Or has this come to pass?
>>
Still a shortage where I am. Walmart and most LGS's are perpetually OOS.
>>
i dont know. i gave up on looking for it a long time ago.
>>
Only real easy way to find it is on the internet. Gets bought up at local stores too easy. Never seen it at any Walmart I've been to, only occasionally see it at Cabela's or Gander Mountain, never seen it at any of the pawn shops I've been to.
>>
Yep. Still a shortage here.
>>
>>29371618

It's definitely back if you know where to look. My local LGS has gotten a couple bricks of Winchester and the big box franchise store has gotten Federal, Winchester, and Remington bricks.

Does this mean I shouldn't buy a .22 rifle as my first gun?
>>
>>29371618
it's fairly easy to find online for 8-12 cpr
>>
>>29371777
Even at its highest price in the last year, .22 is still about 1/2 the price of even the cheapest center fire caliber.
>>
>>29371777
Get a .30 instead.
>>
>>29371618
Northern Mass. here. No problem finding .22LR. As much as I want.

The shortage is due to manufacturers deliberately keeping supply short to morons think the happening is finally here and buy up as much as the factories can make.
>>
>>29371618
there's only a shortage at the cost you're willing to pay
you can order all you want at 10 cents/ round and up
http://www.gunbot.net/ammo/rimfire/22lr/
>>
>>29371777
No it means stock up when you find it.
>>
>>29371820
what are the prices?
>>
>>29371820
there's production limits that the factories can produce otherwise they get taxed a fuck load. It's easier to stay within those limits and charge more than pay out the ass on the taxes.
There's the same amount of 22 going around as ever before, bunkerfuckers need to stop hording it up
>>
>>29371777
Correct. I'd suggest .223/5.56 instead. Mainly because you can find it and the cartridges allow you to shoot pretty similarly to a .308.
>>
Driving down I-5 in northern California I saw a sign that said "PREPPERS: WE HAVE A LARGE STOCK OF .22 - NEXT EXIT"
>>
>>29371853
Usually close to 20 cents per round.

Pricey, but so is everything in Mass. Don't live here if you can't afford to.

OP here, actually in Mass. for school. Second I graduate, going back south of the Mason-Dixon Line
>>
Columbia SC checking in. No shortages, no restrictions. Only place that's always out is Walmart.
>>
>>29371618
>south carolina
Nope. We have Palmetto Armory and Cabelas, and .22 is everywhere.
.22 mag isn't even hard to find.
>>
>>29371944
>>29371927 here. You a Columbiafag too?
>>
>>29371618
some areas yes, some no.
in my area there is not a single round of .22 ammo to be found anywhere. from wal mart to big box sporting good stores to gun stores.
it can be found online, so technically no shortage.
>>
>>29371899
20 c/r for .22LR? is that a typo or is all ammo that overpriced in that hellhole?
>>
>>29372054
Literally everything is overpriced in Mass, not just ammo.

When my friends from other parts of the country say "X costs a dollar" I translate that in my head as "X costs a buck-fifty".

We have one of the highest costs of living in the US, but that's all offset by some of the highest wages as well.

Like >>29371899 said, you don't buy a Ferrari if you can't afford to put gas in it.
>>
>>29372116
yeah but feeding a .22lr gun isn't usually compared to owning a ferrari. more like owning a motor scooter.
>>
The Dick's near me sells bricks of remshit for $10, limited 1 per customer, but they've never not had it.
>>
>>29371899
Southcoast MA here, the last brick I bought was approximately 7cpr.
>>
>>29372173
That's a good price. I'm in the Merrimack Valley. I do what everyone else around here does: has a friend in New Hampshire buy for them.
>>
>>29372142
FA AK in Somalia, $25. FA AK in the US, $25k. Different markets, different supply, different demand.

Clemson/Greenville.
I'm up in Columbia often though, gfs parents live in Blythwood.
>>
>>29372157
A brick is 500 rounds, not 50, you millenial faggot.
>>
>>29372214
Aaah, should have guessed when you said Cabella's.
>>
>>29372229
Sorry, I amlways assumed the plastic boxes with 100 rounds were called bricks.
>>
>>29371618
South Florida: no shortage
Big boxes are charging 25 dollarydoos per 350 rounds which is bullshit, but gun shops are still trying to kike 10cpr .22lr.

I shoot 3-500 rounds from my old stock each time I bumpfire my 10-22TD out innawoods
>>
>>29371777
get a .22 pellet gun. plenty of that ammo in stock.
>>
>>29372197
off to somalia i go!
>>
>>29371618
its not hard to get but its not every where. its also not down to the price it should be and bulk is never on sale. so shortage? no, but i've seen a 50 box of sub 22 sell for more than a box of 9mm in the last month so all still isnt good either.
>>
>>29373399
Where the fuck do you live? I'm sitting on 5k rounds (go through a brick every two weeks, and stock back up to 5 after that,) and can get it at any time.
>>
>>29371618
Have not seen 22lr in Walmart for 5 years here in Southern California.
Right before Odipshit got elected, the going rate was like $20-25 for 100rnd CCI minimag brick.
Now it's $10 for 100. Nearly the same price as god damn 9mm.

I snatched up a 1,400 round jug when I could, $99 on Black Friday.

I just wanna shoot my 22's..
>>
sometime last year, i saw 22 cci on the shelf at walmart. whats funny is i didnt even notice it until someone else pointed it out. i actually stopped looking for it. it was also the last time i ever saw 22 there.
theres a field and stream store nearby that gets regular 22 in but its full blown retail
>>
>>29373692
Where the fuck do you live? I live in eastern WA and nobody has bricks, just 12+ cpr boxes of 50.
>>
>>29373718
Got relected*

It's funny, 2 years ago my stepdad gave me a few 100rnd CCI minimag boxes with the price tag of 99ยข still on them.

Made me so sad
>>
>>29371618
There is literally no reason to horde this round. I have just over 5k and am not buying anymore anytime soon. Im trying to get my 556 up to 5k.

There's still a shortage but I can see the prices dropping a bit as of lately.

A month ago in my bass pro, I actually saw federal automatch stocked for 6cpr. I couldn't believe my eyes because I live in Miami where it's literally out of stock or overpriced when I see it.

I don't own a single .22lr gun so I didn't bother buying it to leave it to someone who actually has one.
>>
>>29373748
I'm >>29371927, Columbia SC. Average price here is between 6-7cpr, minimags going for 9-10.
>>
>>29373787
I've driven up to Spokane and into Idaho and it's about the same there as it is here in the Tri Cities.
>>
>>29373692
Charleston SC
like i said, its not hard to get but 5 outta 5 walmarts wont have that shit at 5pm on a sunday like they would have in 2011. dicks, field and steam always have it at the lowest available price (~20$ for 325 fed white and black box, 30 for rem 555 green box). psa (in store), other local shops and the internet always seem to have it at a higher price.

honestly if i shoot 22 its only ever really subs through my bolt gun and stopped buying bulk a while ago. but congrats on your 5k rounds i guess. i have ten boxes of allot shit, other people have 10 boxes of better shit. but you only have 10 boxes of 22.
>>
>>29374056
Why are so many people in this thread from SC?
>>
last time I picked some up was some shit thunderbolts for 6 cpr at bass pro earlier this year.

They aren't abundant, but I wouldn't say they're still in shortage. Now, if only those new plants that ATK and Winchester promised would open soon.

So has this become the new "autism"?
>>
>>29371618
Califorians still treat the news of 22lr being in stock like a gold rush call.
>>
>>29371777
Honestly just get a 5.56 flavor AR.

Or a 9mm carbine.
>>
>>29372142
I'm trying to insult .22lr or rimfire fans, but in the past generation, .22lr guns were meant to be a step up from a bb gun for children and young adults and was almost considered a toy gun.

Then again, this was back in the 1950's and 1960's when boy scouts shot full sized sprinfield rifles in 30-06 for sunday sports instead of faggot bow and arrow archery that even some of today's parrents think is too hardcore.
