no opinion myself but from what I gather, while his convoy was stopped waiting for the road ahead to be cleared by coalition forces, he put his vehicle in neutral and threw his manuel brake up. When fire started, he tried to get out of the killzone but forgot the car was in neutral and brake'd so when the car didn't move, he assumed it was disabled. He then leaves his vehicle and the guys inside it to fight from a ditch. In the AAR he blames his squad incompetence for what happens and later, kind of as an afterthought, mentions he had left the car on neutral and brake'd so he was also a bit to blame
keep in mind this is the guy who calls himself the leading expert on firefight tactics and mindset and that he has "never lost a fight"

Cars are not bullet proof. Bullets will happily travel through shitty 3mm think sheet metal if you're lucky, if not they'll bounce around and fragment everywhere. From what I saw of that video he was a) sensible enough (please understand that pains me to say) to actually swap the concealment of the car, for some sort of cover, while just about everyone else milled around the killzone and b) not actually the only one to go running for the ditch by the looks of things.

What IS wrong is idling a manual transmission vehicle with the parking brake on when you might need to leave in a hurry. Like, you know, if you were in an area known for being ambushed. I drive for a living and I don't do that shit in America.
It's also wrong to bail from your vehicle after you kill it because you forgot how to drive stick. Not because your vehicle is more important than you are or some shit, but because you are part of a team and your job is to DRIVE and people in that vehicle are betting their lives on you driving when you're supposed to. As opposed to killing the vehicle then battlirng while they're taking fire, fucking over the entire convoy.
Sure, get the fuck out of the kill zone. So it in the vehicle you are inside of, because other lives depends on you not dismounting.

To be fair, and I'm not defending Yeager in any way, they ALL fucked up. The commander fucked up by operating a low profile motorcade like a high profile one, they fucked up by gapping themselves from the crowd, they fucked up by sitting there forever, they fucked up by waiting on the lead vehicle to start moving, their choice of arms was fucked up, everything was fucked up.
But that's why the company hired Yeager, and people like him, inexperienced, possibly poor record, no combat mil or high threat LE experience. They were the wrong people, with the wrong tools for the job. The reason YEAGER gets all the hate is because unlike his teamies, the dude gets on youtube, disables comments when they get too low, talks about allll the people he's killed and allll the high risk situations he's been in, and says his way is the only way and if you wanna challenge him you're a moron.

If you actually knew what you were talking and read the after action report, you'd know that part of those casualties were from the initial bursts of fire from the enemy. The enemy used PKMs with AP rounds which defeated the armor of the cars. Had they used RPKs or AKs, the fire probably wouldn't have been as effective. The contractors probably weren't expecting this.

Well shit, I'm working on short time, I didn't pick up on that distinction since the report said all 3 vics had damage AND casualties. Even so, that reinforces what other people were saying earlier about using a vic as cover if it's armored. For up-amored humvees, it is taught to turn into the gunfire to present the engine block to the enemy. Ultimately, what I keep trying to say is those casualties occurred during the initial bursts of gunfire. They didn't occur from just sitting there with their thumbs up their asses as some people would assert. The whole thing was just a shit show.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The ditch meme is only a half meme, if it even works like that lol. I blame Yeager for not doing his job, for being inexperienced and unprepared to keep his whits when the shit popped off. I do not blame Yeager for, in his moment of believing the vehicle was disabled, abandoning it and seeking hard cover. I DO blame Yeager for moving to cover at the median, in line with his OWN vehicle, unable to provide fire support, and making no attempt to move or communicate, achieving a better vantage point on the enemy. You see his legs once he reaches his hard point, he stays there, long, unable to shoot back. He just sits, until everything has died down, and then comes over to console dying Jay and help get dead Chris out of the driver seat. And then he likely shot a couple non combatants lol.
Them sitting there, DID cause this event, in the FIRST place. They operated the low profile motorcade as if it was high profile, which means all the vehicles are armored and your primary concern is going to be explosives. In situations like this, it's not bad to segregate yourself from the crowd, keep distance from potential VBIEDs. However because there were unarmored vehicles, segregating themselves from the pack, shooting warnings at people that got too close, and just sitting there exposed and open, is what led to them being targetted.
Not much could have been done to prevent the initial volley casualties, what was done was over in a few seconds, but they could have prevented it long before by not exposing themselves and staying static in such an exposed way for so long.
James is a fuckup, however his BIGGEST fuckup was coming onto youtube and braying like a fucking cunt about his exploits, when, all he did was fuck up.
