First you need the get your foid, then spend about $300 for 16 hours of training but since you're a gay I assume you can cover 8 of those with your time in the navy. Then spend another $150 for the license and wait up 90- 120 days with no objections from the state or spend another $30 or so to get yourself finger printed for a 30-90 day waiting period. Also note that if you do get an objection from law enforcement it'll be another 30 day wait and then send to a subcommittee hell that is backed up.
And then remember to not enter the 29 prohibited areas!
Oh and save up another $150 every 5 years for a new license plus whatever the costs are to take the renewal class.
Handguns are regulated by the state here so no need to worry about high capacity bans! (Kind of, some places still have them on the books and the laws haven't been challenged) And while there's no stand your ground laws on the books we have one per say because of higher court rulings.

The peace and freedom candidate for the state insurance commissioner (or whatever the office is called, the one who oversees this stuff) had some sort of thing along the lines of 'kill the insurance company executives'.
