anyone on /k/ own one and have modified it? sure would love to put a collapsible stock on it or any optic but it doesnt look like it lends itself easily to either.

Uhh... no, it only takes one vertical foregrip to make it an NFA item.

Putting a stock on any pistol or rifle with a barrel length under 16" makes it an SBR, an NFA item. Or if you put a vertical foregrip on it, that makes it an AOW, an NFA item as well. Illegal without ATF approval, registration, and a $200 tax stamp.

That's not a wire stock, that's the buffer tube. It functions as an extension of the receiver. The bolt flies back inside of that thing when the gun fires and an internal buffer and spring push it back into battery,

nfa stamp really does not matter i am qualified within a trust, so if i do something to sbr the tec-9 i will sell the gun to the trust, etc. i didnt know about the stock though, thanks i have to sell another gun i have.

i am not asking about legality of the weapon. i was just curious if anyone else here has done things to their tec-9?
i am not interested in altering the function of the gun, but i would like to change the form of it. if that means it becomes a classIII then it can be dealt with.

Underfolder AKs are not classified as pistols. A rifle is always a rifle, it can never not be a rifle even if you permanently remove the stock and weld up the holes used to mount one.
Pistols can be made into a rifle by attaching a stock, but can become a pistol again by removing the stock.
The AR you posted for instance is a pistol, yes, because it has no stock. Attach a stock however and it becomes a rifle.

add 16+" barrel, then stock. Now it's a rifle. Take away stock, then put the short barrel back on or leave the long one for shits and giggles. Now it's a pistol again. Changing them back and forth is fine, but if the short barrel is on with a stock it becomes a super scary 2cool4school SBR, oh no, oh shit, oh fuck.
