For daily carry though you're totally fucked. Most "less lethal" devices are memes to give people who think guns are scary a false sense of security. Tazers are reasonably effective though, if you get an actual one and not a tiny hand-held one where you need to be close enough to get your throat slit to use it.

Legally I don't think there's anything on buying a crossbow, but practically speaking they're not a great idea.
Being struck with an arrow produces nowhere near the amount of immediate trauma of being hit with a bullet, so while you can fatally wound someone with one, there's a pretty good chance of them fucking your shit up first.

DV convictions are special as not all DV convictions are felonies.
as others have said, it is possible to have your civil rights restored, each state has a process for it, but the onus is on you to start that process and see it through to the end.
otherwise your options as a DV convict (assuming it wasn't a felony conviction) are black powder, antiques, knives, or clubs, or just hands and fists. in some areas (NYC for example) you also are banned from using tear gas, pepper spray, mace, stun guns, and tasers.
if you also have a restraining order (doubt it, but possible as they are filed automatically in some jurisdictions) then your options narrow a little as restraining orders can include language forbidding "criminal tools" which can include knives, box cutters, and things like that.
