I am the kind of person who agonizes on choosing his firearms. Battle rifle/DMR? Love the .308 it's devastating, even in low capacity compared to it's intermediate friends (average 20rd mags vs 30rd mags), universially available ammo, but weight of ammo and rifle would not lend easy to long hauls and fatigue would set in (for the average joe).

AKs? 7.62x39 offerings offer a great punch but fmj will ice pick, and SST doesn't have the same barrier punching abilities as it's fmj counterpart, also heavier than 5.56 to carry in a loadout. Not to mention that while it is accurate enough, there is something to be said for the more accurate AR-15, and while AK-74s are a thing I've never been particularly interested. Not to mention that the AK suffers when it comes to being as modular as other offerings.

AR-15? More modular, lighter weight, less recoil than others, accurate, but for some reason 5.56 doesn't inspire confidence especially against barriers or in brush where 7.62x39 or .308 would normally not have as many problems.

Help me out /k/. My rifle's purpose would be camping and SHTF, range fun and riding along in the car, my environment is 100 miles within the DFW, Texas area so it could be light forests, to cities in SHTF (which is a pipedream I realize but I don't count it out)

Tell me what DMR is supposed to mean.

Be advised, I'm ready to laugh my ass off at and correct you because I think I know what you mean.

The only reason I put DMR and Battle rifle in the same category is because my concerns are the same, but if I have to define DMR, it's the squad level rifleman's rifle that can reach out further than normal engagement distance if need be. The caliber isn't necessarily .308 (some are 5.55) but personally I perfer them in .308. Correct me if I'm wrong.

OK, then I will not be snarky.

I was an 0311 that played in sand. I assume by DMR you meant Designated Rifleman? Yes?

It's a theory. Never utilized. We all carry the same gear. If GI Joe spots a dude, he wants the kill so he's gonna shoot.

I scored higher than the other Marines in my squad on the rifle range. I told them I was the DM. They didn't care. Just like you don't care.

It's assuming shit is like a preplanned mission like a Rainbow Six game. In reality.

>fuck! I'm getting shot at
>shoot over there!
>>
>>29357671
I get that now. Good point. Regardless though, I still agonize over my choices.

fuck maybe i should put that pic on my dust cover

>ak or ar
You know what I'd look into? A vz58, they just came in stock at czechpoint again too. It's a very light and comfortable rifle that shoots 762x39 so it's capable of being very fun too compared to 556.
It's a pretty accurate(if you are buying wolf and other bottom of the barrel ammo, you better not blame the gun for accuracy issues because you did it to yourself) and very comfortable gun, and almost toy light feeling if you slap 10rd mags in it then carry stripper clips with you.
I could innawoods with that rifle indefinitely, and the folder stock makes it very small for a vehicle gun. The folder also swings out as you raise the rifle, so it's actually handy unlike typical ak folders that you have to baby from start to finish.
>>
>>29358031
I've fired a vz 58 before and it wasn't very comfortable desu.
>>
>>29358650
Folder or fixed stock? Because don't judge it by the wire folder.
The fixed stock is comfy as hell.
>>
>>29358729
that's very true. I did only fire the folder, but you were talking about the folder as well.

Get a 16" ar15 with a 1-4 or 1-6x variable optic. Load it with 77 or 75g pills for distance or social work and blast away with the cheap stuff for fun.
>>
>>29360616
That's what I'm pretty much thinking of doing at this point.
>>
>>29357441
I looked at various different rifles for about a year until a few months back I bought a SLR-107FR on a whim. Couldn't be happier. Buy a quality gun, get good mags and spend the rest on ammo/training.
>>
>>29360966
nice dubs. What made you go with the SLR-107fr?

I'm starting to believe that the rifle only matters as much as you use it.

>Not owning an AR15

Start acting like an autist and going in mental circles weighing the pros and cons of each option and imagining scenarios for each AFTER you get an AR.
>>
>>29357671
We use DMRs in the army, usually one guy in the squad carries an M14 or the like.
>>
>>29361257

Well Marines dont.

I thought after a million posts from Armydogs you guys carry the same shit we do.

I'm going to need this verified from an 11 Bravo.
>>
AR15 is easily the correct choice, especially if you're an American. they should issue one to each man when they reach 18
>>
>>29361329
My colleague was an 11b at Lewis in a striker unit. I've seen pics of his squad and one dude had an older style M14.

Post pics, or have the 11B tell me.

Or I'm calling BS.
>>
>>29361063
Nothing in particular, was drunk and saw it for a good price, knew it'd do what I need well, rest is history. Reliable, accurate enough, common ammo and cheap surp mags. Pretty sure it was all together $850 after shipping and the transfer fee.

>>29361473
Kek I'm an AD soldier with no reason to troll some marine on a South African cubit zirconia forum.

>former Marine

It's possible... You're an entirely different branch and I've been out 5 years now.

I just thought our SOP's were the same more or less.

I just want proofs because I've been on /k/ longer than 1 minute, so I know guys lie.
>>
>>29361547
>I know guys lie
And you're one of them. Once a marine, always a marine.
>>
>>29361571

Nope.

What am I lying about?
>>
>>29361599
>>29361571
He's a child and thinks because you called yourself a "former" marine you're not one. He doesnt know we just dont say "ex-Marine". You're arguing with 16 year olds dude.
>>
>>29357671
I've heard pretty serious criticism of the misuse of the DM at the squad and platoon level and the outright abuse of the DM and the sniper at the CO and Bat level in conventional infantry units.

The push I'm hearing of ATM is to shift DMs into weapons platoon to get them away from the 03dumbdumb envelope officers like to stuff everyone that leaves the wire in.
>>
>>29361662

Well, shit. Now that makes sense.

Like this underaged post right here >>29361689.

I'm gonna sleep or get on Netflix and let the mallninjas figure this shit out.
