guns are one thing in this world which you actually can't waste money on

it's like exchanging money for a new kind of money

gun shaped money that can shoot bullets
>>
$500 on a fucking AMD63.

Shoulda bought a 7.62x39 upper and bolt for one of my AR receivers. Or just spent that money on 9mm or .223 ammo. Fuck this dumb gun. I have no idea what people see in the AK platform.
>>
400 on an SKS
200 on a Styer M95
400 on a No.4 Mk 1* (maybe)
>>

Almost as much as I wasted on pony merch.

I bought a chiappa little badger 22, it seemed like a cool backpack gun but now it seems like a bit of a waste. .22 doesn't seem too useful for hunting.
I'm kicking myself because I found a Baikal MP18 for $125 a week after but my gun fund is empty til April from the little badger.
>>
>>29386089
In 2011 I bought a Century Arms Bulgarian AK74 for $650 at a gun show.

It keyholed every shot, shot a 3ft group at 50 meters, the bolt cover would fly off while I was firing, and it died after I put 2000 rounds through it.
The rails the bolt moved on warped and the bolt wouldn't close when I chambered a round.

All AKs are ugly. Putting a different hand guard on it won't make it a better gun. The gun is junk. Being "ugly" does not make the gun good-or-bad.

Retired military and I work program management and special projects for a company that does a lot of RPA SOC and GCS support.

That being said, I didn't go out last weekend and buy $100k worth of stuff...that's an accumulation of ~25 years of collecting. (Most in the last 8years though).
>>
I wasted 600% on a Savage10fpc and about 650% on a CIA Tantal.

>>
>>29389362
Proofreading is important.

I've spent about 8 grand on things that aren't a waste.
>>
>>29385998

I bought some Korean high cap mags for my glock 21 despite almost everyone saying they were garbage and failed to work.

Found out they are in fact garbage and failed beyond my wildest expectations. Like about every single round rails to feed. They fail more often then they work, by a wide margin.

I think those were 20 a piece so two for 40.

I also bought a single point sling adapter for my 590A1 figuring since it had the same stock as an AR it would work out. failed to realize that the attachment point was different for the stock on receiver so the mount ended up digging into the web of my hand when gripping the gun.

Think that was like $25

So all in all only about 60-70$ of shit that I consider a waste.

First post, best post.

I'm perfectly happy with almost every gun related purchase so far. It's what I didn't buy that haunts me.
>>
>>29390566
the war upper is nice, but unless you're autistic about your ejection pattens like giddyfuck, stick with adjustable gas block

I never thought much of the coated bcg. it's not that hard to clean a regular bcg

I'd rather buy several bolts and replace the regular bolt as needed. They still last for like 20k rounds

the g2s is nice, the ssa is nicer, the ssa-e might be too light for most people

seekins aint all that hot. look at odinworks, pws, bcm, kac, and Daniel defense for keymod

60 degree selectors are something i tried and found incredibly weird. it's not that hard to switch the selector 90 degrees and feels more tactile. Also, I'm a left and find ambi selectors unecessary. I don't know why righties want ambi selectors

again, as a lefty, never had issues hitting bolt catch or mag release.

you barely use the foward assist why dump money in it

h3 will be too heavy for a 14.5 mid gas

OFFSET IRONS ARE GAY

Meprolight red dots have no batteries and aren't adjustable for brightness. A red dot you can't adjust the brightness on is stupid, buy an aimpoint pro

Without nightvision, ir lasers are useless, and visible is dumb. You're pricing is also wayu off

MAGNIFIERS ARE THE GAYEST INVENTION EVER, ESPECIALLY WITH THE SPECTACULARLY CRAP REDDOT YOU PIICKED.

Folding stocks adapters are also gay.

dump the dumb shit like the folding stock, the lmt both, and the WAR upper and put it into the foreend, the trigger, and your optics.

i'll probably get the 90 degree selector in that case.

>h3 will be too heavy for a 14.5 mid gas

odd i was told to go h3 if i was going to suppress.

the RDS does have batteries and adjustments from when i tested it.

i agree on the laser though, i was thinking if i did nighttime hunting it'd be helpful since the RDS has a horrible night vision mode.

>>29390786
that's a magnifier not a redot. the meprolight is the red dot.

>>

>>
>>29390848
the things I caps locked are the ones im the most passionate about especially since you want a red dot, no reason to do offset irons. I know giddy did a war upper and a slr adjustable gas block, but I'm of the opinion one or the other is fine. you'll never completely eliminate gas blow back, and its not like you're shooting full auto. Wear some eyepro and it wont bother you at all, i guarantee it. Also, aimpoint pro. much better option than the mepro, even if it doesn't look as cool. Fuck, for the money you're saving by dropping some dumbstuff, you could get an aimpoint comp m4 or a low magnification acog. I'm really looking at a 3x acog for my rifle right now.

as someone who's used a ta31 (4x acog) before pretty extensively, even at 25 meters its not that slow. consider your typical shooting distance and style, but generally speaking, low magnification optic > red dot.
>>
>>29390979
alright. i'll take off the offset and magnifier. can i still use regular magpul irons or would it be pointless?

Just yesterday I looked up all my credit card statements for the past year to see how much I spent on guns and ammo.

>$5700 guns
>$1800 ammo
So that's $625 a month

I calculated this in order to see how painful a $280 car payment, $68 for insurance and $75 for parking would hurt if I ceased to buy guns for a while.

I'm pretty well stocked up on firearms(all of my needs are covered as well as quite a few of my wants). Should I not buy anymore for a few years and get a pristine Toyota Tacoma like pic related?

I don't know which cowitness height the meprolight (if you're set on it or already have it) is mounted for, but flip ups should work and you should be able to use them with the optic still on the rifle. If not, the meprolight should have arms levers in the mount for quick detach.

MBUS pros are pretty good, but a umsc kac rearsight off of eBay is an amazing rear sight at half the retail price. Plus it's dank "stolen valor" meme in /arg/, so you'd get internet points for using it.

>>
>>29391244
>$120
>for a KAC micro rear usmc
Look again nigger. $60-$70
For the front, just stick with the MBUS pro front

As for the gas block, it depends. Ask sigbro and godofmaur in arg. But what muar says is "war upper for quick adjustment, SLR gas block for fine tuning. But that sounds silly, becuase you aren't always on and off with your suppressor. I'd stay with an adjustable gas block and skip the war upper, but ask someone who actually runs suppressors all the time.
I wasn't impressed by the noise reduction, not enough to pay $1500 for a can, tax stamp, and mods to my rifle.
>>
>>29390979
An ACOG feels fast at across the room distances. The only complaint I have is that the reticle blurs slightly as it's difficult to get right behind the sight as your moving the muzzle. All the red dots I've used had the same issue sans the Eotech.

People who cry about it don't have experience with a good 4x imo.
>>
>>29391318
i'll hold off on the suppressor stuff. is a cyptic bolt still worth getting for the ease of cleaning up. i figured an Anderson upper with its nano non lube shit would make it even more slick, or am i looking at it the wrong way? is the nickel boron by itself which is cheaper than their mystic line capable of the same shit?

>>
>>29391343
The cryptic stuff IS easier to clean and it is pretty. This is your rifle and your putting money into it. So if something is functional and looks good, don't let anon stop you because it's expensive.

As for the can stuff, go to arg and ask around. Sigbro and godofmaur know their suppressors. But I'd advise finding someone IRL with cans and shooting a suppressed ar15. What state are you in?
>>
I probably spent around10K a year since 2012. I've only spent like 200 bucks in gun related stuff this year though.

My reply disappeared.
Cryptic cleans good and looks pretty. And it's a good BCG underneath the coating too. There's nothing wrong with spending a little extra money for that look, and easier cleaning would be handy with a suppressor.
Just ask some /arg/ tripfags about suppressor stuff and try to handle one irl before jumping up and buying all the stuff to run one. Also, all the suppressor mods for ar15s only make cans more pleasant and easier to shoot. Socom used to run cans on m4a1 basic bitches. It wasn't pleasant, but it worked.

>>29391608
I think you're spending less money for a rifle you will still greatly enjoy.
One thing you haven't considered is a weaponlight. If you want to do nighttime shooting or use this rifle in an HD scenario, a 200+ lumen flashlight is essential. It's cheaper than nods+ir laser and more flexible in variable light conditions.

This surefire g2x tactical is $60, and the vtac mount is $20, but the surefire m600 scout and the scout mini are the current /arg/ favorites.
>>
>>29391753

Just bought a Ford F250 OBS 7.3 powerstroke shortbed extended cab with 100K miles on it, 4x4. It should last another 400K or so. Paid about 8500 for it. Used for light farm work.

It has a 4.10 rear end, manual transmission, and can pull pretty much anything I want and is a 4x4.

Going to upgrade to about 350 horsepower and straight pipes.

While I respect the Yota's, a nice 7.3 powerstroke or a 5.9 12 valve Cummins in a Ford body is just more awesome and looks better.

>pic related, not mine, but very close

The only way you can waste money on guns is by buying shitty guns. Firearms tend to appreciate in value at a pretty nice rate.

If you bought 5 nuggets when they were $80, you'd have a $600 profit if you sold them today.

>>
I consider both my 10/22's a waste, since I can never find enough ammo to shoot them and I overpaid on one of them.
>>
>>29385998
Waste is subjective and objective...

If you have regrets, then maybe it was a waste, but having a gun and ammo and tools to maintain it even if you lived a life of peace and never had to use it in defense or use it to hunt to survive, I still say it not a waste as it is a useful tool that you never had to use or use often. I have a garage full of tools from carpentry to plumbing, masonry and electrician tools...my house is in tip top shape...should I throw out all my tools and say it was a waste now that I don't need them?

but I think if you buy a gun that's popular by professionals or in popular culture or thought was cool on paper scientifically and tactically but when you bought took it home and then to the range you didn't like it, then that's a waste

You either never use the gun and it collects dust and rust or you end up selling it.

I know I will get flak for this, but I started out like many /k/ommando's with slav shit surplus Mosin's Makarovs, SKS and later an AK, but I was never really a good shot with them and they were heavy and I kept on trying to justify them as being just as good as any other gun and depend my life on it, but then I picked up an AR-15 and my life changed, it was a rifle that was light weight, sights I could pick up quickly and focus on and it was modular and just all around a better shooter so I sold all my milsurp and bought a couple of BCM lowers and uppers and then later a 1911 and say what you will but I can shoot better with .45 and Novak sights on a 1911 better than the mak.

So, knowing what I know now, I should have never bought slav shit as I ended up selling them and the ammo to buy more 5.56x45 and AR accessories.

This.

I hate to be an AR fag, but with my double vision, I could not shoot an AKM without closing one eye, but with AR-15 peep sights I can keep both eyes open and aim without too much vertigo.
