9mm offers a higher round count per magazine, faster and more accurate follow-up shots, less perceived recoil, cheaper, and pretty similar physical bullet characteristics to the .40 S&W. Literally no reason to own a .40

I think you mean Springfield XDS. I used to carry an XDS 45 when I was living in the states. It was a terrific little firearm.
Any reliable 9mm double stack with a decent trigger. Biggest you can conceal, g26 being the smallest I would suggest.

Are you a manlet? Since its a single stack it doesnt bulge out in a good IWB holster, only problem is bending over but the grip doesn't stick out too much if you're quick about it.

Carry a shield in a suit at work. Carry a Hi-power when it's cold out. Carry a sphinx sdp compact or Lionheart lh9 compact when it's warm out.
Really need to thank /k/ for recommending the last two. They've been great so far.
Don't overlook the SCCY in 9mm. Holds 10. Not big, but not small as a LCP. Have not regretted it.

It's highly recommended that you don't carry a naked gun tucked in, aka Mexican carry. The DeSantis should be more than sufficient, but some recommendations I've heard from Shield users include AlienGear, Crossbreed, and Stealthgear.

It distributes the gun across your belt-line instead of in one spot with a single-clip holster, and helps draw it closer to the body too.
Sauce: Glock 26, used to carry in a single-clip leather holster and now carry in a Galco King Tuk.
I can forget I'm even wearing the King Tuk sometimes.

You'll probably go through three or four holsters until you find one you like a lot. I know I for one have a drawer filled with old holsters that I didn't much care for. One thing I've learned, don't skimp on holsters and don't waste your money on cheap ones.
The KingTuk was probably the best $65 I've spent in a very long time.
Who knows though, you might luck out and really end up liking the single-clip soft holsters.

Great advice, personally I've settled on the single clip iwb style as my favorite because I can easily take it off and put it on throughout the day.
"DeSantis insider" is the best, simplest most comfortable holster ever.
"insider" not "inside heat" or any other.
It's fairly cheap too. I carry just forward of 3 o'clock, but behind appendix... Like 2:30 carry.
