I've been considering buying an AK for a while, and I don't really know where to start.

You choose the caliber (7.62, 5.45, 5.56).
Then you state your budget.
Then you purchase the best available AK that fits your earlier choices.

Get a AMD 63 if your budget is super low.
They are $500 at classic
>>

$600 - 675
and pretty much any caliber besides 5.56
>>

DDI will probably be your best bet for the money.

>and I don't really know where to start.
As with all gun purchases, buy once cry once is the best way to go.
If you desire the nice ak-74 features and folder stocks, just save up till you can afford an arsenal. If that's not a big deal, than you can be far less picky and stay within the budget you stated with ease.
>>
>>29369210
How is it?

choose the caliber first.
>no 5.56
which leaves 5.45 and x39 (im excluding 308 and other calibers for the sake of clarity).
they both ahve their pros and cons, look up prices and reviews and see which one you want to shoot. this will narrow your search
>>
>>29369267
I bought it online and it's still shipping. I'll post about it in /akg/. If you're interested just lurk those threads

OP here, I was leaning toward a WASR-10, but I'm open to any other recommendations at this time.

I will say Wasr 10. I have a Wasr gp10 and she hasn't failed me. Though I did pour a lot of work because the guy I got it from it looked like a abortion with tapco and shit.

Will say best way to decide is to have your hands on it and if they let you break it down. Make sure the front isn't canted to much. Bore is nice and not shot , bolt is fine and not to bruised and if you really can put a mag in and look for mag wobble. Other than that it's just caliber , 7.62x39 or 5.45.

Not OP here, but I'm seeing 5.56 mentioned a lot. Are there still decent 5.56 AKs being manufactured? I know Arsenal doesn't sell them anymore, and I couldn't turn up anything esle besides a shitty Zastava.
>>
I also have a question:
In my country I can get an Izmash 556 for 700€ and an Arsenal M1 for 900€.
Is Arsenal of higher quality and, if so, worth the additional 200€?
>>
>>29374684
Arsenal is Slightly better, but from a functional standpoint there's no difference

Where are you in the eu where you can buy aks?
>>
>>29374684
Izmash and Arsenal are pretty much equal in terms of quality. Because Arsenal has a bunch of tooling for milled recievers, they tend to make a bunch of milled guns over stamped. The Arsenal M1 being one of them.

You really can't go wrong with any of them.
>>
>>29374722
Germany. I mean semi auto AKs are just normal semi autos. You can buy them in all countries except for a few like Britain.

http://www.waffenschumacher.com/
https://www.arms24.com/Waffen/Buechsen
Just as a few online examples. They usually also export to other EU countries if that was the reason you wanted to know.
>>29374758
I think I will go with the Izhmash then.

Apparently definitive arms makes pretty good shit, I don't know if they still make them or not. There's some other smaller +$1,000 ak companies I forgot the names of that may have what you're looking for.

If anything, just try to find an slr106 off the EE on arfcom if you really want a 5.56 ak.

Not that well versed in 5.56x45 ak's but I'm pretty sure this the CR. To my knowledge, the 106CR's specifically have reliability issues and other issues with them. Anectdotal evidence but Chimps our resident autist here said his 106CR was his most hated ak and was glad when he finally got rid of it.

Don't take my word for it and do some research on your part. If you want, there's a bunch of norinco 84s's floating around gunbroker but they're pretty spendy.

Did it myself , type G stock from apex with hand guard and I soaked it in acetone , sand , bleach , then stain with minwax cherry stain that was mixed with red ritdye and half a small bottle of iodine. Finished with tung oil which took a week to cure.

Pain in the ass but I love it and it held up to hot summers and snowy winters.older pic.

Buy a Saiga if you can find one. Best quality, made by Izhmash and doesn't require a bullet button (for now). And when you move buy a $130 conversion kit and you have a non neutered Russian AK of the highest quality you will find. Not to mention they are banned from importation now so it will only raise in value. Make Mikhail proud /k/omrade.

Avoid the RAS 47,

It's clean, it's tight, and it's accurate, and it's super affordable.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem very uncommon for the internals to have basically no quality control with the heat treating, and will basically fall apart after a few thousand rounds.

I am fortunate in that I own one that doesn't seem to have any of these problems (1600 or so rounds, minimal wear) but I see enough people with problems that I suggest avoiding it.

I'd buy another one probably because of how accurate and nice mine has been, but hey, do as I say, not as I do.
>>
>>29376227
"It's clean, it's tight, and it's accurate, and it's super affordable."

I should have put in to context that I describe it like this to explain why it would seem so appealing in a shop, cosmetically, and even functionally (for a while) it'll be brilliant.

Then it turns in to a box of chalk run over but a tank roughly
