'm not cut out for combat. Don't see any shame in recognizing that and doing what I could to support the mission behind the scenes.
>>
Are you using this as a segway into a specialized field or is this an sense of adventure and excitement?

There is nothing wrong with either. but its really your decision. with kids who have a pathway to college taken care of by mom and dad the excitement mentality is a strong motivator(Mom an Pop cant buy you the excitement of being in contact).

If you want a specialized job after the military take a specialized job while in the military.

Setting yourself up for your time after the military is also very important. Now when you are in regardless of your job you will get money each year for Tuition assistance, use that shit to help offset the 3 years of MGIB.

With all the shit talking going on between combat and non combat roles, just remember that every one has a place in the military. If you want to pull triggers on an objective you aren't going to do that if you are in a hangar turning a wrench and vice versa.

I am an 11B and its the only job that I could ever want, but I know that's not the case for everyone.
