Hey guys, I built my AR last year. After damaging a receiver trying to put a barrel nut on, I figured I should buy another upper receiver and have a reputable gunsmith do it.
After reading great reviews for "Firearms Service Center" I took my pieces up there to get get it finally built.
After that, I shot it, it shot fine. Jammed on some steel ammo, ate through some brass ammo.
Then I didn't do anything with it for 8 months.
I took it back out, and it started low gassing. Not fully expelling the spent round before the first one wanted to go back in.
I off my handguard, and my gasblock was off, and pic related was what I saw. The "I'm da AR guy I built dem in da army" guy at the range said this was likely the problem. But I haven't shot it since realigning it with some calipers and specs.
The big issue I have is. I got to looking at my gun, and my handguard is damaged. The way it fits onto the barrel nut is warped and some teeth are chipped on that same handguard. Which is a $180 one from midwest industries.
Should I go up to the service center and ask them to do something about this? It has been 8 months and I've put a 200 rounds through the gun since. But damage to my handguard is unacceptable to me. Along with, there were a lot of marks on the bottom of the gas block where it looks like they realigned the block quite a few times.
What do, other than shoot my gun soon to make sure that gas problem is gone?

I figured just seeing what they'd say is logical. But, I agree I waited too fucking long. I hadn't had the money to take it out, and the initial wait to actually look at the fucking gun probably proves I'm a stupid sob.
Otherwise, I personally really didn't like how the Midwest Industries barrel nut bolted on, is there any 15 inch free float guard I could look at with a more secure torque transfer? I think that was one of the main reasons they fucked up.
I don't really like the multi-rail edgy look though. This rail is the best looking to me, I just don't like the barrel nut.

i just used the krylon camo spray paint u can get at home depot and cut out some shapes from an old pizza box for the paint job. it definitely doesnt hold up that well, but i like the flaking paint job look on an AR

I torqued it down too hard between blocks of wood in a vice. Which twisted the receiver and cracked it.
It was a $50 upper receiver from Anderson, I was upset with myself for being bad. But it was the only part that I fucked up with my initial install, pretty good percentage rating compared to all the other bad luck I have.

The builder claimed they mainly use Anderson or Aero Precision uppers in their builds.
It may be worth noting the lower I built myself is a Spikes Tactical and it also has no forge marks.

both ar's are straight pull, the benelli is obviously semi, waiting for my extension for it.
strangely i think the upper is considered the firearm. barrels are regulated and a few other parts like bolt but other than that, most things are easily brought.

Only suggestion I'd make is a different rail. The Gen 2 MI rails have a lousy mounting method and are kind of weak in general.
I'd suggest something like the Geissele Mk8, if you absolutely need to upgrade something.

Well thanks for that. For whatever reason someone told me I should get a BCM bolt, but I didn't see any real benefit to it if the PSA was up to spec. And so far, I really like the SSKMR, but if I ever upgrade, I'll keep the geiselle in mind. The only upgrade I've been tossing around is a new trigger group. The big ones I would recommend in PA are Gates of Fire in April, Rag in June. I can't make it to Rag this year because of my Reserves schedule, and Badon Hill in September.
We also try to make it down to Winter War, which is a lot closer to your locale I think.
All the other events I'm looking at on my units list are either Ohio or Indianna.
Oh, and Seige of Azure Castle is a new event, but it's at a paintball park with a castle and village and shit, so it's looking super promising. It is also in April.

Yea.
The test consists of dropping hk mag fresh out of freezer three time on its feed lip from 4 feet and thats actually always lick more than 4 feet because i had hold steel tape measure to extremely rough concrete i hold the lowest point of magazine above 4 feet by inch to account possible angle error. Unlike another tester i saw they hold highest point of mag at measurement this is wrong.
So. The frozen hk mag survived drop from 4 feet high fully loaded with fed val pak 55gr fmj slamming its feeding lips into ground three time fast as i could take few photo after each drop.
Then i went on to 6 feet drop for three time. The mag was not fully warm/thraw before this 6 feet drop test it isnt frozen but cold.
Throughout those testing if it spit out round i documented it and then reload the mag to full capacity for next drop. Throughout the test the mag only spit out maximum amount of two rounds and sometime only one and few time no round was spit out.
For next document photo dump the file name will say which test it is whenever its 4ft frozen drop or cold 6ft drop.
The file name will include number after word "drop" which say the number of drop photo is documenting. The lower case roman numeral is the number of photo after the drop.
The visible round outside of the magazine is very round that mag spit out if theres only one meaning for the drop mag only spit out that amount.
